I'm amazed no one has mentioned Da Ciro, a neighborhood Italian (on Lex close to 34th Street) with many dishes , including pizza, cooked in the brick oven behind the bar. We go there at least twice a month and although pricey, we think of it as our personal favorite in the neighborhood. The baby chicken (cooked in the oven) is spectacular and many of the pastas are very good indeed.

Restaurant suggestions for Manhattan this weekend
Ciano near Gramercy Park has a wonderful atmosphere and the chicken (for two) is some of the best I've ever eaten. The app of polenta and meatballs is definitely worth trying and we had a terrific dessert but all I can remember about it is that it had lavender.

Markets/ food stores midtown east???
Two new Trader Toms are opening in areas already well served by other food stores including Whole Foods, Zabars, Fairway etc.--Upper West Side and Chelsea.
Why oh why is midtown east being ignored? Other than Todaro's we have nothing in the east 30s and 40s that would qualify as a first rate market of any size.
