Evidently our "Community Manager" has been called away from the discussion.

By the way, those questions are not rhetorical.

You're saying that simply mentioning a rating in a post, even if that rating is an "A" means certain deletion?

What about critical comments regarding food quality, cleanliness of the premises and staff, variety of insect species (on and off the menu), or the habits of neighborhood residents?

May I say that Elizabeth Street smells bad in July? Or that the aluminum foil at Grey's Papaya needs replacing, or must that information be suppressed? Please be specific.

I just posted 3 specific questions to the "Team". I don't think your reply answers any of them.

Posts that focus on a topic, or posts that simply include objective information about a restaurant's location, condition, or signage?

My original post was deleted simply because it mentioned that a restaurant posted a C from the NY authorities in its window. What if I'd said it'd gone down from an A to a B? At what point in the alphabet does this public information become so sensitive it must be deleted?

JV is right. Your language is vague, and the CH Team interference is arbitrary and inconsistent.

"Who do you follow?" threads [split from Manhattan]

I am disappointed by the intrusiveness of the "Chowhound Team" on this topic, but not surprised.

The more I learn about this site, the less I like it.

"Area"? What area is that? Do you mean topic?

As someone who's lived in a bad neighborhood, I'm afraid I disagree with everything you say, whether it's the appropriateness of describing a neighborhood, the race thing, or your point about "consensus".

You seem to think you're something of an expert at deciding what's appropriate on CH or not. What qualifies you for this? And who is "we"?

Why would someone volunteer to make this a less interesting site?

The deleted post was not about the Health Dept. rating. It included that information, but the subject was simply a request for info from other CHers who might've been there recently.

Who even said it was a low score? And at what exact point in the alphabet does this public information become censorable?

...deleted a post inquiring about an NYC restaurant simply because it included the restaurant's Health Department rating, which as every New Yorker knows is conspicuously displayed in every restaurant's front window.

I think this is overdoing it, and the post should stand.

Celebrity chef - whose got the best restaurant?

Guy Fieri's place in Times Square sounds perfect for you.

Enjoy!

Are there Safe Shrimp?

You probably should be worried.

I don't think shrimp in any form can be considered either safe or sustainable anymore.

Antibiotics aside, farmed shrimp in the US and abroad pose serious environmental problems because they eat food made from juvenile finfish (possibly the most wasteful use of marine resources imaginable), and because their waste is toxic.

And wild shrimp still extract a massive toll from the environment, both from "bycatch" (of the afformentioned juvenile finfish) and trawling-related trauma to the sea bed.

If I lived in southern Louisiana and I could buy real wild shrimp fresh off a boat I might feel differently, but the reality for most of us is a frozen, chemically compromised crustacean with dubious environmental credentials.

Okay, tilapia's off the menu...any recommendable substitutes?

Seafood Watch is not a reliable source. Almost all of their "Good Alternative" suggestions belong in the "Avoid" column.

Relying on the MBA for seafood advice is like asking Sea World how to protect Orcas.

What's up with Tilapia?!

But you haven't done any research! I don't think you've even read the articles you posted!

And you use quotation marks for words like "interesting" and "know".

Do you even understand what quotation marks imply?

What's up with Tilapia?!

...and "Dr. Axe", the author is a chiropractor!

For Pete's sake!

What's up with Tilapia?!

Bad article. Sloppy, distorted, and wildly inaccurate.

Shame on you.

Bouchot mussels. Where to buy them?

While real Bouchot messels are farmed, farmed mussels cultivated anywhere but Mont St. Michel in France are not Bouchot mussels. It's a matter of "terroir".

Di Fara Pizza HORRIBLE

Bummer. How much did it cost?

Your Favorite Cheap Pasta is...

Mount Qi Pork Noodles, Xi'an, $6.50.

Oysters

If your serious, go to Belon.

Oysters taste like where they came from, and a "Belon" (Ostrea Edulis) cultivated in the US will taste pretty much the same as a regular oyster (Crassostrea Virginica) grown in the same waters.

Even most FRENCH (your emphasis) Edulis oysters don't come from Belon.

While you're on the East Coast, just stick with Virginica.

Bouchot mussels. Where to buy them?

What cookbooks? And what recipes?

Regardless of how they're cultured, PEI and bouchot are both edulis...the same species.

Bouchot mussels are cultivated in France, and I don't think you can buy them in NYC.
