Final meals before saying good-bye to LA...

On the Italian front, I would go with Tana's for the experience (fun, old school, great steaks and drinks). Must sit in the front room. Il Piccolino is another fav. Food is outstanding as is service. Madeo is very good, but more formal and very pricy (not that the others are cheap). Have heard very good things about both Gusto (small) and Bucato, but have not been.

PLAN CHECK DOWNTOWN - NOTHING LIKE IT

Was at the Plan Check opening last night. What a fun addition to the Downtown scene. Absolutely packed. Great bar with big screens for sports and just a really fun, creative menu. Fried chicken was outstanding. Fries were big and crispy and sweet potato fries were really tasty. New short rib dish was good too. Some salad and vegie choices have been added. Very much a party vibe. Kind of like a much more hip and creative Houston's.

AOC & Tavern

Had a great meal at AOC. The grilled peaches, farmers plate and fried oysters were all winners.

Best Duck Dishes in LA?

I was at AOC the other night and noticed a duck dish on the menu. Did not try it but would expect it to be very good as everything we had was.

POP UP

I have a chef friend looking to test a new concept. Anyone know of any west side pop up locations that might work or have any suggestions. Its casual and needs 1500 - 2,000 sq ft. Thanks.

Quiet small romantic restaurant near LA Music Center

I would respectfully pass on both. Taylor's has had horrible reviews on this board and PDC is decades past its prime.

group dinner in Brentwood/Westwood area

I have hosted dinners for that size group at Divino in Brentwood. They are great.

Restaurant with good food and good drinks for 40th birthday?

Drago Centro is solid but nothing exciting. Many better choices.

Restaurant with good food and good drinks for 40th birthday?

No bar at Mozza. Il Piccolino would be a great fit as would AOC. Tana's too if you can sit in the front room. Otherwise pass.

ok, where on the westside can i find a GREAT baked potato with sour cream?

Although I opted for the onion rings, the baked potato at The Grill looked great!

Actually, I believe Spago will do it off the menu. Great dish.

chinese in beverly hills?

Yes, I forgot. It was a while back. Its their specialty and quite good.

Also, if you take it to go, you can grab a drink at Vibrato which is one of the best bars in town. Good steaks too. The other night I walked in and Herb Alpert (who owns it) was rehearsing. Sat around, had a nice drink and enjoyed some great jazz.

chinese in beverly hills?

Le Chin Wok at the top of Beverly Glen (Bel Air) is pretty good and reasonable. I especially like their duck dishes and won ton soup. They will also make special spicy off the menu dishes if you ask.

Which LA restaurants could be realistically considered among the top 100 in the country?

Have to agree on Chi Spacca.

Another Wonderful Dinner at Chi Spacca

3 of us had another great meal at Chi Spacca. Probably my favorite place in LA right now (Stinking Rose aside). Started with the Affettat Misti which was great. Butcher's pate was a highlight but it was all outstanding. Also had pickles, butter lettuces, broccoli, Focaccia (another highlight) and Costata alla Fiorentina (bone in NY 42 oz). It was as good a steak as I can recall, but I probably would still do the porterhouse next time (if we went the steak route). Otherwise the chicken looked great and the Milk Roasted Pork Loin was highly touted and I was sorry we did not try that. Wine was wonderful and the service (Veronica) could not have been better. Really exceptional.

Chi Spacca

Good to know! I was asking for recs? I have had the pork chop and other plates but not either of the steaks. Was looking for feedback on the steaks.

Flying into LAX -- one special dinner . . . suggestions?

Also depends on the vibe you want. Valentino is very good (although I have not been for a few years) but a more formal experience than say AOC.
