Burrata in East Bay???

Does anyone know a store where I can find this fresh mozzarella for home consumption???

Lodi Wine Tasting at Treasure Island--your take?

Who else went to this event yesterday? I don't go to wine tastings of this variety so wondering what other's take was....my thought was it was pretty crowded, but didn't prevent me from tasting all that I was interested in. I did like their wines (lots of zins and cabs, even tasted a tempranillo (?) for the first time). The Blue Angels sure helped with the entertainment portion.

Homemade pizza [moved from SF]

Have you made your own pizza at home (with stone and peel) and what have been your results???

Medjool shrimp with tomato conserva or jam [Moved from San Francisco]

had this Friday and it is out of this world! Perhaps not the right forum on Chowhound (if not direct me kindly) but does anyone know where I might go to find the recipe for this, assuming Medjool is not sharing???? I did already look through the recipe section....thanks.

Good bar near NOPA

having dinner at NOPA but it doesn't open for dinner until 6 p.m. We'll be reaady for a drink (like martinin or some ofther cocktail) @ 5 p.m. Any great ideas nearby?

This Saturday after matinee @ Julia Morgan Theatre: cheap eats + full bar?

La Mediteranee on College is just a couple minutes walk away, but it does not have a full bar. Not much on that part of College does have full bar, it seems. Trattoria Siciliana is also close by, but no bar. Also, they only take cash.

Good Mexican near Lake Merritt?

Yep, Parkway.

Good Mexican near Lake Merritt?

Looking for Mexican place before the Oscars Sunday. MUST HAVE MARGARITAS!!! Don't know the area, so relying on you guys for some great rec's. Thanks.

Breakfast in Walnut Creek area

I would think an upscale locale like WC would have many good breakfast places to choose from besides Hubcaps, Katey's Kreek and a new place that sounds god-awful as it is really toting the "family" atmosphere. Why do you think good breakfast places (as in quality you might find in Berk/Oak) are lacking? It's certainly not because there aren't enough transplants from west of the tunnel.

SF Restaurant Recommendation for 21st Birthday

How about Harry Denton's Starlight Room? It's got a terrific view, pretty decent food (went there more for appetizers and drinks the day after Thanksgiving for the tree lighting at Union Square.) It's night-clubby ( nice for 21 yr old) and adult.

Thoughts on service before you even get to your table...

Small details make a difference from a good experience and a great experience.

I made a last minute reservation on Open Table at a restaurant in Berkeley we'd been to before, Cafe Venezia. We arrived @ 25 min early and were told by the hostess that since we were early, could we please wait a few min.

Fine. The restaurant had at least several open tables and people were waiting, so that is understandable. We sat at the bar--very small space and well within eyesight of the hostess stand. We had mixed drinks, mine a cosmo which the bartender had a little left over. Would've been nice if he would've topped off my drink, which plenty of bartenders do, but this one did not.

That's okay. By this time the waiting area had cleared out, leaving us the only ones in the bar/waiting area. We finished our drinks and it was now 10 min. past our reservation time as I approached the hostess stand.. We finally got seated at a nice window table and had a fine meal served by a good waiter and staff.

your thoughts, quick!

nice restaurant rec's near Cal for post-game. We've been to Oliveto, Trattoria Siciliana, Garibaldi's and love them...what else? Know there are some nice ones on Shattuck. Ideas please...moderate priced welcome!

Mom Treating College Boys

Sounds like fun! And HB in advance. There's a place right on columbus that I've taken my daughter (So Cal student!) which she loves, but can't think of the name (near Rose Pistola a block down...sorry). You might also try North Beach Pizza (no burgers, don't think) or Capp's Corner or Trattoria Contadina. All fun atmosphere and good food, decent prices!

Brunch w/alcohol in Contra Costa

you might try Wc Yacht club. They have a full bar and nice salads etc.

Suggestions for Thanksgiving out in East Bay?

Left Bank in Pleasant Hill has a four course meal for $38 which sounds like a deal to me!

Holiday tea in SF

Last year my 18 yr. old daughter surprised me, taking me to a wonderful tea at Union Square! This year I'd like to make reservations somewhere, but $40 for tea for one? Not to sound cheap, but it's a bit pricey. Great alternative thoughts anyone or is it like fighting city hall?

lunch between museums

DeYoung and Palace of Fine Arts. Usually not in SF for lunch so Nopa, A16 among others is out. We're driving so we can travel to restaurant between museums, and would like something medium priced and probably not asian in nature. Please don't suggest Slanted door. Thoughts?

Rehearsal Dinner in Lafayette or surrounding areas

I thought of Postino too. Lafayette Park Hotel I'm sure can accomodate.

ny hound - has one night - Great food & scene?

I always like Bix on Gold St. near Financial District. 20's/30's feel with the best bartenders who make the best martini. Jazz piano, if not a combo, and last time I was there (last Wed.) there was a decked out couple dancing quite artistically. Oh, and the food is top drawer.

Visiting Manhattan with 19 yr old

daughter. Last visit in 2006 was great--she found a great potsticker place, got recommendation for good Italian, but this trip we want to bypass the Uno Pizza (teenage/convenience lapse) type experience. She doesn't like any fish but does like Indian, Chinese. I'd like to take her to a nice place (last time it was Babbo) but overall keep the budget tighter...we'll travel anywhere in Manhattan if it's really good! Thanks.

Dining Around?

Is there a deal with local restaurants in the East Bay, or something like that? I'm not talking about Gene Burns radio show, but where restaurants offer a special deal. I've been invited to go, but want to know more about program etc. Thanks

Nice reprieve near Fullerton

Visiting my daughter this weekend and would like to take her to a nice place to help pick up her spirits after this week's fires (she's fine but pretty smoked out!). She loves the college basics--a taste for good Mex, Italian and burgers! Thanks for your help out there!

Primo ingredients

Nearly all chefs these days mandate the freshest ingredients in their restaurants, but what about when the best is not available? Case in point: I went to a reknowned place where in the past I've had an excellent caprese salad. This time the tomatos were past their prime and in fact a bit mushy. Now, what is a chef to do when this is on the seasonal menu? Serve it as they did or say "We're all out"?

Napa Valley Breakfast

Didn't receive any replies in time, so I was on my own. NOTHING in St. Helena except a bakery (sorry, don't remember the name but located mid-way up the main drag) which looked nice so we went in as we were short on time. They serve Peets coffee and a variety of pastries etc. but they did have a scrambled egg with canadian bacon and cheddar cheese on a biscuit that came out hot and was really all that I needed before hitting the wineries. Friend had scone and was nonplussed.

Date night recs in Oakland?

Trattoria Siciliana on College near Ashby (cash only!)
Garibaldi's on College near Broadway
Oliveto on College
I guess I only eat on College!!!

Nyc chowhounds need some help

"Depending on the weather" is always a precaution in SF!

Napa Valley Breakfast

help me with recommendations for breakfast prior to winery hopping along the Silverado Trail. We'll be coming up from the BA early Sat. morn and willing to go as far north as St. Helena. Thanks all.

Nyc chowhounds need some help

For a unique lunch, I can't imagine anything better than getting some terrific wine, cheese, baguette and heading off to some scenic bench with a view--on Broadway overlooking the Marina, or at Chrissy Field (near Marina and GG Bridge) or...

Dinner in Mendocino [Moved from San Francisco Bay Area board]

Albion River Inn--terrific view if you get there before dark--but the food accompanied by friendly service and jovial atmosphere is just a terrific way to start a weekend

Italian Sunday Night for My Birthday

Are you sure? I swear I've heard the owners had a place in SF and expanded to East Bay
