LA Weekly 20 Best Restaurants in LA. I know "Not another list"

We should never have got started with the Stinking Rose.

Chi Spacca - Favorite

I would not be able to finish it myself. I was with my buddy and he treated. The cured meat assortment was almost a meal by itself. It is expensive, but soooo gooood. The portions we had were for (at least two). So the chop was $40 each, the platter $12 each and the salad $6 each. Certainly not cheap, but great quality and service.

We trade off each month and I may well go back for the steak.

We had very different menus. If you like pork, try the tomahawk and cured meat platter. Really good. There was no way I could ever eat desert there so cant comment on that. I dont know that the room is overly charming, but I thought it was not unlike Picca or Sotto and certainly much nicer than Salt's Cure.

Mastro's, CUT, or STK? Looking for best steak in LA

I was at Chi Spacca last night and the steak looked spectacular. Our server said it was fantastic, but we opted for the tomahawk pork chop. Loved it but already planing to go back for the steak.

Surprised you are not a Chi Spacca fan. Why not?

Chi Spacca - Favorite

Made it to Chi Spacca last night. Absolutely loved it.

Service and wine suggestions were great.

Started with the affettati misti - huge platter of assorted cured meats (off the charts)

butter lettuces - light and perfect with the ton of meat we consumed.

tomahawk pork chop - Best ever. Even better than Sotto.

Steak looked amazing and will have to try it next time, which will be soon.

Lets not confuse the poor guy. Stinking Rose is a joke.

I like Mastro's and Angelini and am trying Chi Spacca for the first time this week. Also, had a very good steak recently at Wolfgang's. Dont care for the vibe at CUT, too cold and sterile IMO.

Dan Tanas - what to order?

Very happy to hear it.

The seating you had is nice, but next time it might be fun to sit in the other room. Its quite the scene. Anyway, glad you liked the Chicken Beckerman-Thor!

Shiki in Beverly Hills. Who's going to be the first to check it out?

Do you only drink Gin with British food? French wine with French food? Scotch with Scottish food?

Shiki in Beverly Hills. Who's going to be the first to check it out?

No. Went next door to Il Pastaio. Had the sea food spaghetti (really good) and a couple of Patrons.

Romantic Italian Restaurants on the West Side?

Disagree on Riva Bella. Food is nowhere near as good as Angelini.

Shiki in Beverly Hills. Who's going to be the first to check it out?

Walked in last night with my son around 7 pm. We were a bit nervous because there were about 15 servers standing at attention and only a couple of tables taken. Asked to see a menu before getting a table and an over zealous waiter pounced on us and proceeded to recommend everything on the menu particularly the most expensive beef dishes. Asked if they had a full bar and was told they did and we were seated. Once seated the over zealous waiter pounced again. I asked if we could have a minute and what tequila they had. He said they had sake, beer and wine. I said what about the full bar. He said, he meant a full bar of saki, beer and wine. He left us for a very short period and then came back and said was it ok that it might take extra time to get our food because he was fairly new. Now I was really nervous given there were less than 6 other people dining and made an executive decision to leave and have dinner down the street. Somewhat of a surreal experience.

Dan Tanas - what to order?

How is the Sapphire East different? I actually like the regular Bombay better than the Sapphire. My favorite Gin is Bootles, but you seldom see it any more.

Dan Tanas - what to order?

Someone should start a campaign!

I always stress the dark meat because the first time I ordered the Beckerman (many meals ago) based upon the recommendation of a friend whose suggestions I respect very much, I did not order the dark meat and it was horribly dry. When I told my friend that I tried the Beckerman and thought it sucked, he mentioned that you have to order all dark meat. Wish I had known the first time. Since that time, I have had it countless times the right way and am always very happy. Every once and a while I will deviate for the Steak & Peppers and always steal some of my wife's White Fist.

Best Take Out Options in LA?

I really like the lime chicken dish they sometimes have at Erewhon. I find the take out foods at Whole Foods hit and miss. Some is pretty good, others not. There Mary's roast chicken as well as there fried chicken are both particularly bad.

Best Take Out Options in LA?

We take out from Shamshiri regularly. Really like the lamb shank

Also:

Pollo a la Brasa
Frida - carnitas platter or short ribs
Baronies Pizza
El Pollo Loco - not very chow-ish, but must confess
For Westside Chinese - Le Chin Wok (Peking Duck)
Hardy's Best BBQ - behind Hardy's Meat Market (weekends only)
Fried Chicken Sand - Honor Bar
Wolfgang's - chop salad

CHI LIN - A Pleasant Surprise

WOW. You are right. The owners are "re-conceptualizing" the place. No specifics announced. That was fast!!

Baby Friendly in LA

Breakfast or lunch or brunch at Back to the Beach on the sand in Santa Monica would be fun. There is an adjacent play area on the sand for the kids and the eggs, salads and burger dishes are good quality.

LA Weekly 10 Best LA Bagels

The original I & Joy was the La Barbara's of bagels. Reproduced for a few years at the now departed Malibu Bread & Bagel. The best now is Bagel Nosh.
