Anniversary dinner for inlaws....near Nashua

Food, service and ambience are always top-notch at BVI. Just had an anniversary dinner there, and it was excellent.

What are your FAVORITE meals or dishes to enjoy when it's HOT outside?

Couple of steamed lobsters, a bag of Cape Cod chips, and nice cold Smuttynose.

Pls help me choose 1 stop for Cambodian in Lowell!?!

All the Cambodians I work with get take out from Red Rose.

Do French people drink foreign wines?

Do you remember that Gracie Allen/George Burns episode where they're in Paris and Gracie orders a California wine because George told her that imported wine was always better?

If you want diversity, visit Manchester NH. We have Nepali, Caribbean, Hungarian, Vietnamese, you name it. Just drove by a store called "Glory to God African Market" that could have been on a corner in Monrovia.

Hey jefpen2, can I refer you back to your post inquiring about foie gras back on June 29th, 2006? Not exactly food for the masses. ;) I think there is still lively discussion about hound places--an example would be a little spot in Chelmsford that serves Mongolian food. I just posted something about a Tamil restaurant opening soon in Nashua, though it has not gotten much response. Some of the original posters on the Northern New England board have gotten bored I think--not a whole lot of new activity on the restaurant scene.

Udupi Bhavan in Nashua?

South Indian food is pretty amazing, and I think you'll like the flavors. I hope this doesn't cut into Meena's business too much, but her cooking is more Hyderbadi, this is more Chennai.

Udupi Bhavan in Nashua?

If you like northern Indian food, which includes meat dishes, India Palace on Amherst Street is very good.

I heart New York--bunch of softies

Ha!

Destination Restaurant in northern New Hampshire?

http://www.notchland.com/

I've recommended this place many times. Owners Les and Ed are wonderful. Gorgeous setting. They have their own swimming hole.

I heart New York--bunch of softies

as a retired night life habitue, it was challenging to eat so early, but I wanted to try Jean Marc's restaurant and early was the only time available. Hope my post did not come off more snarky than intended. ;) I live in New Hampshire--god I miss New York.

I heart New York--bunch of softies

What's happened to New York--it's gotten soft. Everybody is so nice. The guy cutting the pastrami at Katz's was a sweetheart and the fatty meat was delicious. Nothing to complain about. Dinner at Acme was wonderful, though eating at 6:15 was blissfully quiet and serene--where was the ear-splitting din? The carrots and lardo were amazing, as was the pea soup. Nothing to complain about. Next day, burgers at Shake Shack on Fulton Mall were unctuous, and the service was smiley and nice. Whassup? Dinner at Rouge et Blanc on MacDougal was incredible: the marble sized octopi on bone marrow, the perfect soft shell crab in nuoc nam, the fatty lamb ribs with buttery roti. Not to mention the pickled lox, and nova on a bialy from Russ and Daughters for breakfast the next morning. Only thing I couldn't fit in was an order of Popeye's on Court Street...

Udupi Bhavan in Nashua?

saw this comment on the Greater Boston board: Our waiter last night (the bald guy) told us Udupi is planning on opening a new place at 295 Daniel Webster Highway in Nashua NH -- a site where we've seen several conventional Indian restaurants come and go. Our waiter says that history worries them, but as we told him, those places were not very good. If Udupi can keep the current quality and service, they should have no problem.

Has anybody else heard about this?

Lowell's Udupi Bhavan:"Hole in the Wall" South Indian Vegetarian Cuisine at its Best (slogan:Good Luck Trying to Find Us)

Exciting news about the Nashua branch! Hope it does not affect Meena's Kitchen too much.

Menton, Clio, or Craigie? Tasting menu blow-out for family. Recent expeiences?

My memory of Clio is being seated at a booth and having a slow leak dripping from somebody's bathtub upstairs onto my dining companion's jacket. Their reaction was to laugh and move us to another table--no apology and nothing offered. Not even to pay the dry cleaning bill. The sea urchin cotellete was delicious, but nothing else sticks.

New "EAST- WEST" Market in Manchester! SO AWESOME

nice!

New "EAST- WEST" Market in Manchester! SO AWESOME

Thanks Gryph--how does it compare to Spice Market on Valley St?

Love that place! I would recommend Lala's Hungarian Pastry Cafe as well. http://www.lalashungarianpastryandrestaurant.com/

Recs for Sunday dinner before show at Capitol Center, Concord, NH?

The best Mexican you'll find in NH is the little taqueria in south Manchester--El Rincon Zacatecano.

Recs for Sunday dinner before show at Capitol Center, Concord, NH?

O Steak is an option. Beijing Tokyo is directly across the street from CCA--generic Chinese with sushi. Hermano's is open--it's a local institution that serves Mexican.

Fried Clams in or around Manchester NH?

I thought the fried clams at Woodman's in Litchfield were great. It's in Mel's Funway, which is a local amusement park, and yes, quite amusing.

24 hours in Manchester NH

If you're staying downtown at the Radisson, you can walk to a lot of good restaurants. Republic is a wonderful spot serving locally sourced foods with a Mediterranean accent. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, and yes, a good espresso. The owners are semifinalists for the James Beard award--best restaurateurs. A nice lunch/dinner spot is 36 Delux on Lowell St, you can sit at the bar and Matt will prepare inventive seasonal dishes. $5 lunch specials. Or for a splurge, go to Hanover Street Chophouse and have a dozen oysters and their clam chowder, which is fabulous.

Best Breakfasts in New Hampshire

Just saw the article in NH magazine--very nice! That must have been a fun assignment.

Good Mexican, Manchester NH

The south end of Manchester has a high concentration of great ethnic spots--visited Saigon Market (whole fish and pork belly) and the Spice Market (halal goat) yesterday; drove by Zacatecano, an African market, a place selling lamb bbq, and other funky and authentic spots. Maple Street starting at S. Willow is a good place to start.

Is Anyone Else Underwhelmed by Harman's Cheese in Sugar Hill?

Not as touristy as Vermont, but Sugar Hill been "discovered".

Restaurants at the Merrimack Outlets?

Saw at great Calphalon dutch oven at TJ Maxx--$50, too bad I don't have room for another toothpick in my kitchen, much less a gigantic pot.

Best Breakfasts in New Hampshire

Brilliant! Great photos tho I wish you had featured more of River House in Milford.

Need some advice: First time in Boston, one dinner and one lunch.

My suggestion would be to visit the Isabella Stewart Gardiner Museum (new wing by Renzo Piano)--a Venetian palazzo stuffed with art ransacked from Europe around the turn of the century. http://www.gardnermuseum.org/ Small, elegant and manageable. Follow it with a dim sum lunch in China Town.

What Food Trend are You So Sick Of?

The Scandinavian food trendiness featured in all the style magazines. Hand harvested lichen and burnt hay are not at the top of my list.
