Good Food Guide - new edition just received

If you mean the Abode, I had a pretty woeful meal there not too long ago, I wouldn't bother.

Everyone's constantly wibbling on about the Sticky Walnut, but I've not made it there myself.

Manchester. Northern Quarter vs. Ardwick - late lunch/early tea for a Saturday

NQ restaurant still good indeed, agreed that's your best choice.
Superstore is pretty good but much more of a casual place.
Montpelliers, OK enough bar food.

[Manchester, city centre] Koreana

There are several Korean competitors these days. Baekdu near Victoria station; Ban di Bul in Chinatown; eatGoody at the University; Seoul Kimchi on Upper Brook Street. Baekdu is my pick of the bunch food-wise - good Bibimbap; Ban di Bul is the closest to the amazing Korean BBQ places I've eaten at in California, but unreliable.

Have never tried Koreana so can't compare.

1 high end meal in Dublin. Where to go?

My opinion on L'Ecrivain: nice enough, but not very exciting, and certainly I've had plenty better 1-star meals elsewhere.

So glad to hear they've actually improved. Like you, we ate shortly after opening. Looking forward to booking again...

[Cheadle Hulme, Greater Manchester] Pointing Dog

Normally your reviews concur with my experiences, so I'm a little surprised you liked this place so much. I had the same cottage pie - but it was so underseasoned it came out rather bland.

I must admit I wasn't particularly excited by the menu either; had trouble choosing...

Manchester suggestions please!

Do not attempt Mexican in Manchester...

Manchester help

Albert Square Chophouse definitely has a lift, round the side.

[Manchester, city centre] Manchester House

Had the full-on tasting menu there the other night, thought it was really excellent, great service too. Totally wiped the floor with my experience of the French*, which surprised me.

* sorry but I really don't like that dining room, it makes no sense!

Cardiff: anything good that's open on a Sunday evening?

*shrug* had an enjoyable meal for a good price there. Same happened in Leeds. Manchester's was disappointing. Not a chain fan in general but we liked the first two; compared to Est Est Est and the like I'd choose Jamie's every time.

(Of course, I'd generally prefer a decent independent instead, especially if I'm planning ahead...)

[Greater Manchester/North Cheshire] Looking for a really good Italian restaurant

Gotta be on a hiding to nothing here.

Salsify - and where to find it

I've seen it once in Unicorn, Chorlton - don't know how often it's there, but definitely worth ringing them.

Restaurants near Manchester airport

There is nowhere "near" the airport really, but it's a very quick (15 mins) train ride to Manchester Piccadilly, and from there you can walk to any of the city centre choices (for example Abode is a 5 min walk from the train station).

Another spot-on review, Harters. Love this place and it has the edge on its newer Didsbury outpost I'd say.

Manchester City Centre

Yes. North Tea Power on Tib St would be my tip for best coffee around there, though.

Or take a short walk to Fyg on Tib St.

[Manchester, city centre] Le Relais de Venise

I rather liked this place for a quick dinner, but you make some good points. It's a bit weird. That sauce is a grower.

[Manchester, city centre] 63 Degrees

They've had long enough to grow now. I would echo Harter's feelings, parts of the food is very nice but there's far too many mistakes, and its pricing structure is way off. Our waiter was completely inept too (his wine recommendation was "red").

Yet another occasion where you have to take Manchester Confidential's opinion with a large salt lick.

Pub Curry recipes [moved from UK board]

This being the internet, someone, somewhere will have taken this quest to almost insanely detailed extremes. And here they are:

[Manchester, city centre] Bem Brasil

Yep, dead on. When I had a deal for a £5 lunch, it was fine. Its current prices are absurd for what is a pretty poor place all in all.

one night in Manchester

I like Akbar's, but East z East pips it in my opinion. And of the two, the branch on Princess St has the slight edge.

But it would be a terrible shame not to take the tram up to Aumbry.

Alchemist for cocktails (new one just behind Piccadilly Gardens).

I'm sure somebody else can recommend Chinatown places. I like Ban di Bul (Korean) and there's lots of people like Yuzu.

Outside of town, take the bus to West Didsbury's Burton Road for The Lime Tree, Rose Garden, or a few other places that aren't at all bad.
