Olive Garden in decline?

I worked there in college. If you saw behind the scenes you wouldn't eat there. Servers graze freely on peoples plates. No gloves when making salads. The clientele is cheap as well. I was a smiley, fast, efficient server. I won sales contests and tons of great service comment cards. It was nearly impossible to get the 20% I worked my butt off for. I knew it was going to be a tough shift when people asked for paper napkins, thinking the linen was a place mat.

Recommendations in Biloxi, Ocean Springs, D'Iberville, Gulfport area.

Steve's Marina in Long Beach is my new favorite. I went with a group of friends and we ordered everything from apps to desserts...and shared it all. I can honestly say EVERYTHING was fantastic. Darwells in Long Beach is a nice casual place. They serve a lot of guy food. They put etouffe sauce on their "gourmet" dishes. They have the coolest atmosphere/art gallery around and live music almost every night.

JIM, please re open!!! My parents ate there all the time when they dated. Hugo's pizza is always brought up when us locals talk of good food from better days.

MS Gulf Coast Mini-Report

A great place to eat is Steves Marina on the beach in Long Beach. The gumbo is very good. The entrees are simply heaven on a plate. I had some small plates with stuffed portobellos, stuffed with crab meat, toppedwith hollandaise. I also tried their fried green tomatoes with the crab/hollandaise topping (fantastic!) The paneed. Chicken was the best I ever had, as was the ribeye and gumbo. My girlfriends and I waddled out of there. It was a good value money wise and you cant beat the view anywhere else around town. You are over the water. You can watch them reeling in the dinner special.

I am sure there are other good po boys out there, but a roast beef from Mr Elvis is out of this world. No tricks or food network trends...just solid, stand out food. A great deli and sandwich shop that just happens to sell gas. Josh, I'm having a roast beef pressed and dressed as we speak. Does anyone else want to pull your hair out when Emiril Lagassee calls them "poor boysĖ?

The schooner was fantastic, pre-katrina. My hubby was at Biloxi Regional hospital a couple of weeks so we got a lot of schooners take out. There was nothing special or stand out about it. The shrimp was flavorless and rubbery. It was better than hospital food, but its not hard Toronto that. Go west to the end of Howard avenue and try Burger Burger instead. That's another Biloxi institution.

Fayards BP is the best by far. Mr. Elvis takes the time to know his customers and he carries a lot pf hard to find, locally made food stuffs. I only shop at walmart or wink Dixie when Fayards closes (at sunset) I also buy most of my meats there. It is a great value and in addition, he offers freezer packages (about 2-3 weeks worth of red meat and pork, different cuts) He sells.gourmets goodies, there are yummy cappuccino drinks, seafood stuffed potatoes, boudin, frozen family size entrees, souvinirs, Paul's king cake (during Carnival season) and Southern Hospitality, local style. No one better poor-talk the Fayard family around me. Their food speaks for itself and all the ones I have met are a joy to be around.
