Dinner recommendation 1night in Atlanta- trying to be specific

I had seen some of them. Nothing is jumping out at me. I thought Holeman and Finch looked interesting but seems like the highlight there is the burger. Also wasn't sure about the atmosphere on a Sunday night. Is there a street/area of Atlanta with an emerging restaurant/night life scene?

Is there anywhere in specific you recommend that would meet most of what we are looking for??

Thanks!!

Dinner recommendation 1night in Atlanta- trying to be specific

Hi,

My wife and I are in town for an event and have one free dinner. We are staying at the W in Buckhead. Below is what we are hoping to find:

- We are professionals in our early 30s. somewhere that is fun/lively for people in our age group.

- will have atmosphere/be busy on a sunday night.

- experience local cuisine or local to this part of the Country. (we are from Toronto). FYI- heading to New Orleans from Atlanta.

- Price is not really an issue but doesn't need to be $$$$. Care more about the type and quality of the food and the atmosphere.

-We have a car but somewhere close to where we are staying would be preferable.

- Patio would be nice option if it stays warm enough by mid October.

Thanks!!

Are they both known for their Gumbo and Poboy? I have seen Liuzza's referenced for both foods a few different times. Always assumed it was only 1 restaurant.

Is there two Liuzza's? Showing up on Google as Liuzza's Restaurant on Bienville and Liuzza's by the Track on N Lopez. I assume you and others are referencing the By the Track location?

Thanks for all the help.

Decided to make a reso at Cochon. Seems like a safe bet considering all great reviews.

My only question is is it similar to Coquette? We would be going the night after Cochon.

Breakfast: Elizabeths, Surrey's,

Lunch: killer poboy, Cochin butcher,

HH: Luke, 3 muses

Dinner: Cochin, Bacchanal, Coquette.

I wasn't looking for cheap or "Bourbon Street Crowd" type place. just something not fine dining with waiters in bow ties. Price isn't the concern. Galatoire's/Arnaud's looked good just a little old for us.

Maybe i am over thinking it.

that's great, thank you.

I checked out the restaurants you suggested and I don't think I am asking the right question for what I am looking for.

When I say classic/traditional food, I am more talking about the creole/New Orleans style food than the "traditional" restaurant. These places all seem to be higher end/fine dine dining.

Are there places where we can have this type (Gumbo, Jambalaya, shrimp rémoulade, creole, ...) of food but in a less formall/hip env't?

I think we will be going to Bacchanal and Coquette for other two meals.

I probably should have asked this in my previous post. Is mid- October patio season?

Bacchanal looks great- my only concern is that it looks really casual and they don't take reservations.

If we did Bacchanal and Coquette what would be a good 3rd? Seems like we are missing a "traditional/classic" New Orleans dinner.

I think Luke for Happy Hour is a great idea.

Thanks for all the helpful advice. So much to consider!

Slowly narrowing down our choices and what we are looking for.

Still struggling with dinners. A lot of the restaurants look great but seem to have fine dining atmospheres. We are in our early 30s and would prefer fun/lively restaurants with great food.

We would also like to have 3 different types of experiences including 1 “classic Creole” New Orleans dinner. Maybe 1 dinner on a patio in a fun area.

Dinners
Cochon- probably do Butcher for lunch.
Coquette
Luke
Emeril’s

Snack or lunch
Cochon Buthcer
Café Du Monde- snack
Killer Poboy
Domenica
American Sector?
Café Amelie?
Acme- is this a good place for Oysters- snack?
The Joint

Breakfast:
Elizabeth’s
Stanley’s
Surreys
?
Is there somewhere near our hotel that has a nice patio and good food? Conti/Royal

Hi Bill. thanks for advice. will check out your recommendations. What about the restaurants you see on shows like dinners/drive ins/dives - seafood joints along the coast?

Will be avoiding Waffle House!

Thanks! Cafe Du Monde sounds like a great snack option!

Elizabeth's or Stanleys? looks like a nice walk to Elizabeth's. I have already committed to the 4th day in NOLA. seems like we are going to need it.

I will probably ask some more questions once I have time digest/research yours and Karendor's comments.

Much appreciated!

Also, advice on drinks afternoon/night would be great!

June Shanghai itinerary (in progress...)

If you are going to watch sunrise from lions peak or one of the other popular spots, i suggest you get there really early. gets pretty busy and it is no fun standing in the back.

June Shanghai itinerary (in progress...)

Wont be much help food wise but thought I would give you my 2 cents on Huangshan. We did not do any research on food for this area and were generally disappointed where we ate.

Huangshan- bused from Hangzhou to Tangkuo. Spent night in Tangkuo. Next day and night on Yellow Mountain. Following morning, private car to Tunxi via Hongcun village and bamboo forest:

Tangkuo: Stay near bus terminal. We stayed at The Tangkuo Hotel about 20 minutes walk along 2 lane highway with no lights. We could not get taxi at night to take us to central area or back to our hotel. All restaurants were in hotel lobbies and did not look appealing. IMO, only reason to stay here is for early start up mountain.

Huangshan- Stayed overnight on Mountain. Not necessary but was well worth it for us as we saw sunrise. One of the top highlights of our trip to China. There may be long lines for tram. Our hotel had decent food for being on top of mountain (Shilin Hotel)

Tunxi- Private driver took us to Hongcun and bamboo forest on way to tunxi. It was approx $50 US dollars and well worth it. We really enjoyed both these places and the drive. We were only in Tunxi for about 2 hours. Was enough to eat dinner and see old street/town. Not sure what else there is to do in Tunxi.

Shanghai- Really enjoyed Yangs, thought JJTB was just okay. I found the crab to be overpowering. We really enjoyed Din tai Fung and Mr and Mrs Bund.
