Reporting back from food trip in Austin

Just got back from Austin and what an amazing trip. We have fallen in love with your city. Such a great place to visit. Everyone was nice and helpful. We enjoyed touring your city and all the little neighborhoods within. Thanks for a great week and we hope to be back again in the near future. Now to the food report. One of the best food experiences we have ever had. Everyone from this forum was right on with the recommendations and I can honestly say we did not have one bad meal. Some places better than others but overall it was truly unique and special. Thanks again.

Friday
Cafe Medici-perfect espresso and latte. Highly recommend
La Condesa- beet salad with fennel and chili lime jam, aguachile made up of halibut-perfect light meal
Uchiko-yokai berry, Hama chili, brussel sprouts, ao saba, sweet corn sorbet for ending-probably one
of the best food experiences I have ever had. The service was incredible and every course
was simple innovative, clean and completely confusing. You will taste combos that you would
think never work but they end up exploding with unbelievable flavors. Just go and be ready
to spend money and have fun. I can't say enough.
Saturday
Olivia brunch-summer veggie quiche and pork belly slider-good meal but probably would rather try
dinner. Quiche was light, fluffy with excellent crust. Sliders seemed a little heavy but maybe
that's just my preference. Overall good but not excellent.
Swifts attic-great beer selection, grilled kale ceaser with whole sardine, excellent dish. Twice cooked
duck wings, edamame with chili and salt pop rocks! Ended with popcorn and a movie.
Great dessert and it grew on me with every bite. I just wanted more and more at the end.
Overall it was good but needs a little improvement with execution. I would try it again.
Great ambiance.
Sunday
Foreign and domestic-brunch was excellent. I highly recommend going. BLT with egg was superb
and farmhouse scramble was also executed at a high level. I mean how good can
breakfast really get, damn good.... Eclectic neighborhood and with cool vibe. I enjoyed it and
wish I would of went for dinner.
Olive and June-such a great deal. $35 pre fix meal with multiple courses. Great tasting food that is
served family style. Cocktails and drinks are half off during happy hour. clean innovative
food that anyone would enjoy.
Monday
Patikas for coffee and espresso. Awesome
Barley swine-goat neck with quinoa, beef tongue, chicken fried pig face patty, grilled lamb with grapes
and dessert was a Swiss Cake roll. Once again a home run. Every course was excellent
and I can say enough about the owner Bryce Gilmore. He is truly amazing and every dish is
inspected by him before it goes out. If you go sit at the bar and watch the guys work. Just
amazing. Please go....
Tuesday
Mozarts- great coffee and atmosphere
Perlas-went for lunch and enjoyed. I had the red snapper with spinach. Simple and clean.
Lenoir-one great night. Prefix menu and every course was perfect. Great wine list. Had the heirloom
tomato salad, crispy goat and buttermilk pie with blackberries. Excellent and great service.
Wednesday
Elizabeths Cafe for lunch-French Vietnamese food. Pho was top notch and fresh rolls are as good as
anything I have had in LA. Great find that a local told us about.
Gourdough-went after elizabeths because we had too. It was right next door. Perfect donut, brown
sugar and cinnamon.
Uchi-Great meal but I would prefer Uchiko. Very similar.
Thursday
Franks-had coffee and cortado. Great cortado.
Wink-it was a good meal. However, I would rather go to the ones above. I found the server
pretentious and the meal was way over priced. I paid $16 for a beet salad. I should know better
but I love beet salads and thought it would great. I had a flank steak with a quail egg on top and
it was good but forgettable. Overall, didn't like the service and food was good but not like the
others
Thanks Austin for a great trip. You are the coolest hottest city in the U S of A.
