Los Angeles Restaurants in the 80's

Thats a pretty broad question.

800 Degrees Has the Best ... Pizza in LA

Gave it one last try today and it was a bad as ever. Had the sausage pie. Asked them to do it a bit longer as the last two times were silly runny. Still all the cheese and toppings slid off and left with just crust with sauce for the most part. Good crust. Crappy pizza though IMO.

The best thing I ate on the 4th was.....

Big meaty BBQ Beef Ribs!

Ethnic restaurants near Beverly hills

I you are really confined to BH and looking for solid (not state of the art) ethnic food:

Momed: South Beverly. Good med food. The duck schwarma wrap is really good.

Panini Cafe: Solid kabobs etc

Il Forno Caldo: Family owned and run Italian - very nice

Nosh of BH: Best bagels in town.

If you can spring for it:

Sotto: Italian
Pica: Peruvian
AOC: Med

Are all worth it. But then you get into a ton of choices as well. A fun tip.

Go to Spago. Call in advance and reserve a table in the bar adjacent to the patio. You get the lower price bar menu (and regular if you want), and are basically on the patio for a fraction of the price. Classics you can ask for are the salmon pizza or duck sausage pizza which they will often do off menu. Good luck. Hope all goes well for your family.

Hope so.

La Scala Sucks

Final comment on the subject (read the heading and remember), on Tuesday called corporate head quarters and explained what happened and my long history (albeit against my will) with LaScala. So sorry, the manager will get back to you, can we take your number. Still no call. Lets say it together "LaScala ___cks!!!"

Desert for July 4th Party?

Costco. Pies and cookies are very good and reasonable.

Grill Chef for a Party

You are welcome. If you are near BH, go to the BH Farmers market on Sunday (Beverly Blvd at Rexford) and see him. He will give you tastes and you can give him a better idea of what you want. His english is not great on the phone so it would help.

Grill Chef for a Party

Just spoke to him. Thats the number. Great burgers, sausage, ribs etc. Nice guy too. Tons of food. I think it was $25-30 a person, but if you are just doing burgers and sausage I bet it could be done a lot less. He also did corn on the cob, chicken and tri-tip for u.

(310) 905-2700 is the mobile I believe

You can also call Greystone that runs the BH Farmer's Market at 310 285-6830 and they will give it to you. I just tried, but the woman who runs it is out. If you call and leave a message I am sure she will call you back. They were really good.

Grill Chef for a Party

We just did a party for 35 with Candy BBQ. He does great burgers, sausage and BBQ. Great guy and very reasonable. They will even bring the grill. They do the BBQ at the BH Farmers market on Sundays if you want to sample. Was really happy.

My experience with 800 degrees is it is great for the value but not great in and of its self.

La Scala Sucks

Tried to call them again at lunch. Again could not get the manager to come to the phone. By the way, I was very polite.

La Scala Sucks

While I have been on record as a major detractor of La Scala, I am forced to pick up the chopped salad there for other family members from time to time. Last night was one of those times and when I got home I discovered that they had failed to include the dressing with their shredded iceberg and processed cheese chopped salad. When I called to report this, I was told that its the customer's responsibility to make sure the dressing is included. I then asked to speak with the manager and was put on indefinate hold. Called back three times and the manager would not come to the phone. Not only is the food bad and over-priced, management is incompetent. Place should be avoided like the plague.

Musso & Frank Grill or Dan Tana's

Dan Tanas hands down. Better food, drinks and vibe. You want to sit in the front bar room.

Dinner for 10 in Orleans

Abba was great! Chef is great, food is great, service is very slow.
Nauset Beach Club sucks! Expensive, service is beyond slow. 1 1/2 hours to get appatizers small portions and no class.
Agree Becon is decent, but easy good and going twice.
Abba is the only place on the Cape so far that has been great.
