Duda's in Fells Point

I'm familiar…just wanted to know where better bar food in fells is!

Eola vs. Fiola

Eola

Like what?

Fiola and Elisir - Lunch vs. Dinner - any experiences?

I think you made the right choice with Fiola as a lunch destination. We had a really nice meal there, but it is excessively expensive for the level of food. Based on your experience with Italian restaurants, I think you might be disappointed if you went for dinner.

Food Lover's Guide to Baltimore

Lamill is in the new Four Seasons hotel in harbor east.

I know what you mean at Spro...talk about a group of surly hipsters who believe they are doing you a favor by serving you coffee in a coffee shop! From the top down, it's really not surprising though.

I think Lamill is better and doesn't have the attitude.

Food Lover's Guide to Baltimore

Lamill and Spro both make very respectable cups of coffee, but you'll pay for it.

A couple of the better soft shell sandwiches I've had came from Kislings and Dudas. The simpler, the better...and they are both "Old school B'more" in a sense.

Heading back to Philadelphia, tweaking the agenda.

Did you get up charged? I have a hard time believing both would be the same price?!?!

Palena vs. Palena Cafe.

Good choice. Dinner in the dining room at Palena is on a very different level than dinner at Birch and Barley.

Food Lover's Guide to Baltimore

fwiw, I went to MD today and can say the pho wasn't microwaved.

Delicious as always

Palena vs. Palena Cafe.

They are very different, in all the ways that you mentioned. Although I’m not sure I follow your logic for being able to order the Dining Room items off the Café menu…I don’t see much overlap there.

The dining room is very formal, fine dining-esque and service that is much more refined. The café is far more “bistro like”. Amuses, Mignardises, bread service, are all attributes of the dining room which do not exist in the café.

Restaurant Eve Tasting Room - 2 Separate Tables for Party of 4?

That seems very odd, I would call back and see if someone else could be more helpful.

Fiola and Elisir - Lunch vs. Dinner - any experiences?

No, they just gouge prices!

Too bad I'll be in Chicago when you're in town...would love to hear the story!

Fiola and Elisir - Lunch vs. Dinner - any experiences?

I think you would enjoy the dining room at Palena far more than Birch and Barley.

The best part about my meal at B&B was the beer pairing. While the food was good, it's not even close really to Palena...especially considering your affinity for pasta courses.

Also, for kicks, I'll suggest Eola. I had two very memorable pasta dishes there and a pork belly dish that was second to none.

Fiola and Elisir - Lunch vs. Dinner - any experiences?

I feel passionately about Next the way you do about minibar. In both cases, the experience probably trumps our vindictive ways, but sometimes that's just tough to get past, so I understand your frustration.

Food Lover's Guide to Baltimore

My understanding is that the noodles are precooked and kept either cold or at room temp before hot broth is poured on top. The whole thing is microwaved and the heat of the broth is then at the point where raw meat is cooked by being submerged.

Fiola and Elisir - Lunch vs. Dinner - any experiences?

It was an attempt at humor, Mike!

What else is on the agenda for your trip? Were you able to secure a seat at Minibar this time aorund?

Food Lover's Guide to Baltimore

Mekong Delta nukes your pho before it comes to the table...doesn't make it any less delicious.

Fiola and Elisir - Lunch vs. Dinner - any experiences?

Mike, welcome home!

I'm heading to Fiola next week for dinner and will report back. Haven't heard a whole lot on here about either...I think everyone's minding their P's and Q's so they can continue to get a table!

Food Lover's Guide to Baltimore

I don't think their food is worth it, even if you don't wait!

Jimmy's should be on the list instead!

Reservations for Schwa?

It's all part of the show!

Baltimore Courthouse Halal truck

I don't, but I did have a combo over rice today that was delicious!

You're welcome in advance for the unhelpful post.

Best Crab Deals/specials in Baltimore

Crab specials this time of year are few and far between! If any exist at a reputable place, I don't know about them.

Pizza in Baltimore

"If you put a turd in an oven and cook it in three minutes, you have something that is quickly cooked...but it's sill a turd."

Maybe the greatest line I have ever read on Chowhound! What are your thoughts on Joe Squared? I feel like they have all the pieces of the puzzle, including the quick cook time, but seem to over complicate things.

Harris Teeter in Locust Point

I agree as well! I've been most impressed with their meat and fish counter...very nice product as a reasonable price.

What's up with the checkout situation? Is there a store that does it more inefficiently than HT?

Interesting places in Dunloring/Fairfax/Tyson's Corner

While the food actually wasn't too bad at Vienna Inn, the place is an absolute hole. I've been to a lot of dumps, but that one takes the cake. The place feels like it's being held together with 10 yr old duct tape!

Maple Ave. is very nice and quite interesting. As far as being in Vienna and not eating ethnically, it's a very good option!

Philly hound needs Baltimore suggestions

Restaurant prices in Baltimore are very comparable, if not more expensive, than most places in Philly, BYOB included. If that's your comparison for BYOBs charging more, I'm not sure what you are referring to. If you believe the level of food you are getting at BYOBs in Philly is of lesser quality, I'm also not sure what you are talking about. Have you been to Bibou, Modo Mio, Matyson, Farm and Fisherman, Meme, or Melograno? Where is that level of food being served in Baltimore on a regular basis? Maybe Salt, Woodberry, Peters? I love all three of those places, but it’s not a fair comparison!

I will also completely disagree with your assessment of Philly's Chinatown. Sang Kee, Yakitori Boy, Szechuan Tasty House, Han Dynasty, Shiao Lun Kung, Rangoon and countless others that I don't even know the name of are collectively a far better and more exciting group of restaurants than Grace Garden. Again, I LOVE Grace Garden, but it's just not fair to compare 1 to 100.

I will also throw it out there that, on top of doc’s correct assessment of better hoagies, cheesesteaks and pork sandwiches, Philly has a much more exciting and superior pizza scene.

Philly hound needs Baltimore suggestions

While I don't completely disagree with what you're getting at, I will say there is a major consistency problem across all of Baltimore. Even at my favorite places in Bmore I have had mediocre to bad meals. I also think that it's a very tough comparison because of the sheer volume of restaurants in Philly versus Baltimore...Philly is three times the size of Baltimore.

They BYOB thing, which you mentioned, is a HUGE difference and one that completely tips the scale, in my opinion. And if you don't believe it does, then I think Chinatown puts it way over the edge.

I love Baltimore and all it has to offer, but don't really think this one's a fair fight!

Driving from DC to Philadelphia

If you start splitting hairs, there are better versions in the area, but they make a perfectly acceptable pit beef!

Thousand Kabobs - new Pakistani kabobs and more at 218 N. Liberty in Baltimore

I found myself in a very similar situation yesterday, with Mekong Delta closed, and also ended up at 1000 Kabobs. I had the chicken seekh which was very good but I was disappointed it was not served with rice, chickpeas, or salad I’ve become accustomed to...just some fried onions and peppers plus a fresh baked naan.

Others in the group got the biryani, which I didn't try but received mixed reviews, the haleem, which received very good reviews, and another chicken dish that I don't recall but also received high praise. I'll make a return visit soon, but probably won't get the kabob again.

Five Guys vs. In-N-Out? [moved from Los Angeles board]

There's a Fatburger in Columbia, MD!
