Culinary adventures in St. Lucia
Might be too late for you but we stayed at Jade Mountain in Feb and the Indian restaurant down on the beach at Anse Chastenet was quite good. Not local or hole in the wall by any means, pretty pricey, but we thought the food was surprisingly quite good
Buenos Aires for a 22 yr old starving American
Visiting our daughter next month in BA (Recoleta), she has been there since Jan and is teaching English and is on a VERY tight budget. Food has been a struggle, she misses decent fruits and veggies, sushi, even decent chicken! Beef, beef and more beef is getting tiresome. We want to treat her to some great places when we are there. We of course want to try the local stuff (parrilla, BA pizza, empanadas, etc), but am specifically looking for recs for other types of places, esp fish and sushi. Quite frankly, some "American" type places, but not Hard Rock or Mickey Ds! Thanks for any suggestions!
Best moderate option in Bridgehampton?
Want to give a $100-150 gift card to someone as a thank you, they live and work in Bridgehampton on LI. I am not that familiar with the LI area and am looking for a recommendation for a nice but not over the top place (no North Fork, etc). Doesn't have to be IN Bridgehampton per se but don't want them to have to drive all over creation to enjoy a nice dinner out. Suggestions? I believe they are fairly sophisticated diners but not snooty at all. Thanks!!
Holiday party for 80, private room?
Back against the wall trying to plan the company Xmas party again, always wait too long. We are getting bigger and bigger, will probably need a room that seats around 80. Looking to spend $100-125 per person including tip. Prefer downtown, in the past have been to (and in many cases ourgrown) places such as Acadiana, Old Ebbitts, Maggianos, District Chophouse, Neyla. Open to different cuisines although nothing too out there, need to keep everyone happy. Any suggestions of places that I might be overlooking? Thx!!

Lunch "like" Larchmont Bungalow
Need a place for lunch this Friday after USC graduation, we are already going to go to Larchmont for breakfast on Saturday but my daughter wants me to find a place "just like it" for lunch on Friday! I'm from DC so not that familiar with the area, don't want to be driving for an hr or waiting forever somewhere as we'll be eating late as it is. Will probably be 4 people, possibly 8. Any suggestions? Thx!

Graduation dinner downtown/westside
Daughter (vegetarian with a side of fish) is graduating from USC next month, looking for places for a couple of special dinners over the weekend. Prefer downtown or westside, don't want to drive all over LA no matter how good it is. Kids adore sushi but hubby and I are lukewarm on it so somewhere with sushi/fusion would be great one night (Katsuya at LA Live?), maybe a great steakhouse the other night (BOA in Santa Monica?), seafood or Latin/Spanish cuisine since she's moving to Argentina in a few months. We aren't super foodie types but all enjoy an unusual creative menu with great service and comfortable upscale ambience. Suggestions please? Thx all!
Sonoma in the rain?
Heading up there tomorrow, lousy weather - any recs about wineries that have particularly cozy tasting rooms where we can seek refuge? Trying to stay in the southern part of the valley since we are only driving up from SF for the day. Thanks!!
One night is Istanbul
Husband and I will be there for one night before boarding a cruise ship in Sept. Will probably be jetlagged but would enjoy a quality, unique but not over-the-top meal. Staying at the W, close by a definite plus so we can be back at the hotel before we fall asleep over dessert! Suggestions?
Seafood in Miami
Is Grillfish across town? Don't know which restaurant you're referring to...
Seafood in Miami
Staying at the Epic but can't seem to view the menu at Area 31 right now online, do they have a lot of seafood? Looking for a place for Friday night/Lent. Other possible options...Red Fish Grill, Oceanaire, Emeril's, Joe's? Feedback or other suggestions welcome, thx!
Worthwhile dining near USC????
Going to be there visiting my daughter this weekend, I know the pickings are basically non-existent. We usually wind up somewhere downtown because I don't want to drive all over the place, get lost, can't find parking, etc and I'm from DC anyway so don't know my way around that well. That being said - any other suggestions besides downtown, which is so convenient to campus? Been to Engine Co, Zucca, Ciao Trattoria, Roy's and a few others which were all fine but looking for new, relatively convenient ideas. Thanks!!
Bermuda/Pink Beaches dinner?
Have only been to BDA once about 15 years ago, went to Fourways then and it was fantastic, is it still around? Otherwise have read good things about Blu, any other recommendations around Pink Beaches?
Downtown LA
Big article in the Washington Post today about the revivial of downtown LA - am visiting my daughter at USC in a week - any recommendations of places downtown since it's fairly close to campus? Beats travelling all the way to Santa Monica or Beverly Hills! Thanks so much.
SD/Gaslamp/Convention Ctr dinner?
Staying at the Manchester Hyatt, am not that familiar with SD in general, saw an earlier post re: high end dining but don't know what would be convenient to this area near our hotel. Any suggestions? Prefer Modern/Contemporary American, Italian, steak, seafood, not crazy about more ethnic foods in general but am open to ideas! Thanks!!
Boston College Parents Weekend
Have reservations at Eastern Standard Sat night but just realized there is a Sox game - am I making a mistake, is it going to be pretty wild? Going with BC son and his girlfriend and some members of her family who we don't know, ES seems like a great choice because it seems to have a really broad menu, some of the group are rather fussy eaters, but I don't want to dine at the zoo either! If not there, any good suggestions for that sort of group in Brookline/Newton?
Good Eats in Vancouver and Vancouver Island
Just returned from 5 days in Vancouver/Victoria and had some great meals! Vij's was FANTASTIC and a great value, had the lamb popsicles and short ribs for main course, sublime. West was also outstanding but we felt somewhat overpriced, I had scallops and I think my husband had salmon. In Victoria we stayed at Brentwood Bay about 20 minutes north of town and had dinner at their lovely dining room one of the nights. It was very good, picturesue overlooking the bay. But the service was quite slow. Also ate at Lure, recommended for seafood and they were right! Excellent halibut, my husband requested a different prep on salmon from what was on the menu, they accomodated him easily and it too was outstanding, all while overlooking the harbor and Parliment building at night.
Lift in Vancouver [Moved from Canada]
Anyone eaten here? Thinking about going for dinner tomorrow night, our first night in Vancouver, before going to West on Friday.
Melting Pot Restaurant
Have eaten at the one in DC a couple of times, it's fun and pretty good but quite pricey. Can easily run $50 pp before drinks. Especially good with 4-8 people, more than that and it becomes a bit of a zoo!
Need Pizza Delivery in Old Town Alexandria
there is a zpizza on frontier drive across from Springfield Mall too, next to Penn Camera. Haven't been there but guess I'll have to try it!
70th birthday celebration
Thx for the ideas, will definitely check them out - any more out there?
private dining in Beantown
I agree (I've hosted my own company Xmas party at Maggiano's in DC!) but appreciate their desire for something new - thx for the ideas!
70th birthday celebration
I'm new to this :) - $50-75 pp before alcohol would work, not too ethnic, probably American/continental/seafood/steak, something with a twist, just too too big of a twist!
private dining in Beantown
My son is looking for a restaurant to hold his company's Xmas party, 35-50 people. They have gone to Maggiano's the past few years, want to try something different but probably in that price range, preferably near the T. I don't live in Boston nyself so am not that familiar with what restaurants have private facilities there. Thanks!
70th birthday celebration
Am getting together with the family for mother-in-laws 70th, none of us are from Chicago although mom and dad lived there till about 10 years ago. Looking for a special place but not too avant garde, not too foo-foo. But not just your basic steak house either. Will be staying at the Drake but will have access to a car so doesn't have to be downtown. Suggestions?!?
