Myilai Masala - Vegetarian South Indian - Hamilton (Mercer Co)
Myilai Masala, located in the Clover Shopping Ctr. on Quakerbridge Rd & Sloan Ave, serves excellent vegetarian Indian food. We've tried the lunch buffet and had dinner there. Tonight, the soup of the day was a spicy lentil with pineapple and the masala dosa was crisp & tasty and came with sambar. We tried the vegetable thali which they call by some other name, small dishes of about 8 things (which vary each day) with rice in the middle and bread. Chana masala (chick peas) was outstanding, dal very good, not the sickeningly creamy variety, also a tasty dish with potato and cabbage, poriyal (made with green peppers? R not crazy about this, but I really liked it), lentil sauce for the rice (thinner & less spicy than the dal), yoghurt, pickle, the soup, and a sweet vermicelli dessert R loved. We ordered a side of raita (yoghurt, sour cream, cucumber, onion, etc) - delicious. The bill was a little less than $22. Very good food.
The owners have another restaurant in India and this one replaces a Pakistani restaurant previously at this location between RW Johnson & Risoldis. Yeah we saw the de Lorenzos in Risoldis, but that will have to wait for another visit.
130 South American Grill & Sushi - FOR SALE
Someone has bought this place. Anyone know what is planned? a lot of potential here
El Sham - middle eastern - Hamilton (Mercer Co) NJ
El Sham has been a reliable and friendly place for us since it opened a year ago. It was good then and has steadily improved. The appetizers are colorful, aromatic and fresh, and the meats are flavorful, lean and served in good portions. I always feel well-taken care of when I eat there. I hope the place survives and prospers. Aladdin's Palace was a memorable place for us: we were addicts and we still miss the place. El Sham is a good substitute, eventhough the food is different. (Bring on Aladdin's home-made bread!)
I never got free baklava at either AP or El Sham, and I'm not a shill. I have eaten Middle Eastern food at the homes of my friends and I find El Sham equal to, or better than, anything I have tasted there.
Mug & Muffin Bordentown NJ Farnsworth Ave
I bought a suit once at Miller-Magowan, which occupied the storefront for many years, and yet that building has no special charm for me.
Mug & Muffin Bordentown NJ Farnsworth Ave
Tried the coffee here last weekend. Barely OK. What you might get at any random diner. Beanwood, a few doors away has really outstanding coffee.
NJ - Trenton Kebab House?
Downtown Trenton across the street from the State Motor Vehicle Commission. should be OK. I intend to check it out some time in the next few weeks
NJ - Trenton Kebab House?
Anyone tried it? 226 East State Street Trenton NJ. http://trentonkebabhouse.com/default.aspx
Restaurants Near Academy of Music
How about Ernesto's 1521 at 1521 Spruce? I haven't been for a couple of years but it used to be quite good.
Chim Pun Peruvian Restaurant
My wife brought home take out from Chim Pum Callao last night.... very good. Their web site is http://www.peruvianrestaurantchimpumcallao.com/. We enjoyed the Ceviche mixto ($15) and Parihuela ($14) (described as a fisherman's stew) I'm not familiar with Peruvian food but the ceviche compared well with others I've had. Next time I'm in TR I'll stop in myself.
A great Polish restaurant in Trenton
Yes, this is a very good place... a small BYO with about 10 tables, brightly decorated, friendly and fast service, excellent food, quite low prices (many entrees under $10 I seem to recall). As you say the soups are very tasty. I really like what I think they call Polish Salad, several pickled vegetables like beets, carrots or cabbage served cold. Mashed potatoes are excellent. My favorite entrees are the stuffed cabbage, pierogies, and gulash served inside a potato pancake. Thanks for reminding me about them.
I-295 Diners
If you are travelling this route and want diners, go north on 73 and take 130 which parallels I-295 and meets it at I-295 exit 57. Many, many diners on 130, and the lights are timed so traffic moves. However back to I-295:
Exit 36 - Sage Diner is on Rte 73 about a mile south (or east) I've had some good meals there.
Going north there isn't much of anything until you get to Exit 57 in Bordentown
Wisdom Diner is about a half mile north (north on 130 to first right on Farnsworth Ave, 2 blocks to diner. inexpensive and decent food.
Further north on 130 (a little over a mile) are Town & Country on right and Mastoris on left
T&C is OK but not exceptional.
Many folks go nuts over Mastoris. I think it's too expensive and too much food. There are lots of comments about it on this site. It is certainly decent.
Exit 61-62 A small diner on White Horse Rd at Kuser called Fame. I've only had their breakfast - quite good and not expensive. A bit further north on White Horse is Golden Dawn II - a lot of cars in the lot, breakfast is not cheap. Dinner was only fair a couple of years back.
Exit 63 - Golden Gate used to here (2201 Nottingham Way). It reopened recently with another name. I stopped there for breakfast a few weeks ago. good food, good prices
Harini lunch report
Thanks for the review. We also like this place. They have a large variety of excellent Indian desserts.
El Sham - middle eastern - Hamilton (Mercer Co) NJ
Yeah Glutton. The prices of the combos strike me as a bit on the high side. I went back: lentil soup was a bit thin. Falafel still very good.
El Sham - middle eastern - Hamilton (Mercer Co) NJ
This new middle eastern restaurant http://www.elshamrestaurant.com/Site/Home.html opened yesterday on S. Olden Ave near I-295. We were there for lunch today and not disappointed. A storefront strip mall restaurant with a counter and about 8-10 tables. Excellent food served on plastic plates after ordering at the counter. We tried the vegetarian mixed platter (hummus, grape leaves, and very, very good falafel served with bulgar wheat & onions [rice also an option]) and the lamb shish kebab combo with rice, tabouleh & yogurt salad. All very good. The lamb was tender and spiced in some way I can't describe but enjoyed. Hot tea was only lukewarm, the only disappointment. The desserts are to die for: top quality baklavah, basbusa & kahnafea! Not at all a fancy place, but very clean, and the food is quite good
Little King on Route 33 in Hamilton Twp.
Their specialty is definitely cold hoagies. I've had the meatball parm hoagie: OK but nothing special. I may be wrong, but I'm not likely to try a cheesesteak there.
Little King on Route 33 in Hamilton Twp.
Tom - You are right. Definitely the best subs anywhere at Little King

Yalda Grill and kabob house
Thanks for recommending Yalda Grill http://www.yaldagrill.com/menu.html We were in the Abington area yesterday afternoon so this was very convenient before heading back on the Turnpike to NJ. We started with the Baunjaun Bouranee appetizer, described as "Grilled eggplant, green pepper, fresh tomato, Mediterranean over seasoned sauce served with homemade bread" Very very good. The yogurt sauce adds just the right amount of tang. For entrees we had the Qaubili Palau $10.95, a rice pilaf with lamb, raisins, carrots and a lentil sauce and Mantu $9.95 which the menu describes as "Ground beef and onions- filled dumpling topped with homemade yogurt, meat sauce and mint" (actually a lentil sauce which went very well with the yogurt) served with delicious grilled vegetables. Think of ravioli Both entrees were excellent and the custard-like afghan pudding was also delicious. We come back to try some of the grilled dishes. Would never have known about this place without this board.
Swiss Bakery & Deli - Rte 1, Lawrenceville NJ
I stopped here last week and picked up a loaf of challah bread and a ginger loaf cake. Both were quite STALE. They weren't sold as day old either, and they were far too stale even for that. This place is not near me but I've bought good baked goods here on occasion over the past 20 years. I won't be back.
Review of Route 130 South American Grill and Sushi Restaurant
Has this place closed? I drove by about 12:30 PM yesterday (Tuesday) and saw NO cars in the lot.
Jade Island
Thanks Tom. I didn't know they were serving sushi there. We'll have to go back.
Burlington County NJ: Heirloom apples?
Russo's is excellent, with pick your own and also a very good selection indoors for sale. Their farm stand is open from spring to Thanksgiving. Also, about 2 miles west is Strawberry Hill Farm, pick your own apples, peaches in season http://www.strawberryhillfarm.org/ strictly pick your own.
Jade Island
Tom - Thanks for reminding us about Jade. What did you eat? I haven't been there in a couple of years so I can't comment with any authority but I do remember a pretty good Mongolian lamb dish. Quite a few restaurants have gone out of business at this location in the last 15 years but this place has survived. It is much harder to get to the restaurant than to get out of it. For those who want to check it out: make sure you print out the directions from their web site. Otherwise you'll see the restaurant but won't be able to figure out how to get to its parking lot.
Under the Moon/Bordentown question
MsChow - I'm glad you've convinced your friends. You will really enjoy UTM! We've been there 25 or 30 times and find the food excellent and different. I'm embarrassed that I can't recall more specific details. Even mundane items like spaghetti and meatballs (they only had it once when we were there) are great. Fish and chicken dishes vary and are quite good.
Brother's vs. Tina's Pizza in Hamilton, NJ
Drive south past the White Horse Circle to Palermo's on 206 in Bordentown. Always excellent pies there.
La Gondola Lakehurst NJ........................
Sounds horrible. Ate here many times for years and always good food, but haven't been for about 3 years since I stopped working at Lakehurst.
Fernando's - a gem in Robbinsville
We've been to Fernando's 5 or 6 times and the service has always been very good as was the food. Pork tenderloin, salmon, chicken, and scallops all very good. They serve an excellent hamburger too. Open on Mondays.
Chambersburg??
We had a good breakfast at Chris's Country Kitchen Restaurant, 1329 Lincoln Way E (Route 30). (Omlette and pancakes) For dinner, standard good Mexican at Montezuma, also on Route 30 a little east of I-81.
Chambersburg??
We'll be staying in Chambersburg this weekend. Where should we eat dinner and breakfast? I found very few recent searches about this area by searching so maybe there aren't many CHs in the area.
