Fresh Mussels

Can anyone recommend a good place to buy fresh mussels in Queens?? Most of the fish markets have their two pound bags of PEI mussels but the mussels are usually very tiny and not at all like the mussels that you order in restaurants.

2nd Best on Metropolitan Avenue

My cousin wants to explore Metropolitan Avenue and we have already done Danny Brown (loved it!!), what is our second stop????

Best Northern Italian in Queens

I am missing the late great Altadonna and was wondering if any of you Chowhounders know of a reasonible substitue? Please not L'Incontro in Astoria.

Fish markets in Queens

I second Park's at Willets Point Blvd. Asked the same question of Chowhounders several months ago and was told about Parks. I have been a regular since then. Also open on Sundays which is a plus for me

Garfield's?

Well I qualify for the over 50 and life long New Yorker and I remember going to Garfield's (my friend's uncle owned it) and that other great cafeteria, Dubrow's on Eastern Parkway. Those were the days - I don't think anything like that exists anymore.

Suggestions for restaurants that deliver to Flushing

My mom lives a block from you and we order from Phil & Sons on Main Street. It's a pizza place but has decent pasta dishes. Also, I am not sure if they go that far but I live up Kissena Blvd and get delivery from Kyoto Sushi on Union Turnpike. They take credit cards but not sure if over the phone is an issue.

Any good Turkish food in Queens???

My cousin and a friend are coming in from Pennsylvania and the friend is seriously into Turkish cusine. Unfortunately I know absolutely nothing about this type of food. Does anyone have a suggestion??

Best Phillipine in Queens

One of my co-workers (from the Phillipines) brought in food this week from Jersey City. BBQ and little custard pies to die for. Hate to travel all the way to Jersey, so any suggestions for a close to home (Queens) take-out?

Cake Box in Bay Terrace - R.I.P.

They sold the name to a few different bakeries. The original owners were gone many years ago and I tried the one on Queens Blvd too - gag. Didn't last very long nor did the other one up Kissena Blvd. Like the reborn Ebbinger's - same box and everything else different.

Cake Box in Bay Terrace - R.I.P.

Not too surprised about Cake Box closing. I bought cakes there last Thanksgiving for a family dinner and was totally embarrassed. Just horrible. I can't even begin to explain what they tasted like. But going down memory lane, my favorite bakery was Lorabee's on Kissena Blvd. in the 80's. I still dream of a Scotch coffee cake that they made and wish I knew how to make it. Of course in those days, I could eat the whole thing and not gain a pound.

Best pizza in queens??

I haven't thought about Gloria's in years. Yes, it is the pizza I compare all pizza to (at least in my mind). I can remember the crowd's being three deep waiting for a new pie to come out of the oven and the girl behind the counter sliding a piece to me because I was a very regular customer.

Queens Dim Sum with accessible parking?

Dear Byryn-Thank you thank you for your incredibly well thought out list. Took Mom to East Manor today and parking was still a little problem but we left full and happy.

Queens Dim Sum with accessible parking?

Is there any Dim Sum that you would recommend that has accessible parking. My mom is elderly and handicapped and Main Street is just too hard to get around. We were going to Silver Pond on Main Street for years until its recent closing (what's that about??). Thanks for any advice.

Altadonna in Little Neck

Hi. Have you been to Livorna lately? I wanted to try it but could not find a listing. Restaurants seems to come and go overnight.

Fish Store in Queens??

Thanks everyone. I am definitely going to try Park's. Do you know if they are open on Sunday??

Fish Store in Queens??

Does anyone have a good recomendation for an excellent Fish market in Queens? Would prefer the Flushing-Bayside area.

Altadonna in Little Neck

Does anyone know what happened to Altadonna in Little Neck?? It was absolutely my favorite Italian and now it looks like it is under construction but there aren't any signs and the awning was still up the last time I went by.
