Best Cupcakes in RI (Providence area)?

I agree. The Bakery Boutique is okay, but nothing out of the ordinary. Seems pretty expensive for the small sized cupcakes that you get. The owners are super nice, but maybe they expanded too fast?

60th Birthday Suggestions Needed

Thank's Underemployed. It sounds perfect for what I'm looking for. Why is it so hard to find flawless service?? It's really not THAT difficult. Sometimes I think I should have gone into restaurant management.

60th Birthday Suggestions Needed

Thanks for all of your replies. I have already read through the posts on this board and still felt like I needed an additional point in the right direction. For me what makes a meal memorable is a restaurant that it hits all the points - service, food, and atmosphere. A restaurant that you leave and can say everything was perfectly executed. The most memorable meal I have had was a meal in Hawaii at Jean Georges' place overlookng the mountains. The food was spectacular, the atmosphere amazing, and the service was incredible.

I am leaning towards Eleven Madison Park. My brother says it's too stuffy! I want to prove him wrong!

60th Birthday Suggestions Needed

Next month, my family will be celebrating my mother's 60th birthday in NYC. My brother lives in Queens and we travel to the city often to visit him. We mostly dine out at smaller places in the city and don't really go for anything too expensive or fancy. BUT this is my mother's 60th birthday and my brother has spent the past year recovering from cancer. Price and location are not obstacles. We are all adventurous eaters except for my father. I'm hesitant to choose a tasting menu, because my father would probably not be thrilled by half the things on the menu. I don't mind paying a lot of money, but I don't want to pay for my father and have him leave things on the plate. I'm looking for a once in a lifetime food experience.

Romantic in Providence? Help

I'd recomend Gracie's too. Request the private two person table. They will know what you mean when you ask. I've had many memorable meals at this table!

Suggestions for Seafood on Saturday Night

I will be in town for a long weekend beginning on Saturday night. We arrive in the early afternoon on Saturday. I thought I had all of my meals planned, but Saturday night's plans were changed, so I'm stuck. We are thinking seafood and would be looking for something moderately priced ($50 a person for food or around there). We are staying near Central Park South, but we're willing to travel. I'm sorry if this is vague, I am overwhelmed by the choices. Just wondering what people would suggest.

Top 5 Best restaurants in Rhode Island, Not fancy

I agree with your opinions of Ted's. The burgers and onion rings are fine, but everything else was disappointing. Everything on the menu sounded much better than what was actually delivered to my table.

Christmas Eve dinner- Rhode Island

Well, I didn't get my wish for Mumu. But we're not going to the Twin Oaks. It's off to Trio in Narragansett.

Top 5 Best restaurants in Rhode Island, Not fancy

I think there are some good suggestions here, but I would add D. Carlo in Smithfield. I have never had a bad meal here. Anything is good - pizza to sandwiches, pasta to fish. The atmosphere is casual.

Christmas Eve dinner- Rhode Island

We are always looking for somplace to go on Christmas Eve ourselves. Grandma always insists on the Twin Oaks, and they are very good to us, but I think they might only be open until 8? I did read somewhere that Pan E Vino is going to be open. I was pushing for Mu Mu, but I was met with horrified looks.

best seafood in providence

I always forget about the Oyster Bar. It's decent. Nothing that blew me away, but lots of fresh fish options.

best seafood in providence

I can't think of a place that is specifically seafood, but I've found the fish entrees at Chez Pascal to be about the best in the city. I would have recommended Mill's Tavern too, but it's been hit or miss there lately.

Has anyone tried Cancun Mexican Rest. in Johnston, RI?

I've been by Cancun a number of times, but since I haven't heard of anyone who has been there, I am a little nervous about trying it. But in the scheme of RI Mexican restaurants, how bad could it be?

Best-Coolest Restaurant in Providence

I'm not sure I would go with cool for Capriccio's, but it's got that old school charm thing.

Blaze Brunch - Providence

Blaze on Hope Street is now serving a buffet brunch on Sundays from 10-2. I tried it out yesterday and overall it was very good. I have to admit that when we walked in and I saw what was on the buffet, I wasn't impressed. But after sampling everything, there was only one dish (huevos rancheros) that I really didn't care for, not because it tasted bad, but because it had sat out too long. Our favorite item was the eggs benedict made with cornbread, pulled pork, and a chipotile hollendaise sauce. I wish I could have smuggled some home to have for lunch today. Everything else was really good too. Even the fruit with chantilly cream. Dessert was bite sized helpings for the delicious Blaze cakes. We liked the coconut cake so much that they brought our table a whole plate of just that. It's $15.95 per person, and I'm not sure it's quite worth that, but then again I was so stuffed I couldn't eat for the rest of the day. It's definitely worth checking out sometime!

Broadway Bistro, Providence (review)

I was there about a month ago on a Saturday night and we were the only people in the restaurant. We loved it and want to go back sometime. It's wild that a place like this of such high quality and reasonable value gets no customers on a Saturday night, while people wait 2 hours to get into the Cheesecake Factory or the wretched Fire and Ice.

Tortilla Flats Providence

Yes, really bad food. Even the salsa is pretty bad and they charge extra for it. What kind of Mexican place doesn't offer free chips and salsa? I usually stick to Mexican beer and the burritos which are at least edible. A few Modelo Especials and you can forget the rest.

Prov - Nero's Oak Restaurant (review)

Do you know if they are still serving brunch? Oak used to be one of my favorite brunch spots, but the food had turned so terrible that I haven't been in a long time. Seriously, how can you mess up brunch that bad?

Foxwoods Sunday Brunch

I'm meeting friends at Foxwoods in a few weeks. When we met there before, they had a decent Sunday Champagne Brunch. I can't find it on their website. Does anyone know if it still exists? Thanks!

Dinner near VMA in Providence

Temple's food has been hit or miss for me. Just stick to simple things. The roasted beet salad is one of my favorite things there and it's always good. The atmosphere is nice, and the prices aren't outrageous. The Cheesecake Factory is okay for some appetizers and split a piece of cheesecake for dessert.

Dinner near VMA in Providence

Considering the weather is supposed to be awful, I would see if I could get a reservation at Temple. It wouldn't be my top choice, but you can't beat the convenience to Vets.

Providence- Please help me decide

If you're planning Siena for a backup on Saturday night, make a reservation. They tend to book up fast.

Pastiche has excellent pastries, but I think they're somewhat overpriced. On a nice evening, we like to get desserts at the outside tables at Cafe La Dolce Vita.

I just ate for the first time at the Broadway Bistro this weekend and it was awesome. You will love it.

It does make me laugh that you call "Thayer" the ghetto. I know what you mean, but I think there are worse places . . . :-)

Providence- Please help me decide

Hemenway's is a hit or miss sort of place. Sometimes it's excellent, sometimes it's just eh. I eat there often for business and I never know what to expect. I am a big fan of Pane E Vino. It's consistently good, and the waitstaff is well trained. I like Nick's much better for brunch than Julian's. I would try to get there early and if the weather nice, waiting outside isn't bad.

Oak in Providence

I think the problem with Hemenway's is that it is inconsistant. I've had some great meals there, and some awful ones. I was there for business in the spring and it was so awful, I swore I would never go back. Seriously bad food and seriously bad service. McCormick and Scmick's is usually consistently okay. I'm not blown away, but the fish is fresh and well prepared. I had a really good albacore tuna at Chez Pascal last week. Unbelievable. Sometimes the best seafood isn't in a "seafood" restaurant.

Best Pizza CRUST in RI?

Twin's Pizza is my favorite. There's something about it. I can't put my finger on what makes it so good.

Restaurant Secret Shopping

I have done this for the past year and have found it to be a good way to enjoy some free meals and hotel stays. I have stuck with high end places, and I'm not sure it's worth the work for a meal below $100. The report can take anywhere from 30 minutes, to four hours (two night hotel stay) to complete. It helps that I'm a teacher with the summer off, so spending a morning working on a report doesn't take spare time away from me. Staying at a high end hotel in NYC , is worth 4 hours of work to me. When I see the bill at check out and laugh that it equals my teacher's paycheck for 2 weeks, it works for me.

Weekend in Providence

I disagree too. The Rue is just blah. Not bad, but nothing I'd remember. I'm a Modern Diner person, but I guess that's technically in Pawtucket. Nick's is usually my second choice.

Monday Night Dinner in Providence

I'll put in a vote for Pan e Vino. Monday night, 1/2 price wine, Fedeal Hill. Good stuff.

Providence Restaurant Weeks Feedback

I was disappointed that I was out of town for the first week. The second week I had a great meal at Ruth's Chris. Hopefully next year I can take advantage of the two weeks. My family looks forward to it every year.

North Shore Kauai Report

I'll be honest, I hadn't done my research for Poipu and we just stopped in at Brennecke's because it was the first one we came to. For what we ordered, I didn't think is was anymore overpriced than what we had at other restaurants in Kauai. I really wanted to have a chance to eat at Roy's or the Beach House, but it never worked out. Maybe next time . . .
