Rant: Sick of "Artisanal" and "Curated" food and Wine - Food pretensions that make you gag? Post em here!

And like I made this morning. I do use ground Yuban, so I'm not part of the pretentious crowd.

"There is a well-known saying: if you stand for nothing, you'll fall for anything." Couldn't agree more. Get me my "fishin stick" and I'll go do it my self.

Perfectly Melting Cheese

"I found out that this product can cause the following side effects: Tetany (intense sudden-onset contractions of your muscle groups), Elevated Sodium or Metabolic Alkalosis." ANYTHING that you put in your pie hole can make you sick if you eat enough of it. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. If you would re-visit the recipe you would discover that this recipe is for 4-6 people which puts the amount of sodium citrate in each serving to 3.5 to 2.33 grams per serving. The only documented case of severe toxicity was greater than 100 times that amount.

This site may help. They also have a weekly segment on "The Splendid Table" podcast that may help you with those boring hours between restaurants. LOL

Consumer Reports Investigates Exploding Pyrex

My Pyrex 4 cup measuring cup handle melted in the microwave when it became wedged against the inside wall to the microwave oven. It's ugly, but it still works and until it breaks I won't replace it.

"Cook's Treat:" What's Yours?

Don't ANY of you taste as you go along, to "make sure the seasoning is correct"? I have all of you beat, ANYTHING in MY kitchen is fair game for the cook. LOL

Do you pressure cook?

I love mine. I can make (mostly) home made chicken noodle soup in about an hour. I use a grocery store roast chicken and remove the meat and make homemade stock in the PC. During the hour it takes to make the stock in the PC, I make homemade noodles and cook them in the stock after straining out the exhausted veg used to flavor the stock. Add a bag of mixed veg and then the chicken in to warm in the soup when the noodles are cooked, and a "from scratch" soup is on the table even after a day at work.

No Drinks = Bad Service

My ex-husband lost his "real" job (like so many others have lately) and is delivering pizzas. The worst tippers are the folks ordering at the beginning of the month (read: "the welfare checks just came in") and folks ordering in the middle of a blizzard ("It's unsafe for US to go and get food, so lets order a pizza"). A little know fact: the "delivery charge" is just another way for the pizza joint to jack up the price of the pie. Out of a 2 dollar charge, he only gets $.50! If you don't tip the drivers, they don't make any money. An extra buck is well worth it to me to NOT have to do dishes.

Are Manners Getting Worse?

I disagree entirely! Those examples are of business owners not wanting to get sued and lose their life savings because someone didn't understand that the dinner rolls provided were not "gluten free". Kids run am-muck because they either 1)Can't correct their children because to do so would bring down the wrath of some busy-body that thinks that Mommy or Daddy is being harsh or 2)are on their mobile phones because they are under this terrible misconception that they are SOOO important. No matter. I now have no problem being rude RIGHT BACK, and this has lowered my stress level greatly.
