Anyone else enjoying Create TV?

do you have a box? It looks like its Channel 651 on the most basic package, you just need to have a box because its a digital channel.

Anyone else enjoying Create TV?

Create is a service that each individual public television station can choose to carry or not. So its availability is entirely dependent on the area in which you live.

Some of the shows are available on pbs.org/food, many others are not because they are distributed by American Public Television.

PBS show "A Chef's Life"

PBS posted a Holiday Q&A with Vivian Howard, the chef who is featured. I think it gives a good sense of the show, for those who haven't watched.

Food shows you miss......

A bunch of the later years Julia Child stuff started streaming on the PBS website last year before her 100th birthday. Not quite as great as The French Chef, but a lot of good stuff.

Has anyone cooked with nettle?

I live in Maryland... I think I've seen it at our Farmer's market, but I figure if I'm gonna try it, I should actually forage it myself.

Has anyone cooked with nettle?

I just saw this video and recipe: http://www.pbs.org/food/kitchen-vigne...

I've heard that people cook with nettle, but I have very little knowledge beyond that. What does it taste like? The recipe mentions spinach as a substitute, is that an accurate flavor profile?

Where can I find it?

PBS Celebration for Julia Child's 100th Birthday

Anyone else see this announced this week?

http://www.pbs.org/juliachild

I wonder if enough people still remember and appreciate Julia for this to work. Do those old episodes still hold up?

PBS the last bastion for REAL shows on cooking.

I'm not sure why any of that matters.

The point is that if you want to watch actual cooking shows, public television offers the most real cooking shows with the best chefs. And its really not close. Whether or not they are homegrown stars or not, the place you can find them right now is your local PBS station.

PBS the last bastion for REAL shows on cooking.

While its true that the main PBS stations don't program that much cooking shows, there is the Create channel which airs a lot more cooking programs.

And I'm sorry, but Cooking Channel doesn't have a lineup that approaches the level of Pepin, Lidia, ATK, Ming, John Besh, Rick Bayless, Jose Andres, Sara Moulton,

Even some of the local show hosts like Alpana Singh and Leslie Sbrocco are incredibly respected food and wine folks.

I love PBS cooking shows too!

Are you all aware that PBS launched a smallish food site last Fall? Its just http://www.pbs.org/food .

Not a ton of stuff there yet, but its been growing in content steadily. And they have stuff from some of the local shows, which can be very hit or miss.

"Sandwich Madness" tournament

Agree on the hamburger, though there is a note saying that they didn't include hamburgers because there are too many varieties. (I think I saw that somewhere.)

"Sandwich Madness" tournament

Thought this might be of interest here. The food site on PBS is running a tournament of sandwiches at the same time as the big basketball tournament.

Wish they had some different choices, but its definitely more interesting than the NCAA tournament.
