Nicky's Pizza [white plains]

Same everything but the Prices ^^^^^$$$$$^^^^^

Nicky's Pizza [white plains]

Same Nick, Same Pie. Same Sausage in the Ricotta mix, Same Ham on top, NOT the same prices. I'm not sure how he can balance his prices with the Rent on Mamaroneck Avenue. $36 for a White Pie. WOW!

Nicky's Pizza [white plains]

Just an FYI, A white Pizza (whole pie) was $36. Finished with fresh cut basil. I didn't think it belonged on this pie because there's no tomato anywhere to compliment the basil. IMO, tell them to skip it. Also as I mentioned, and I don't think it was the ham, the pie was very salty.

Nicky's is OPEN! Had a White Pie today. For some reason i seemed very salty. anyone else?

New Addition at Former Flying Pig? [Mt. Kisco]

I see in Mt. Kisco as I drive by that the For Sale/Rent sign is down at the former Flying Pig. Is it my imagination or did somebody take it over, OR are they just changing the sign? Anyone?

Nicky's Pizza [white plains]

Any word on the opening of Nicky's?

Sette e Venti Bedford Hills

Disappointing! Nothing seemed 'authentic' rather than and alliteration of what the dish might have been.

Whole Foods is coming to Chappaqua!! (Westchester)

Overpriced and not impressed. I Like small local shops without the recipes coming out of a corporate kitchen. (just because they make it there...) We'll see what the traffic brings too. Sorry, I'm not a fan.

where have all the chinese (restaurants) gone in westchester?

Thanks! Nice to know. I'll give them a try. We've been doing Aberdeen for Dim Sum, but is pales in comparison to Chinatown. :)

where have all the chinese (restaurants) gone in westchester?

Sorry, I find everything in the food court at h Mart Disgusting! Sorry, You just have to go to Chinatown.

New to Mount Kisco, need the lay of the land

He's very good!

Nice dinner @ Fortina in Armonk

I'm just a little unclear, you like getting a comped meal because they've messed up your food every time you go there. It's a little bit of a dichotomy people like getting their order correct, but when it isn't, they give you a free meal. This may be the Las Vegas restaurant of Armonk. You can either hit on red or you can pay for your meal if you land on black. I have been to Fortina only once. They too messed up the meal, and they made it right, and I just will not go back. I don't want to deal with the inexperienced service, the food which everybody says is terrific and is just really okay, and the immensely loud and intolerable atmosphere that goes along with the crowds. I'll just take my meal the way I ordered it, and happily pay. If I don't have to wait an hour to get my entrée that's a bonus.

Worst restaurants in Westchester

Tell me more about the Farmers' Market. Where and when (their hours if you know it) is it?

Worst restaurants in Westchester

I too had a less than stellar experience. Mostly flavorless onion soup, the escargot was small and rubber-like, and our Croque's were just hideous. In Millbrook, Cafe' Le Beau is amazing, but it's a ride. Luc's in Ridgefield is OK but Le Beau is really very good. The final straw at Le Jardin was their french bread seemed like it was frozen loaf. There was no body, no crust, and no pull to it. In all, with my Groupon Reserve (same as Savored) the bill was still overpriced and not worth it! You can get your money back!

WCG: As the Zen Master said, "We'll See." (Alas the line is delivered by Phillip Seymour Hoffman in "Charlie Wilson's War") This is sorta what I've been talking about. And if you go, your food may be over salted. I can tell you that there are a good dozen restaurants that could deliver an equal meal without the JG pretentious bulls--t! ...and so it begins! "And your reception for your daughters wedding will be $700K for 50 people, BUT we will give you 4 additional appetizers!"

I believe 17 Mott street. And WCG is correct, there are 2 of them. I would only go to the one on Mott in Chinatown. I ate ate the midtown location and it was not as good. Could have just been the day, but in Chinatown they do an average of 150 ducks a day. It is better there than in Beijing! You cannot get a LI Duck in China!

No, none of them. Chang in not David Chen - Chen is in ARMONK.

Not at all. I have found little gems all across Westchester that don't break the bank, or have the pretense of JG. Angry is a strong word; Frustrated, dismayed, and astonished fall into the "rant" because there is a real truth to something people don't want to hear? Sans the actual trip into NYC, the Peaking Duck house makes about the best duck out there. I have been to David Chen; he sells peaking duck, and it's horrible. So Chen's price is higher for an inferior product because he is in Armonk and the only game in town. JG is treading on a reputation and people have commented that his food is salty or cakes are dried out, and while he has the same issues every other restaurant has, he get's the celebrity chef pass? I don't think so. For his prices and reputation he gets NO PASS. I've been fortunate to eat all over the world, Jiro Ono sushi, State Dinners in Italy, even Fries in Belgium, and Pastrami at Katz's so an $18 sandwich is expensive, but after 100 years, you know what you're going to get. IMO it's a lot of hype quite possibly not justified.
We'll see.

Interesting, Yelpers mix review it a 3 stars, but most yelpers don't know food. They give a diner 5 stars. Based on their previous 5 star visit to Per Se?

So, you went cheap? You could have ventured into NYC down to 7th and Bleeker, gone to John's Pizza, Pigged out, had a better coal oven Pizza from a 100 year old oven. I do love their crumbled sausage and fresh garlic pizza. But you can't carve your name in the wall at JG.

I've been to 121 several times, and my impressions were non plus. Loud and food is just ok, where the prices are way to high.

>>David Bouley>> IS INDEED A CHEF! who has NOT sold out! Mario is a PIG and a slimeball. If you need any more about that statement Google: "Batali Tip Scandal". Even Anthony Bourdain had SOLD OUT to ABC on another stupid reality show. " Let's make something taste Great from Rocks and Dirt" The only decent show about food competition is from the BBC "Master Chef UK" I digress, All of this has become MORE about Oooo the Chef, and Oooo the Blake and Ryan or the Martha, and if Obama dined there, and I am calling BULL PATTIES on this crap. We have already heard about over-salted food at JG, a BASIC mistake, Dried Out Desserts, and yet the Chef has no clothes? I will say it LOUD and CLEAR, NONSENSE! There simply are restaurants with very good chefs around Westchester that don't get the PR of JG, and WHY IS THAT? Let me tell you: It's much easier for for LOHUD, and WM and Bedford Mag, and WAG to do a story on an already Famous Chef than it is to seek out an ordinary person who is doing great things in the kitchen. I'd rather find a chef that is doing Free range, Organic, Wild Salmon, Grass fed beef, Sustainable, Unique Spices, Europe, Asia, India, Southwest, Japan. A touch of mystery in their cooking than Yuzu, and Ponzo, and things that come out of a bottle. Thomas Keller spends days and weeks on developing a sauce, he has 3 restaurants and a bakery and cafe. He has not got the restaurant Empire of JG. You lose control after a few restaurants, and the Chefs that you hire can never be YOU. They don't have "IT". So your food comes out over salted and basic mistakes are made; you have lost control, but your establishment lives on in false reputation? Why? Because you can never have enough money or power or you're not satisfied with less is more. Still you charge $260-300 per couple and unless you have gone to Alaska to fish for your Wild Salmon yourself, you are getting the SAME product as Mt. Kisco Seafood or The Hunts Point Markets. Good Lobster comes from Maine, Great Lobster comes out of Canada. The Colder and Cleaner the waters, the Better the lobster. FACT! 2-4 lb lobsters are about $8-9 bucks per pound and in many cases less. White KING salmon is $20 per pound, and yes, it's very seasonal and somewhat rare, but it's available. I'll come back to my basic point of: what in a dining scene are you looking for? The Scene Or the Food? What do you value in a restaurant? Is it the fact that you can't get in? And when you do, do you tell all your friends about how cool it was to see Martha at JG? Did you get your photo with JG? How about a photo with the child you rescued from Syria who has no parents and is missing an arm? Perspective hits you like a brick to the head. I get it, it's the new shiny penny but the level of excitement is simply over the top. Just what is so special? Chairs? Renovations? A fireplace? Two Bars? Caviar? Crab on a Crustino? Filet with a Sauce? Fresh Fish? I just don't get it, and if you can justify it and explain it, you must be a food critic.

>>Prices were OK, for local standards and famous chefs.<< REALLY? Define Famous?

I've eaten at a lot of places that had famous chefs that wasn't worth the french salt they used, in fact Bobby Flay used so much vinegar and lemon juice in a dish my wife had at the Borgata, that her mouth was burned up. So I say that these Famous Chefs who run from one of their Famous restaurants to the next, have no control over anything when they are somewhere in NYC or the South of France. My point here is that there are plenty of local talented chefs in Northern Westchester that don't have a "name" and PR company but deliver outstanding food because they are "in the house". I saw $226/ couple from Winecountrygirl, and THAT is not my idea of eating out once a week. Maybe the Pound Ridge Hedge fund crowd can drop that, but it's been two weeks and I can already see this restaurant is for the "Can Affords" and the "Can get ins" rather than "us". (>>>My wife had the pasta with brussel sprouts and pesto - The Cost to make this dish is about $6 bucks including labor if that) Let's get a grip on JG at PRI. Most restaurants wines are 2-3x retail, EVERYWHERE; surprised? So if you hunt around you can find a wonderful restaurant that doesn't leave you feeling raped in the wallet. As the Zen Master said, "We'll See".

I see on their menu "Sides" at $7 each, a $30 dish can become very quickly a $44 dollar adventure, which is typical. If a party of 4 shares 3-4 sides as we usually do, add that into the cost of Apps, Cocktails, Desserts, COFFEE or Espresso, and you have a NYC meal cost without the NYC Garage Parking and 900% NYC Parking tax :) So don't be fooled into thinking that JG is NOT going to make his investment back and quickly.

I'm gonna go! Although I had a weird experience at JG at Paradise Island in the Bahamas (it involved insects, and i'll say no more), this should be very good! They spent a fortune on the construction and i heard a month of training, so expectations are high!!

What kind of soup?

I would recommend a Manhattan Clam Chowder. If you can have cheese, when it's finished a dash of imported Parmesan cheese will really make it special. And don't forget along with canned clams if you use them at all, you want to get at least 2 dozen top necks or cherrystones and steam them up. Save ALL the juice, chop the clams and strain the juice through a coffee filter and add that back into your broth. Tabasco, Worcestershire sauce in moderation. You know the rest.... you're a cook! HAVE FUN - Let us know how it comes out!

2 pies $40? WCG, LOVE YOU, but did you actually say 2 Pies $40?? I know you wrote this awhile ago, and sine then i have heard that they are expensive but are we talking about gold flakes and truffles from Italy? Boy I miss Albaneses' in Eastchester, 2 large Pies 20 bucks sausage and fresh garlic.
Ouch, :) when i go, I have make sure someone else is paying. What are you doing next Saturday? hahahahaha.
Keep up the great writing!

Dim Sum for a Saturday night in Westchester or Rockland counties?

Dim Sum is an 11-3pm kinda thing. Even in Chinatown, you'll almost 99% of the time never be able to get Dim Sum in the evening. Go to Aberdeen at 11:15am on a Saturday or Sunday. Weekdays no later than noon, but you'll find less selections. NOT BAD, but the only real place is Chinatown, and worth the adventure.

Dim Sum Westchester or Rockland County

Went to Aberdeen today as your luck would have it. Quite good. Go at 11:30am on a Saturday or Sunday any later and you could be waiting awhile. Some of the dishes are better than others. Harkow is fantastic!

Restaurants in Westchester area for wedding dinner
