Help for a San Franciscan in Battery City Park

Walked by the Merchants River House on my way back after dinner. What a wonderful walk you have...and with some adorable canines, too!

Andy, I was too stuffed from Taim lunch to order pizza but I had a luscious farro & braised lamb soup, wonderful broth, & a tri colore salad. I'm often critical of salads but this was a classic bitter greens Italian, with some citrus & Gorgonzola. Didn't think I'd go for the cheese but it rounded it out beautifully. Maybe a pizza lunch break this weekend with a friend!

ZeeEats & Ttrockwood: ate at Taim today & loved it plus the flavors & freshness of ingredients. Falafels could lead to addiction problems, so I'm actually grateful to leave them behind. As a lover of picante, I found the spicy sauce delightful, but not all that spicy...but it didn't matter. Thanks!

I'm booked with friends until Sunday, with a course all day Sat/Sun but Sunday evening would be great for trying one of those. Spent weeks in Laos years ago & the good was similar to bu different from Thai - brighter, I'd say. Or maybe it was just newer. Whatever...I'll try, report & thank you for the suggestions.

Andy, thanks for the greeting. I'm actually staying at the Conrad so a walk to TriBeCa could easily be in order...plus, I see the weather's good.

Your suggestion about a water walk is perfect. It's part of my day here & I'd miss it.

So...Inatteso for pizza could be a perfect dinner tomorrow after the red eye tonight. And I was thinking about a food truck lunch after I checked in.

But I will be heading uptown to Neue Gallerie - very different neighborhood. Any thoughts?

Whoops! Thanks for the correction..it's BPC, of course.

Mission Chinese I know very well...eat there often in SF & it's terrific, just the kind of food I'm looking for. I am solo this trip - hubby's working - but don't mind eating alone as long as I'm not sitting in the bathroom. Bar seating is also fine. I'm actually leaving on the red eye tonight so reservations could be tough...altho I'm willing to eat dinner early & call it lunch.

Budget is around $50 for food. Just looked at Jungsik menu & it looks great - really love those flavors - if a little pricey. Fortunately, I won't be taking any food back to my room so wouldn't order too much. Momofuku is also on my list. I see they're several; what's the difference?

And thanks!

Hi. I'm staying in Battery City Park for a few days to attend a course & celebrate my 65th. Looking for good reasonably priced restos within walking distance. Adventurous eater, love strong vibrant flavors & authentic ethnic & would also love some thin crust pizza, good ingredients, not overly cheesy. Sea cucumber is the only food I won't eat! Many thanks!

Cannelloni in SF, North/East Bay?

Thanks, everyone. The craving's let up a bit. My next move is to try Gold Mirror & hope the bechamel sauce isn't too gloppy, but silken. I'll report but am still open to suggestions, especially with the feel of autumn in the air.

I didn't even realize Capp's Corner was still around...fantastic! Last ate at L'Osteria del Forno a few years ago with a friend from the Vaucluse. We both enjoyed it so the crespelle are also on the list.

Cannelloni in SF, North/East Bay?

I have a craving for some great meat (veal, beef) cannelloni with a light bechamel plus tomato sauce. I'll even settle for carry out. Any suggestions?

Best Lil' Porkhouse: Openings San Francisco Bay Area

Absolutely fabulous. I'm posting this against my best interests, knowing the wait time will be even longer but they deserve the rave. My husband & I grew up with St Louis barbecue & this tops the original due to the great quality of the meat - grass fed & sustainable - perfect for us, plus having great flavor. Perfectly smoked pare ribs, brisket & pulled pork. Sauces have flavor in addition to heat & are served on the side the proper way as condiments, rather than overtaking the stars of the show . Sides of coke slaw & potato salad were fine but I never get barbecue got the sides. They make inhouse two traditional St Louis favorites...garlic bread with "provel" cheese & the classic gooey butter cake for dessert. Not exactly low calorie, but satisfyingly good. Can't wait for my next fix!

Huarache Loco Larkspur

One can only hope! It's been a relative wasteland for too long. Now, if only more good Asian restaurants would move in...maybe there's an appreciative public for them. My husband and I are both looking forward to the Porkhouse one evening this week. As 'cue natives, we'll be rigorous but hopefully happy judges.

What's up with Pizzaria Picco-- Larkspur

We've been ordering from Pizzaria Pico for over four years. The pizza was terrific for many years but the pizza has been more than underwhelming the last three times...so I finally had to write. Crust is overkneaded...tastes like white bread, without the characteristic sourness it used to have. Also, unfortunately, it's tough. And finally, the tomato sauce, formerly truly tomatoey, is now tasteless. Enough. We're through. Better ways to spend $35 for pizza.

Hog Island Oyster Farm **OR** Tomales Bay Oyster Co?

Another vote here for HI..oysters, clams and mussels are always great with usually more oyster varieties than TB. Weekends are crazy, unless you get there very early...a good idea since they can run out of product. Did I read they now have valet parking? What's the world coming to!!!

As for Drakes Bay...love the people and their fight to continue their aquaculture...but although scenic, the drive is longer and the dirt road can be in really lousy shape.

We're all Marinites with less and less exposure to fun new places in SF. All cuisines are fine, reservations essential and mid range in price - $20-22 per entree. Nothing too precious, please, just solidly good.
Thanks in advance...
