Herbfarm's Beer Bread???

No, but I don't remember the Herbfarm's mix having dill in it. I thought it had poppy seed and was just a bit sweet. Is my memory off?

Herbfarm's Beer Bread???

We used to live about a 1/4 mile from the Herbfarm when it was in Fall City and I LOVED their beer bread mix! I haven't found anything to compare.
I just made a box of the new Krusteaz Beer Bread mix, and I think if you add an extra tablespoon (or so) of sugar and some poppy seeds, it may come close.

Best Dim Sum in the International District?

Hmm... I can do Beacon Hill. I'd like to see the area I grew up in anyway. Thanks!!

I used to live on 23rd and Orcas, so that's quite close too. :)

Best Dim Sum in the International District?

Maybe I'll have to learn to make it myself. I was feeling nostalgic. ;)

Thanks!

Thank you! It doesn't need to be spectacular, just good. Both of those places sound pretty good. :)

Best Dim Sum in the International District?

My son and I are making a trip over to visit my daughter next month. I grew up in Seattle and had dim sum many times at the old Hong Kong, but none since. Son has never experienced dim sum so I figured it's time. I'm wondering who has the good stuff? And....I have a serious craving for shrimp toast, so it would be nice if that was on their menu too. Thanks!

Great thread, I have enjoyed reading part of it this morning and that brought back memories of things I had forgotten about! "Rosebud mints", wow! My list is

Nabisco Bacon Thins and Swiss Cheese Thins crackers. They are still being made in Canada under a different brand name, and I ordered some, but the flavor is weaker somehow, not quite as good.

Pizza Spins and Daisies snacks. Came out the same time as Whistles and Bugles. Back then, I would never eat Bugles, now, that's all you can get. :(

And this one will sound like sacrilege on this forum, but.....Lipton's Beef Stroganoff. This was a package of dried noodles and a sauce mix with little bits of freeze dried beef in it and I though it was the most wonderful thing I'd ever tasted up to that time. I haven't found ANYONE else that's ever heard of the stuff. My best friend's father used to buy us a box now and then, along with boxes of Rice a Roni, which my own parents never bought. I would eat that Beef Stroganoff is it was still available! There is a commercial at the end of this YouTube clip (after you get past the one for "feminine hygiene spray" lol

I remember that sauce, and it was good. :)

In the late 70s I worked in an office on 1st Ave south of Lander, and we went to Andy's often. Always enjoyed the food! I was just a couple days ago thinking about a breaded pork tenderloin sandwich I had there once, and how good it was.

I sure miss the Hong Kong. I used to go there all the time, and it's the first place I ever had dim sum at. Shrimp toast!

It makes me sad every time I drive by there and see the old, empty restaurant.

Advice on charcoal grilling boneless leg of lamb please!

It was wonderful! I marinated it about 12 hours, olive oil, lemon, rosemary, oregano, garlic, salt. Cooked it off to the side from the coals for maybe an hour with the dampers mostly closed then opened everything up and finished it over the coals. It was done a bit more than pink, which is how we like it, but it absolutely ran juices. Excellent! Thanks to everyone for the advice!

Advice on charcoal grilling boneless leg of lamb please!

After seeing grills at Lowes that look like the Starship Enterprise, our Weber looks a little...archaic.

Thanks again :)

Advice on charcoal grilling boneless leg of lamb please!

There are only going to be three of us for Easter dinner, and since I won't have the pickiest of the picky kids here, I'm going to make Greek this year. Lamb, lemony rice pilaf and a huge greek salad.

Trouble is, I've never cooked lamb before. I picked up a boneless leg of lamb at Costco yesterday, it's about 4 1/2#. Is it possible to cut this in half and cook half of it over charcoal without incinerating it, or should I just cook the whole thing and make gyros later?

Thank you!

Old-Fashioned NYC-Style "Cantonese" Chinese-American Food in Seattle?

The last time I was in the South China Cafe I bet was about 1969-1970. My dad used to take us there a lot when I was a child. I wouldn't touch the food for the first few years, they'd order me a hamburger and it would come on white bread with ketchup. :D

When I was a kid growing up on Beacon Hill, there was a wonderful old school Cantonese place called the South China Cafe towards the north end of the hill.

The place is still open but has moved to Bellevue. I haven't been there in many years, so I can't speak for the food, but here's a Yelp review you can look at.

South China Cafe had the best almond chicken, egg foo yung, chow mein. Straight up mid-century Cantonese!!
