The Shawarma Place, Davis Square, Somerville

Between Noor and Shawarma Place, any opinions on which would have better choices for a vegan?

Red Sauce in Camberville

Vinny's is a good recommendation.

There is also Pescatore in Ball Sq Somerville and Out of the Blue in Davis. Both of those lean toward seafood.

Lobster Rolls: 2013 Edition

I don't eat mayo either. Do you have suggestions of places where you can order your lobster roll w/out mayo?

January 2013 Openings and Closings

Looks like OM in Harvard Square has shut its doors - I had a Gilt City voucher and tonight was the last night to use it. They were no longer on Open Table to make res. Called and keep getting voicemail saying the person I was trying to reach was on the phone. Walked over since I work in Hvd Sq and the door was open but the place is a mess. All the downstairs barstools and couches are gone and a ladder propped up in the middle of the floor. Called out but no one answered. The website is still up w/ no indication. Glad to have the refund from Gilt rather than go!

Osushi on Winthrop in Harvard Sq appears open. The stand up sign outside the restaurant says "Now serving lunch and dinner". But inside it looked like a couple of workers getting ready to open, no patrons and clean but barren looking.

Also not opening or closing news but passed Red House and they have sign saying 2 oysters for $1 from 3p-6p.

Pizza Dough

Agree with the TJ's wet dough. Any others I've tried have resulted in superior crust.

Just so you know, if you are looking for a beer or cocktail with your lunch, don't go to Bartley's as they only serve soft drinks.

Question About Wang's Vegetarian Dumplings

Wang's in Somerville has both Spinach and Leek dumplings and if I remember correctly, one of them has tofu and one does not. Can anyone tell me which has it?

Thanks!

Al Dente, Santarpio's or Regina???????????

I also agree with this. Regina's then Modern. (I've only been to Santapio's once and did not get all the love for that pizza at all.)

October 2011 Openings and Closings

In Harvard Square where most recently the short lived Congo was, there are paper signs up saying a Sushi/Wine Bar is coming soon. There is no activity going on inside the space that I can tell.

Adrian's Truro?

There is no longer any review by "Mark". Makes me wonder if Mark removed it or the Yelp people did -- there was a story that Yelp helped those that paid them and hurt those that didn't.

great meal at Bondir

Small Plates:

Is that Coeur de Boeuf vegetarian or is it actually some type of beef?

Would a pescatarian have many options on the menu?

Thanks for your review.

Dave's Pasta In Davis Square, Somerville; What IS My Problem??

I have been a long time fan of Dave's and the pasta and also a long time fan of Bella. At Dave's I've liked the porchini mushroom ravioli and the squash ones. There have been special ones too that I liked as well. Don't overcook - no more than 6 min in already boiling water. I also get sheets of Dave's pasta for when I do lasagna and don't pre-cook them at all -- just treat them like no-boil noodles. The whole wheat pasta and my veggie lasagnas go great together -- I kid you not!

Other items I pick up at Dave's when I am in are wine and bread and cheese. I have also gotten crab/crackers/produce. Definetely certain items can be expensive. Dave is a really nice guy and is always friendly when I see him in the store, taking time to recommend wines or whatever.

At Bella I tend to go for the shaped pasta, ziti or fusilli, or some other. I also get their frozen pumpkin ravioli now and again. I love that they are open on Sunday morning.

Birthday Dinner for a Larger Group?

Bistro du Midi on Boylston St in Boston has a private room the perfect size for 10. I ate there once when they first opened during restaurant week and I thought it was pretty good food-wise, but it did not blow me away either (but they did just open, and it was RW). There was a group in that private room and it looked very nice and they seemed to be throughly enjoying themselves.

Food Network Food Feud Woodman's vs. Farnham's - Filming Final Decision Today in Ipswich

This is from an email my husband got from Woodman's (personally, we are Farnham's fans but can't go anyway since have to work):

***Food Networks Food Feud - Woodman's vs. Farnham's***

The Food Network looks for loyal fans to show support to their favorite fried clam spot.
The Food Network team rolled into Essex today [7/13] to film a show highlighting fried clams in Essex culminating in a “fried clam showdown” between Woodman’s and Farnham’s, two longstanding Essex food establishments and friendly rivals. The filming of the final decision is taking place from 1:00-5:00 on Wednesday July, 14th and fans are needed for the filming. So we need all Woodman’s die hards to come by Steep Hill Beach in Ipswich [the beach down the hill from the Crane's estate] and show your support to your favorite clam shack and vocalize your allegiance - Bring your signage, wear your shirts and get ready to cheer – you just might end up on national TV! The show is scheduled to be aired in early Fall 2010.

* Host: The Food Network

* Location: Steep Hill Beach, Argilla Rd. Ipswich MA
(If it rains join us under the tent at Woodman's)

* When: July 14, 2010

Please support Woodman's of Essex in the battle of the best fried clam! The Food Network will be announcing whose clams are the best...Woodman's or Farnhams. If you can make it, bring a sign or poster with you showing your support for Woodman's, (like they do on the morning shows in NY) you might make it on National TV!!

Bergamot: yes, yes, yes. The Market (Gloucester): no, thanks

Bergamot had very tasty food, but I thought the portions were teeny tiny for the price. I went w/ a couple of girlfriends and none of us eat huge portions but we all had to order our own app and entree to have enough to feel that we had a satisfying meal out.

Went to The Market in Gloucester last night and I thought it was wonderful. We brought a bottle of white wine and they opened/poured, put it on ice and refilled throughout the meal. The menu is small and changes nightly. Last night they had one pasta/veg meal, shortribs (husband got) & seafood stew (I got -- really delishious). They had a seared tuna starter and someone sitting near me asked to order it as an entree and they happily obliged. It looked really good. Staff is super nice and the service was great. I don't consider $10 too much since the markup on the wine would be more than that at most places anyway. I still consider it a savings to bring my own and pay $10. (I even think the Causway in Gloucester charges corkage fee.)

Best Pizza on North Shore???

I had pizza at the new Giuseppe's this weekend and thougth it was very good. It would have been "really, really" good if it was not over cooked. The sauce flavor was not sweet, and it had a nice crust. They just barely opened -- don't even have their full menu yet -- and just that one overcharred pie is not enough to go on. Definetely will be trying it again soon.

I like Riverview in Ipswich and for Glosta we've been going to LaRosa but it usually is undercooked, especially when we get it on Thursday. If we get LaRosa on Friday it is better -- but by no means my favorite.

I like Flatbread in Amsbury and Bedford very much.

I also like the pizza at SOMA restaurant in Beverley but don't get there that much (have not been in the past 10 months).

The Clam Box, Woodman's or Farnham's - which one to choose?

Of the 3 you mention, Farnham's is closest to Salem and Clam Box is the furthest (if that makes any difference). Farnham's also offers more menu variety (grilled fish -- a wonderful grilled haddock sandwich, lobster, etc.) than Clam Box and that's the reason I like it best since I don't like fried foods.
