Lunch spots with good wine lists in Napa or Sonoma? This is perfect - Thank you! This sounds like exactly what I was looking for. And glad to hear more endorsements for Farmhouse. And I should clarify what I mean by "tasting" probably. I'm not a particularly technical wine enthusiast, so the formal tastings aren't necessarily required for me (though my husband loves them.) So I really mean, literally, just where could I get some smaller pours of a couple of different wines. The Downtown Joe's warning is also much appreciated! |

Lunch spots with good wine lists in Napa or Sonoma? My husband and I are heading out to Napa and Sonoma in July for the first time and I am looking for some good lunch suggestions. We have dinner reservations at Redd's and Ad Hoc. And we are visiting a couple of wineries of which we are members. A friend suggested though that the better day time "tasting" experience is often to go to a good lunch and just drink off the local wine lists. So I am interested in some suggestions for places that could be good for lunch with good wine lists, especially wines by the glass (it is lunch time after all.) Since we are staying in Yountville and having dinner in Yountville, I'd love thoughts on places outside of that town so we can get out and see some other areas. Happy to drive to Sonoma as well. I have looked at the threads I saw here recently and seen great recommendations for food (you guys gave me Redd's! But also looking at Goose and Gander, Farmhouse, Backyard, Cafe Lucia) but haven't seen too much on the wine lists specifically. Or maybe this is a dumb question bc it's Napa/Sonoma and all the wine lists are excellent. (If that's the answer, break it to me gently.) Thanks for the suggestions! |

I am with monkeyrotica that Crisfields seems right up your alley in Silver Spring. And, thanks for the recommendation on Mid Atlantic, never been, but now will try it! |

Steamed Crabs in Solomon's Island? Clarke's Landing is excellent. Also like Stoney's at Solomon's Pier. The setting is fantastic and we always have a good meal there. |

Has anyone here eaten at Le Diplomate? I guess I am the lone voice of dissent. I went to LD a few weeks ago with a friend and was decidedly underwhelmed. I had the lamb shank and she had the mussels and neither of us were particularly impressed. The lamb was dry (tough to do for a braised piece of meat), the flavors weren't well blended (it came with couscous with dried apricots and a harissa yogurt sauce) and over all, the dish just didn't seem to come together. The mussels were well well cooked, but were really drowned in butter. Enough that it had separated out from the wine sauce and was a little clear pool about a half inch deep on top of the bowl. Not very appetizing. The highlights: The country duck terrine we had to start was great, the bread was delicious and the wine selection was excellent. The place itself is also a gorgeous space and really nice atmosphere. And the service was excellent, which in DC is always a nice change of pace! I'll try it again both because I really want to love it here, but also just bc some time places just have an off night. |

Both do look good and actually the beer list is what I like best on both menus! Thanks! |

Two votes for Grange and I can see why, that looks incredible! OK, I guess these two non-Michigan Big Ten alums will have to suck it up, it sounds like this will be worth it. Thanks! |

I live in DC, $14 for a steak sandwich sounds pretty reasonable to me! Thanks, this sounds great! |

Thanks Markcron! That looks awesome. I did check out the thread, but there were only a few listed. Though Root and Tallulah looked especially good. I've been to Toast, but I think of that more as a breakfast place. And certainly don't need to be in Detroit--happy to travel around the metro area for some good chow! |

I know, I know, I cringe when I hear myself say this bc it sounds so annoying. BUT - I'm heading to Detroit for the weekend to visit a friend who is there on an extended work deployment. I have spent some quality time there myself for work, so I have had lots of terrific Detroit foods (coneys, the best Middle Eastern food outside of the Middle East, etc). So for this trip, I am looking for some places that are more farm to table, or locally sourced food. Doesn't need to be fancy or hipster, just looking to try something that is different from what I normally eat in Detroit. So think of farm to table but also think of the place with the best fresh fish you know of...thanks, Chows!! |

I am always in to try new BBQ--these are great, I'll take a look, thanks! |

Your best London recs -- high end and low end? Never left the final tally--we ate like kings the whole week! Boxing day was tough and there were a number of places closed for lunch that week, but we made out ok and didn't have a single bad meal. The stand outs were Bull and Last, Quo Vadis and St. John Hotel, with St. John Hotel being one of the best meals I have ever eaten. Went to Laughing Gravy for an excellent brunch, the cafe which I am forgetting the name of right now for brunch another day at Spitalfields Market, and hit Borough Market for a great lunch one day (pies from the Pie Minister and some venison sausage hit the spot on one of the colder days). All in all a terrific experience, thanks for your suggestions!! |

I am flying into Atlanta on Monday early evening and looking for good take out I can pick up on the way to visit friends. Ethnic, bbq, good sandwiches are all welcome choices! Sad to say it is Monday so Gu's, which gets good reviews all over the Chow, is closed. We are coming from the airport and heading up to Sandy Spring area, but happy to go out of the way for good grub! |

Well Komi definitely wins! That's the best meal I have had in DC. For something different (cheaper) the chef has another restaurant 2 doors down int he basement called Little Serow. Thai tasting menu $45/ea. It's very good, not like anything I have had in the area before. No sign on the door, next to a dry cleaner. |

Second all of these-Hanks is terrific and they recently expanded (my concept of recent is long, so it was probably a year ago now). Estradiol is terrific for fun decisions tapas. Sitting at the bar is a great option there. At 14th and Church is one of my favorite spots, Posto. Italian food, a lot of wines by the glass and a big enough menu that you can easily got salad and pizza and keep it more afforable or have a more lengthy multi course meal that feels more formal. |

Where can I find Mae Ploy or Nittaya brands of Thai curry paste? Hi, I know you are in Nova, but Thai Grocery on Thayer in Silver Spring carries these. Or did last time I was there. Have you checked out Super H? It's Korean, but I have always found a lot of Thai and other Asian specialties there as well. I believe it is in Fairfax, though I could be wrong. Thai food without the right ingredients is hardly worth making, good luck! |

Your best London recs -- high end and low end? Barrafina looks awesome, and Spanish food is always a treat. Definitely on the list. Love that it is a tapas place so I don't have to count it for a meal, we'll just call it snacks. |

Your best London recs -- high end and low end? My husband is really into wine, so Terriors and Vinoteca both made his short list of places to check out (I don't mind indulging his hobby!) And I was looking at Green Man and French Horn which does look good and is convenient to where we are staying. |

Your best London recs -- high end and low end? Alyn Williams looks incredible. We made a reservation there. Also made a reservation for L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon which looked interesting. Thanks for the tips! |

Your best London recs -- high end and low end? Thanks David, Great Queen is definitely on the list, looks great, as does J Sheeky! |

Your best London recs -- high end and low end? Hilarious on the BBQ--I totally agree! Having also lived in NC, and owning our own smoker, we are pretty snobby about our BBQ. I feel the same way about crab cakes. I only like them from Maryland. The Thai rec is good too, thank you--we LOVE Thai, and my usual complaint is (like Chinese food) it is hard to get authentic Thai. Will add that as well. |
|
|
Your best London recs -- high end and low end? Quilon looks great! I'll put that on the list for sure. Anyone been to Tamarind? Their lunch menu looked good, but wasn't sure if it was worth it (a little pricey.) Never had Pakistani food--what should we expect? |
|
|
Your best London recs -- high end and low end? Thanks, Indian is definitely on the list. Seems like about half the places I have checked out so far are closed, but a fair amount seem to be open (probably not the higher end spots, but maybe that's a good thing for our budget?) I'll check out Rules too. Thoughts on Brawn? Looked promising. |

Your best London recs -- high end and low end? I'm heading to London with friends between Christmas and New Years. While I will definitely spend the next week pouring through the reviews here (ahem, and working of course) I was looking to solicit your favorites, Chowhounders! We are looking for a couple of high end spots and then some good lunch or casual spots. Fair to include markets, pubs and Indian, though we will probably not hit too many other non-Continental cuisine ethnic places (live in DC, so we have lots of fine options for that here!) Definitely need one spot at least for "traditional" British fare (read: organ meats.) Thanks! |
|
|
Chowhounders--I am headed to Waco for a couple of days for work. Anything there I should try to hit? I'd go for pretty much anything of note, as I am going to be at a conference and anticipate eating a lot of bad conference food that I'd like to offset. Thanks! |

Yellowstone area recommendations That sounds great! We are going to be about 45 minutes from Bozeman to the south, towards Yellowstone. |

Yellowstone area recommendations Hello Western States Foodies! My husband and I are heading to the Yellowstone area in July for a weekend. We are staying outside of Bozeman in MT, but will be heading into Yellowstone and don't mind a drive for a good hike followed up with good food. So I am looking for recommendations--either in/around the Bozeman-Gallatin area or elsewhere around Yellowstone in Wyoming. We are open to all kinds--high end, small spots or diners, sandwiches--anything! Thanks! |

Orlando area top 10 - February 2012 I forgot to update! We went to Ravenous Pig and it was really great, very good pick! We got to sit at the back bar, so could see into the kitchen and see everything as it went out. A little food window shopping. The ceviche was really excellent and unlike other ceviche I have had (sashimi style cuts, thai flavors in the cure.) Service was fine (it was a Monday I think)--they were able to take us a good 45 minutes before our reservation, so I started out there in a good mood! I had the lamb as a main dish and it was really incredible. Thanks to all! |

Orlando area top 10 - February 2012 This is great--I think we will go Ravenous Pig and next time we are in Orlando (there for business a few times a year) hit the Rusty Spoon. And I will just prepare for spotty service--for good food I can live with that. Thanks all! |

Orlando area top 10 - February 2012 I forgot I had another question--what about Rusty Spoon? Menu looks great! Thoughts between that and Ravenous Pig? |
