Balance of design and taste?

can anyone give me a list of places to eat that have a great balance of fantastic food but also look great?

I love interior design and as such I'm looking for places to Dine for both lunches, bruches and in particular a big celebratory dinner on a saturday night that will make the guest of honour gowow at both the food and the interior of the venue.

buget-wise? anyting upto $200 per person all included... not big alchol drinkers, maybe a cocktail and a glass of white wine will do us.

Thanks in advance

Design meets great food/service with great atmosphere?

I've got the Saturday night down to about 4 venues. Of course, this could all change nearer the time. We're very excited by the prospect of a more foodie trip this time around. I think we only managed shake shack and a couple of quaint French restaurants. This was down to not planning. What's Breslin like?

Sunday Brunch in Chelsea?

Can anybody suggest any good eateries for Sunday brunch. It will be in November... So plenty of time to plan ahead. Preferably in the Chelsea area with a great atmosphere.

50th Birthday break in NYC...

Balthazar is looking to be high up there as an option for the Saturday if the budget allows. ABC Kitchen & Babbo are also two others that we might visit, time and money permitting. Being a huge novice on hear and indeed in manhattan... This site and it's followers have been brilliant.

Design meets great food/service with great atmosphere?

We will be staying in november this year for 5 nights in the 42nd st with 9th av area. We have pretty much sorted a place to go for the Saturday night we are there. However, we would love to know some suggestions of places to fill the other nights.

A different district every night would be great but not essential. As would a different flavour of restaurant. These nights would be wednesday, thursday, friday (chelsea maybe?) and a great sunday brunch somewhere. Not looking to break the bank (that will be the Saturday night) but just places that are relatively inexpensive, have great character & design, with a great atmosphere.

Appreciate any help... this is only our second visit. the last visit was pretty much your typical last minute decisions of places to eat. As such, the standard of choice suffered.

Balthazar?

Thanks, I couldn't open the website from my phone. I'll take a look later. As for alcohol, we're not big drinkers, maybe a couple of glasses of white wine

Balthazar?

I'm visiting in November for my partners 50th birthday. This sounds fantastic. In regards to budget, can evening dinner be done for between $80-$100 per person including tax/tip?

50th Birthday break in NYC...

thanks for all these suggestions I have copied them down for further investigation.

I suppose by cool, I mean fun, different, funky, great design, wow factor, a different take on the classic etc... doesn't ned to be the new "place to be seen".

i really appreciate all the help. Amy's bread is already on my radar for a birthday cake.

50th Birthday break in NYC...

We can eat before or after a show... we did that last time we were in NYC. As for the other stuff, it was just to give the idea of what the general vibe of the evening would be.

Also, in regards to planning ahead... whats wrong with that?

If Buddakan is old and tired, what makes it old and tired? Is it in regards to poor service? poor menu? poor price? We are not from New York, so anywhere would be new to us. By cool, I don't mean "new and trendy". I simply mean... well... cool. A venue can still be old (so last year) and cool.

The daytime ideas I was looking for were also places to eat.

Thanks for the heads up.

50th Birthday break in NYC...

Hi guys and gals,

We are coming to NYC and staying in the times square area in mid November for my Husbands 50th Birthday. I have found lots of great places to eat on other nights that we are staying there but for the big night of his 50th on the saturday night, i'm looking for somewhere even better. ideally, not somewhere thats going to break the bank but has a "wow" factor.

Up to now I have been advised of some of the usual suspects such as Buddakan. I would love for the night to have a big celebration dinner and then on to either a show and hopefully a great cabaret venue. If you have any suggestions for that too that would be great. We are a married gay male couple so not easily shocked.

suggestions of special things to do in the daytime also welcome... I'm completely at a loss with so many choices in such a great city.

we are visting from Nottingham in the Uk

thanks in advance for your help
