City cracks down on SF restaurant surcharge fraud But the city can say that IF a restaurant uses a surcharge, then that money collected from the surcharge MUST go to health for the employees. The city did not say that till recently. And even when they did finally say that, it is still rather vague. "because the City's HRA policies aren't that clear, the restaurant therefore isn't at fault for collecting a consumer surcharge that they then don't pay out in the manner represented to consumers." That is not entirely what I am saying. I am saying that there are other things to take into account. An example would be that employees are not submitting the claims. Another would be that there may be money left over AFTER all employees health care is paid for. and yes, to an extent, If a government mandates something to businesses, and does not provide an rules or guidelines to how a business complies with the government mandate, then yes, you can not hold the business accountable for doing it wrongly. |

City cracks down on SF restaurant surcharge fraud Side note: I have been looking ALL over the city web site looking for that exact document. I can never find it. |

City cracks down on SF restaurant surcharge fraud Of course it is not going to make BIG headlines. However I can think of a restaurant I worked for that is a large landmark restaurant with multi millions in revenue, that had a surcharge on the menu, and never filed an annual report. Actually, I can think of 2 that I worked for. What I am trying to say is that i look at "the list" and I think of the places that *should* be on it...and are not.... So a restaurant got busted because they file the annual report, and another restaurant gets away with it...because they never filed the report. |

City cracks down on SF restaurant surcharge fraud calumin, One of the issues I have with what is going on/how it is being handled by the city. What you wrote is what should happen, however it was not the legal requirement at the time. another issue I have with all of this: a restaurant is only on the list IF they reported their annual report. There are a lot of places that do not file the annual report. I do not see the City Attorney going after those places. You can easily take an alphabetical list of all restaurants in SF and compare them to those that have filed the annual report. Better yet, ALL businesses. My final issue is that the money has to be claimed in order to be given. If an employee does not claim the funds....then what do you do? |

Michael Bauer's efforts to remain anonymous I have the fantasy, that if it was NOT my restaurant, and I saw him at another place, I would take pictures. very obvious pictures. |
Michael Bauer's efforts to remain anonymous As a totally random side question to my fellow CHers: If you saw Bauer in public, eating in the same restaurant, would you say something to him? |
Michael Bauer's efforts to remain anonymous Its better then him putting dirty dishes on the floor Bauer is currently reviewing a restaurant next to the one I work at. I can tell you that EVERYONE in this place has his pictures, as we expect to see him for a cocktail(the place he is reviewing does not take reservations) while he waits for his table at the new place |

Trip for parents -- How are my SF restaurant choices? I think those are nice SF choices. AQ over Baker and Banker An alternative to Jardiniere, I would suggest Absinthe |

Best Restaurants - Five nights in San Francisco I hear ya loud and clear. i DROOL for Coppa. and M&C is a must visit every time I am there I think most recs will be: State Bird |
Yu can burger most everywhere. asking for Mexican and Chinese recs can easily open an entire debate. I would recommend some research (the mission and Richmond Dist specifically) and then we can narrow down your choices. |

70-80 Person Wedding in San Francisco There are a lot of affordable restaurants, however it depends on how much the food must WOW. I know the Park Chalet can accommodate that many. However I do not know how the catering food is. |

Boston Hound visiting SF for the first time - critique my itinerary! For lunch in North Beach, you have a lot of options if you are just strolling about. and depending what time you get into NM, you can stroll to china town for DIm Sum. Most places close by about 2pm If memory serves(I lived in Boston 4 years ago, for 8 years) Boston doesn't really have upscale Indian or all that great Southern influenced food ( I know some in Cambridge have popped up as of late, hungry mother, etc) so Dosa and 1300 Fillmore might be great options if State Bird does not work out. Or if the wait for SBP is a while, you can grab a light snack at either of those places. Tuesday Taco: I love strolling through the Mission on a Taco crawl. |

Has any one been? Recently? I walk by it daily and I have wondered about it, especially since I love French food. The TV's in the window displaying the menu, is kind of a turn off. |
