Restaurants for Grown Ups

Have you eaten at TK lately. Last time we went the food has slipped significantly.

River park fits the bill perfectly. Not loud, excellent food, in your location.

Great meal at Jaiya (Thai; 3rd Ave. at 29th St. location) last night

I have stopped ordering the whole fish at all thai places as it seems super dry and no meat. It also usually the most expensive entree

Hop Lee or Hop Kee?

Its been years since I trecked down to Chinatown at 4AM. Would rather head to bed these days.

Hop Lee or Hop Kee?

69 Bayard used to be the 4AM spot to hit for us after a night of drinking. No idea what the actual name was. Just had a neon 69 in the window

Hop Lee or Hop Kee?

Had my first Chinese food experience at Hop Kee in 1981 as a young boy. Were the most amazing flavors I ever had. Ate so much my stomach wall killing me. Have been make a few times over the years but was never able to create the great experience again. Loved the squid with rock salt.

Which would rather have? Great Food or Great Service in a Restaurant?

WHich is a completely different thread and a great conversation to have. How does bad service impact the tip you give. Have you ever given no tip.

Which would rather have? Great Food or Great Service in a Restaurant?

I get bad service 1 out of every 10 meals I eat outside my house. And that goes from white table cloth to wings at a bar.

Great meal at Jaiya (Thai; 3rd Ave. at 29th St. location) last night

I have been here at least 10 times. I really enjoy the flavors of the dishes however its the portion sizes that kill me. The dishes come with such little amounts of meat, especially if you order seafood. I counted 6 small cuncks of chicken in my curry last time. We have stopped going here strictly for the portion size reason.

Which would rather have? Great Food or Great Service in a Restaurant?

It would be hard (not impossible) to have great food and awful service together. Usually the poor service stems from wrong orders, long waits, rude service. Waiting and hour for a steak I dont care how good it is I am pissed and not coming back.
Now if the food comes out on time and is just bad but the service is friendly with many apologies and maybe a few comped drinks my night wont be ruined.

2 Burn-Your-Face-Off Spicy Dinners?

I made these at home and they were so good. Very easy. Take some decent, not high end silver tequila, cut a few jalepenos and drop them in, seeds and all. 6 hours later the tequila has a killer bite. Leave in longer if you really want heat. be careful as too long starts to color your tequila green. I mixed with fresh squeezed grapefruit juice and a squeeze of agave nectar. Just awesome!!

What to do with LOTS of fresh basil?

Find a Chumicuri recipie and replace with basil. Comes out really good on steak.

PHX area with 2 kids 8, 11

NYC CH here and looking for some fun, cool places to eat in the area. They are experienced eaters so please dont filter suggestions because they are kids. I would like to avoid $$$$ places. We have great sushi, chinese and italian in NYC but not great authentic mexican and BBQ. Also any fun cowboy themes or really beautiful views would be great.

Thanks

CHOW Reviews: Ninja Professional Blender

Any jucie you make in this blender will need to be poured through a strainer. Not a big deal but no way to avoid slush no matter how you cut the food or how long you blend.

North End Grill (Eric Korsh, n=1)

Thanks for the feedback.. Went to NEG multiple times last year but was getting bored with the menu and the high pricing. Ill give it another shot. However, not loving all the shouting from the kitchen. That gets old very quickly especially if you are seated in the bar area
