Lakefront Dining in Dallas
The weather is getting so nice and I'm looking for a nice outdorr spot but don't know where to go in Dallas. Could anyone recommend places with lakefront/waterfront dining in the Dallas area with chowhound worthy atmosphere/food? I've eaten at the Oasis on Joe Pool lake and that was awful! Salty sides and overcooked catfish-gross.
San Antonio: Cheap, local Mexican
What! If you're in the Medical area, Martha's on Babcock and Huebner has $5.00 lunch menu, $6.00 for Chicken Fried Steak topped with queso.
And if you want to see some locals, hit up Chacho's on I-10 and Callaghan. They will sell you more food that you'll ever believe. The Full order of King Kong Nacho's is the size of a large pizza and staked up 6 inches. They have decent cheap margaritas, lots of fresh ingredients. The black bean entrees are the best.
Party Room for 20 in Addison off Belt Line???
I'm organizing a dinner for 20 and I'm looking for a nicer restaurant in Addison preferably off Belt Line with a party room for private dining. Looking through the boards, I've seen some recommednations for Trulucks, Mi Piaci and Houston's. I was hoping someone could recommend some other places or share their experience at Trulucks or Mi Piaci. Any suggestions for vegetarians would be especially great as my party is not all carniovorous. Thanks!
Alamo Cafe (San Antonio), home of the worst cfs in Texas
I second Tip-Top Cafe, bring cash, I don't think they take Credit Card.
Visit to San Antonio - restaurant suggestions? [moved from the Austin board]
I think there is a lot of good food within either walking or by trolley from the Riverwalk.
I got 4 suggestions
Schilos
Guenther House
Casa Rio
Mi Tierra
Schilo's a german deli is 1 blocks south of the Alamo. It's an awesome place for lunch. For $5-10 you can get homemade rootbeer, sausage, german potato salad, amazing deserts and my favorite is the meatloaf platter. It's usually packed with both downtown workers and tourists. You can find the TNT Basketball Cameramen eating there on gamedays for the Spurs.
Guenther House is a terrific place for breakfast/brunch. It's in the King William District south of Downtown which is full of beautiful historic homes from the 1900's. It's currently a hot place for modern art galleries too. The Guenther House is a stately, historic house that overlooks the river as it makes it way south from downtown. Next door is the Pioneer foods silo where they make the Pioneer Gravy packets. Needless to say, the have awesome Biscuits and Gravy. They serve biscuits and gravy with fresh fruits on the side (canaloupe, berries, strawberries, grapes). While you wait to eat, you can check out the cooking shop in the Guenther house where you can buy all kings of unique texas backing tools (alamo cookie cutters, aprons, bundt pans) and cookbooks.
If you're looking for mexican food, I love Casa Rio. It's on the Rivewalk but away from the noise and traffic of the mall, bourdro's, and all that other junk. It's a quiet family run place with the most reasonable prices and authentic food on the Riverwalk. The inside isn't much to look at so I recommend eating outside on the patio overlooking the Riverwalk. Dinner or lunch will run you $5-15 per person.
Or if you're lucky, there will be street food vendor's in the Market Square. You can beat a puffy taco, or fresh taco al carbon from a street vendor. The Market Square is very easy to access, it'll be 5 minutes by trolley from the Riverwalk. Mi Tierra is a great place to eat. Very touristy but the food is great. They have a bakery for your sweettooth if you're craving some pumpkin empanadas. The best part it that his place is up 24hours so if you want a heaping bowl of tortilla soup, menudo or enchilada, it's your place.
Best Burger In Dallas/Fort Worth
The Burger Box is a pretty good, standard greasy burger.
If you had to choose between Keller's and Burger Box go to Keller's I think the fries and onion rings are better there and you've got a larger variety of burger styles to choose from.
FW Stockyards eats
Joe T Garcia's has excellent mexican food
Riscky's BBQ has all you can eat beef ribs, it's family friendly and always good.
Taco Question - DFW
If you're back in San Antonio, a good time to catch them is on First Friday in the King William district, or at any event during Fiesta.
Taco Question - DFW
Trevinos? I thought Henry's Puffy Taco in San Antonio was the original puffy taco. The San Antonio baseball team's mascot is named Henry the Puffy Taco. That puffy taco is amazing though. What I've noticed even in San Antonio is that no two puffy taco's are the same. My favorite puffy tacos are from the street vendors.
Dallas under $5
McCormick and Schmidt's has an awesome happy hour and reverse happy hour food menu in the bar. For $2 you can get a giant burger and fries or for $4 get fish tacos and beans. All of the food is under $4 and they offer calamari, fried pickles, pizza, quesdillas, sweet potato fries and gumbo. You can have a mini feast. The catch is you just have to buy a drink whether it's a coke, lone star or a martini.
Best Chicken Dish/Fried Chicken/Rotisserie in D/FW
Babe's in Roanoke is the original Babe's I think. Anyway, it's got the best Fried Chicken and Chicken Fried Steak anywhere. It's almost out in the country and it's got a real country roadhouse feel. It's BYOB and all the furniture looks like it come out of an antique mall. For $10 you either 1/4 of a chicken all fried or a giant chicken fried steak with all you can eat mashed potatoes, creamed corn, biscuits and salad. Nice weather can bring long waits, but it's worth it. But hey, if you've got a cooler and don't mind chatting with the locals, it's a great time.
Best Soup/Chowder/Stew/Bisque in D/FW
I know's it not a local thing but the Tortilla Soup at Pappasito's is to die for. It's a huge bowl and it's got the perfect blend of chicken, veggies, tortilla chips and fresh avocado's.
Dallas under $5
Not exactly $5 bucks but, $5.50 for the Deperado Taco plate on Thursdays at Desperado's on Greenville south of Lover's. Get the beef, the chicken wasn't so good.
Biscuits 'n Gravy
Barbec's by White Rock Lake is the bomb. Beer biscuits and rib-sticking gravy are a must have for hangovers
