Client loves Cheese - where to take her

Various factors led me to Artisinal. Terrible experieince. Food was only slightly better than the service. $180 for 2 drinks, 4 chees platter, 1 entree, 1 soup. Never again. Boulabaise was so bland and the lobster was over cooked.

Spice Market - what a mistake

Went for dinner last night with a few coworkers from out of town. They had heard about SM so many times and really wanted to go. We had the tasting menu.

The dishes started coming out very quickly, mini lobster rolls, tuna tartare, samosas, beef skwewers...HOLD ON!!! We have only been her 15 min. The pace was brutal. Out came a few more dishes like Rib Eye, Cod, Shrimp Cakes...some awful dessert.
The food was mediocore at best. Lots of heavy sauces.
Now I have done tastings at EMP and Del Posto, JungSik...and some I left feeling good and some I left hungry (JungSik, Per Se) but this one I wanted to call a time out half way through. the portions were big and the dishes were heavy. We couldnt even finish the last 3 courses.
The atmosphere is creative and it wasnt packed which both were nice but opposite of what the pace of the meal reflected.

Wouldnt go back and out of towners were unimpressed.

Your favorite spots right now

I actually love it at the bar as well. Tough to get a table in the back. Must try that Thai Beer

Big Apple BBQ jumps the shark

For $300 I can fly to Memphis or Texas and eat real BBQ in a genuine atmosphere. Not in Madisaon Square Park.

Struggling big time, can you help me out.

Had the tasting at Jungsik about 8 months ago. The presentation with A+ but the flavors were pretty generic. I also left hungry which is never good.

Struggling big time, can you help me out.

Have been working a bunch and cooking at home so been out of the loop for a while. Its my wife birthday and want to go out. Looking for the following;
Sat night
one level below top tier i.e EMP
little nicer than some of our favs - Uncle Boons, Pig and Khao
Below 34th for sure, no preference east or west
No Italian or french
Would like a vibrant atmosphere but of course looking to avoid the MP places.

Let me know what you think. Ill respond back ASAP to any questions.

Thanks in advance

Does any place exist where you can smoke a cigar and have a cocktail?

I was happy wiht the experience at Club Macanudo. Did not eat there but a nice place, good cigar collection and friendly bartenders

David Burke Fishtail - Quick I need some recos

The Smoked Salmon pastrami for an app was excellent, so was the octopus. The spaghetti calabrian was mediocre at best.
Great homemade cider with bourbon for dessert was a must.

Romantic Steakhouse?

Avoid the pastrami ribeye , the first few bites are awesome but the flavor is so strong its hard to take for an entire steak. Good to share.

Romantic Steakhouse?

All good ideas I like SH as well. Try sitting at the bar if you can get it. It add to the romantic vibe as you are sitting next to each other as opposed to across. Even better if you can get a corner of the bar also.

Friday night dinner (at the bar) with Mom

Sit at the pass at Hearth or the pass at Pig and Khao, No way she can duplicate that meal at home.

Worth the Hype (Butter, Nobu, etc.)? And your recommendations!

for cozy italian I always think of Apizz in the LES. Dark, warm, quiet and delicious food.

I thought it was a funny response and not very condesending.
The OP might like Union Square Cafe, Tao, Spice Market as well.
