Where to eat - foodies from NYC?

Chi Spacca. Meatcentric jewel of the Mozza group. Not too far east from you.

Two New Yorkers spending two nights in Los Angeles. Help us eat great!

Fairfax is not far from Chi Spacca at Melrose and Highland. Fantastic meatcentric creations from the Mozza group.

Surprisingly, Palomino in Westwood has an outstanding mushroom salad. Really super.

Who is the Best Mobile BBQ shop in LA or Long Beach area?

Candy (310) 905-2700 they do it all, including bringing the grill.

If you want to pick up, Hardy's on the weekend Coldwater and Moorpark is really good. Great rib. Catered beef ribs from them last night and went back for baby backs tonight to go with leftovers.

Candy's BBQ. They are at the BH farmers market every Sunday. They catered a party for us and we're great.

From Kevin G:

So I finally got the chance to try one of the much praised, seemingly elusive for decades, iconic La Barbera cheese pie (thanks to Thor who's been an immense proponent of the joint. Perhaps immense might be slightly an understatement ?????????????????).
We met up at the most suitable of joints: Where else but fucking Tana's ????
Thor arrived with the goods: a pepperoni pie, sausage pie, and a cheese pie, and gingerly handed it over to the chef throw in the oven and dole out.
The third pie to arrive was the cheese pie just as my hunger was about to reach its fucking zenith. It smelled deliciously ambrosial and looked like the type of ultra-uber-cheesey pie on a pliant, though cracker-esque crust (caveat emptor: it is a frozen crust after all) that would not be out of place in a grand, homey, iconic neighborhood restauarant in a suburb Minneapolsis. Which is to say still pretty fucking tasty. Sadly, there was no punch from a tomato sauce on offer; mostly it was all about the cheese and crust. Did I happen to mention that it was cheese intensive ????????????????
It's a good slice of pizza. But then again I don't have a nostalgic or firmly sentimental connection to the fucking joint like hordes of super fans that would donate hundreds of dollars, if not thousands upon thousands, if the joint happened to open again. (I missed even the tail end of La Barbera's in 1985 before it became perpetually defunct).
After the pie, I was still hungry and at Tana's, so I did what I fucking do best: eat, for fuck's sake. Oh, and drinks. Because how can one go to Tana's and not have a drink, or five ?????????????? And that ain't no fucking joke.
A few scotch and sodas, an old fashioned, a couple of those herbal, distinctively Croatian liquor hosts, a few meatballs in meat sauce (seriously goes well with the cocktails) and the sauteed whitefish, some sliced, juicy beefsteak tomatoes, and a slice of chocolate mousse cheesecake to gild the proverbial fucking lilly.
Then it was off into the sunset.

Mori...not the same for everyone

Yamakase is great. Its unfortunate that it has been hit by Prohibition.

the galley in santa monica

Yep. I did a party there. Very fun place. Not great food or steaks, but still a good time. Galley is better but you go to Galley for steamed clams not steak. Great clams!

The Galley is a classic. Much cooler than Taylors. More in the Che Jay vibe. Great for drinks and steamed clams. Not a steak house but really good steamed clams. Fun place in the nice dive set.

Hakkasan Beverly Drive closing this weekend

Had lots of fun in the day at Genghis. Xian is ok but I am sick of it. They took the Le Chine Wok space on Beverly Glen which was my go too take out for Chinese in these parts. Joss is a bit pricy for take out. Have not tried the place is CC but hear it might be good.

Pre-cooked lobster meat

Not sure but would not be surprised if Traders or CostCo had frozen cooked.

Who's "Mary", and why does Restaurant Week seem to be eating her chickens?

I was referring to the pre-cooked chickens at Whole Foods not the butcher section. The pre-cooked are not very good in my opinion.

I will defer to you. I was there for a UCSB graduation dinner and thought it was very nice and charming, but agree not lively or hip.

Just had Mary's chicken at Wally's very good. Whole Foods does a cooked Mary's chicken which I find extremely bland.
