Angelique cafe? main and 9th......

ok when i moved here to downtown i would have neve thought what great selection of food and place there would be. but i have found the best this time.

Its a nice cute 100 year old building on the corner of spring and main off of 9th

Angelique cafe<<

amazing place.

I oreder the following: Croque Monsieur ( which was ham and cheese with a Special sauce)

this was very very good. not your normal ham and cheese. it was on soft fresh toasted cheese bread with the fluffy toast just perfect with a slice of cheese on top of the sadnsich.

it also came with a abundance of french fries, golde crisp! and a tasty fresh salad with some reallly really good mustard dressing.

over all i was impressed with the whole thing from begining to end.

i have benn to alot to places but this is a huge favorite.

yeah i tried it for lunch, its cool. but def not a place i would crave. upscale bland food. i also had the csr salad, but i did not find it so great. i will have to try the meatloaf to see, it is one of my favorite things to eat. i like to try atleast a couple times before i hate it or dislike it.

Clifton's

Clifton's is amazing. You have to try the turkey sandwich. fresh turkey right off the turkey brast, put on a roll with all the basic toppings for old school food. the slaw is the same as pantry and phillipes. the price is kinda high. but i do agree for being a cafeteria it is very cool inside. also there use to be another 1 but it seems like this one the only left. its a real gem in the middle of busy broadway.

California Chicken Café vs California Fresh Pizza

yeah i have had california fresh. i like the salads and the combo plates. as far as pizza it ok. but i really dont care who owns it. as long as it has "A" on the window. food is really good for being on spring and 6th. i also like this mariscos place on spring in between 6th and 8th.

Phillipe's Famous French Dip

ok, i have to give it up to them. i love the roast beef dip. and the tradional slaw. but its just too busy for me during lunch. I like going there around 3pm. empty and can enjoy my lunch. also the ice tea for 55 cents and lemonade for 65 cents is amazing. clam chowder is great too. but the pie is not made there. its made at a local bakery and is still a perfect peice to a great OLD School Meal.

Downtown LA new places

La bella cucina. great iatlian food. No crazy BS. just real good stuff. Try the Tricolore salad. pine nuts, gorgonzola cheese, and lettuce with, splash of virgin olive oil. everytime i thing of a tasty salad or pizza i think of here. Back in the VAlley i use to have cafe belissimo. and zachs in studio city. but after eating LA Bella Cucina. i noted that it was not traditional Italian food.

Attention LA old-timers... Is it Paul's Kitchen I'm thinking of? (divey Chinese)

Paul's is great. I have had the food. the meal is good, but in a rough part of downtown. it has its own parking. The food is great, just a little too much MSG. I now its bad, but it taste so damn good. if you have been you will be back. but i do worn u, the MSG might slow down your day a bit. Tommy lasorda eats it and most of the former dodgers.

Cuba Central - New Cuban in Little Tokyo ????

Wow this place is amazing, it blows Versalle away. I really like the nice Cuban pork sandwich. I tried it on monday for lunch. I have the roasted pork and ham. It was a little greasy but, thats what cuban food is about. The plantains are not saugy. Perfect nice and real. for a side dish i had a tamalle. It was suprisingly good, even though i did not know that cuban food had tamalle in menu.

My Score: 1-5 ( 5 best- 1 poor)

Downtown delivery

I am new as well, i live in the market lofts, right above the ralphs. I have eaten at local places, pantry and roys, qudoba and other stuff. but then one day at Ralphs i got a flyer for delivereee. it was weird it was like theymade this just for the city people. I noticed they deliver anything so, i put them to the test. I ordered Petes, and some groceries. It was sooo cool , I called placed an order and they actualy brought me petes. I love the blue cheese fries they are to die for. But petes is always crowded and no parking. plus i eat alone and dont know any one, so i tried it. it was fab.

I will be posting lots of my new favs on this blog. since i have no reall friends in the city yet.

Spring Street Smoke House

Great baby back ribs.... Luv the mild sauce. and i love the whole idea of the 2 sides for $2. I dont think it has anything i wont eat. a little far away from my Market loft, but i love to drive ther and eat it for dinner. I suggest getting a jar of BBQ sauce to go.

My score:
1-5 ( 5 best, 1 poor)

Service: 4

Price: 5 ( amazing for what i use to pay in the valley at brothers or USA in burbanck)

Notes: its a must if you live in downtown and want good BBQ. Dont get dissapointed its in china town. its 100% worth it.

La Bella Cucina - Anyone know this place?

yes, i have. I just moved to downtown La. I was trying all the places local to my market lofts. so i stumbled appon it next to LA LIVE and STaples center. I went in it was nice and modern. Staff greeted me and showed me to my table. I started off with a glass of white wine. Nice soft sweet but not to sharp. I was brought fresh baked bread. and olive oil and vinger provided. tasty.... Then i order the Tricolore salad. Amazing gorgonzola cheese.... hmmmm nice ridicchio, and nice portions of salad.. lite dressing no really Heavy dressing to kill the salad. Then for dinner i had the Speciale Pizza.. It was amazing. I have eaten my fare share of Pizza and this was good. It remided me of NY style pizza. I dont know what it was but I had a feeling it was the cheese. I think it was Grande. Very strechy cheese, perfect not too much sauce. artichoke, olives, and the most perfect sundried tomatoes i have tasted in a while.

Overall i gave the place my final score:
1-5 Scale ( 5 best, 1 poor)

Service: 4
Menu:4
Taste:5
Presentation:3
Price: 4 (moderate not to expensive but not cheap and under a heat lamp)

Notes: I will probably try again on SAT, I really want to try the Linguine vongole

Over all a great place i would go back to again!
