Cake to whoopie pie?

I tried a red velvet whoopie pie recipe and it was lacking in flavor so I'd like to use my favorite red velvet cake recipe. When I compare recipes, they are similar but I imagine that the whoopie pie recipe produces a sturdier vessel for the frosting. Does anyone know if I can use a cake recipe for whoopie pies or has had any luck doing this? TIA!

What makes pancakes light/fluffy?

I always use buttermilk and I find that beating the egg whites separately and the folding them into batter helps tremendously.

I know you're not asking for recipes but I've tried them all and am in love with Clinton St. Bakery's pancake recipe.

How do you use white truffle oil?

I drizzle it over pasta with sauteed asparagus, mushrooms and leeks.

Meat Alternative Lean Protiens

I've been trying to do this as well. The bean salads are a great way to incorporate protein and they get better with age. I like to do a nicoise salad with good quality tuna (packed in oil...don't do the packed in water nonsense), stir fries with tofu, this simple but fabulous Cantonese egg with tomato dish...oh, eggs. Argh. I eat a lot of eggs to get my daily protein consumption up but I know you're trying to reduce your animal product intake...

If I feel that I haven't had enough protein then I'll have some Fage yogurt for dessert or incorporate a nut butter into my snack at night.

I tend to get tired of bean salads and end up eating a medium rare burger on the weekends to satisfy by juicy meat craving. Let me know if you come up with any new ideas!

What to do with burnt caramel?

SUCCESS! I made a gelato base using milk, sugar, heavy cream and egg yolks and poured the caramel in while the mixture was almost finished churning. The burnt notes of the caramel weren't as strong when it was combined with the gelato base. I certaintly learned my lesson about the fine art of making caramel!

How do you like your oatmeal?

My mom would stir an egg into my oatmeal and add some sugar when I was little so I do that now. When I make a small portion, I only use the egg white or else it'll be entirely too eggy. Everyone at work finds this strange. Maybe it's an Asian thing...

light dessert needed

Second a pavlova. It's pretty, is so simple to make, impressive looking if it's tall and it can highlight delicious fruit. Be sure to allow enough time for it to bake and cool!

What to do with burnt caramel?

After tasting the caramel on its own for the second time, it didn't taste all that bad. I think it was my initial disappointment that led me to think that it was really burnt as opposed to it just having a slight smokey, bitter flavor. If it were seriously burnt then I would have tossed it.

Update: I followed ChiliDude's advice and added honey to the caramel. It tasted less caramel-y but that mixed with homemade ricotta cut down on the burnt flavor. It was a great midnight snack. My weekend project will be using the caramel in ice cream and per ninrn's suggestion, seeing if it'll taste better mixed in with chocolate. I'll let you all know how it goes! Thanks again for everyone's comments!

What to do with burnt caramel?

Hmmm... you're right. Burnt is burnt. I'm going to give ChiliDude's suggestion a try though and see if that works out. If not then I will be tossing it. Thanks for everyone's insight!

What to do with burnt caramel?

I was thinking the same thing but what about burnt caramel ice cream and creme brulee? They have slight burnt notes to them...

What to do with burnt caramel?

I tried making salted caramel this weekend and I burned it! The texture and consistency is fine but it just tastes slightly burnt...well, more than slightly...a lot burnt. I'm hoping that I don't have to ditch it and can use it in a salted caramel banana pudding pie or swirled in homemade vanilla ice cream. Any ideas as to what I can do with it or should I just chalk it up a lesson learned in making caramel? Thanks!

HELP! I used pumpkin pie filling instead of pumpkin

I made a pumpkin cobbler last night and didn't realize that I bought pumpkin pie filling until it was in the oven. I tried a bite and it is almost inedibly sweet. What can I do to salvage the dessert? I don't have time to make another one. Thank you!

Dessert Truck

I tried the chocolate bread pudding and it was heavenly but dare I say it, too chocolatey? I wish there was more bread involved so it didn't seem like I was just eating a ton of chocolate at the end. The molten cake is amazing!

ITA: the cake part was too dry and the frosting was not good enough to compensate for the dry cake.

Wait times at Degustation

I agree as well. I had an 8:00 reservation, waited for about 15 minutes, tried the 10 course tasting menu and left at 11pm. My meal there is by far one of my top 5 meals I've ever had.

Has anyone ordered a cake from sugar sweet sunshine ?

The best red velvet cake is from Pinisi's in the East Village. I believe it's on 4th between 1st and 2nd ave. I had the red velvet cupcake and convinced my roommate to get the cake for her dad's birthday and the cake it just as amazing and moist!

New to Fage

I love my Fage with peanut butter, unsweetened cocoa, a little bit of Splenda and crushed graham crackers. I wish it weren't so expensive though!

Dim Sum Disaster

The best dim sum that I've had was at China Garden in Rosslyn. I've tried Fortune and Mark's Duck House and have found that China Garden has by far, superior dim sum than the rest. It serves traditional Cantonese dim sum so the shu mai and cha siu baos are excellent. Also, there are a ton of Asians eating there so that's always a good sign!

Fuji in Shrewsbury

I've been to Fuji a few times this month and the owners are still the same. Jenny, the owner, is still there. I think the sushi chefs are the same (but I don't usually notice these things). I have noticed though that there are more sushi special rolls and they're really good. The Summer Roll is great since I love any kind of sushi that has mango in it.

I wonder when the new restaurant across the street will open up? Has anyone looked in it yet to see if it's almost ready?
