Also, "hella" is Bay Area slang. So, totes appropes.

10 Reasons to Hella Love Food in Oakland Right Now

"Cut the 'gritty' crap," indeed. Thank you. Finally. A great article about the Oakland food scene that focuses on the food and the chefs who work their magic in a city that manages to rise above its problems.

Love and Offal: My Filipino Food Romance

Filipino food is "just not very sophisticated"? I beg to differ.

How I Got Bad Ramen in Osaka

So Osaka didn't quite work out the way you thought. So what. You go back, armed with the information you have and the experiences you've accumulated, and eventually you'll find what you're looking for. It's part of the journey. I think some of the commenters are being pretty harsh and forgetting the whole point of your trip.

Italian Jam Crostata

I just made this with some Fig Vanilla Port preserves I made earlier this summer. And then I died, because it was so. freakin. good. And EASY.

Why Does Ketchup on a Hot Dog Piss People Off?

I like to eat my hot dogs plain. Just a hot dog and a bun. I'm not sure I want to know what that says about me.

The Diss, Updated: Calling Asian Food "Hipster"

If by "Asian Hipster Food," they mean "Asian food as mother cuisine," then I guess I could see the rationale behind the term, in that I-liked-Asian-food-before-it-was-cool kinda way. But if they're using the term to indicate that Asian food is a trend or a novelty, then I totally think that's inaccurate and a little offensive.

There's centuries behind Asian cuisine - it's not just some flash in the pan (pun intended). To call it some "hipster" phenomenon minimizes it and puts it on par with a social subculture most people roll their eyes at.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, John. I didn't know people were talking about Asian food in this way. I'm over here thinking, "FINALLY, Filipino food is getting some attention!"

PhuD4Thought - I took the point of John's article as him saying exactly what you're pointing out.

Cakes in a Jar

I'm having a hard time visualizing how this cake works since there's no liquid? So it's not like a batter cake...I'm confused. Looks super tasty, though. Has anyone tried this yet?
