Friendly (birthday celebration) takeover
I want to invite about 20-30 friends to meet me for a casual dinner and drinks to celebrate my birthday. I know some people will stroll in late, and because of the economy budgets are tight, so I didn't want a formal sit down dinner, or a set menu with a price per person. I was looking for good food- most entrees should be less than $20, and a great drink selection so those who don't want dinner can come a little later and join us for drinks. Music is also a must! I was looking at Golden Temple's E-room but it does not feel quite right. I need more atmosphere. I know I'm asking for a lot but any suggestions in the Boston/ Cambridge area would be really helpful. BTW- this is for a Tuesday night. Thanks so much for your help!!
Best Chinese outside of Chinatown?
Chef Changs in Brookline on Beacon St. I shouldn't even tell you b/c it's one of my best kept secrets (although it's quite large). Classic table side carving of peking duck, the spring rolls are paper thin (not that thick bubbly dough) with real fresh shrimp, the duck sauce is made in house, the General Gau's is in a light but very flavorful ginger sauce- not that mystery brown sauce... i could go on and on

Lexx in Lexington Ctr. is perfect, my family and I eat there at least twice a month. It's dress casual, quiet and welcoming, the food and service is consistantly good- it has a great bistro feel and a terrific wine list, Try it- you won't be disappointed.

I am doing a bachelorette evening for my best friend who is getting married, we LOVE Italian but her fiance does not! So I thought I ould treat her to a "last supper" so to speak in the North End, do any of the recommended restaurants in the neighboorhood also have an attractive waitstaff? We've allready been to the crappy places with the oerzealous waitstaff.
