late night eats in el paso, tx?

Yes, Ive been to El Taco Tote, but it wasnt my favorite. I much prefer Taco Cabana! There's just something about the fresh salsa bar, and the crispiness of their chips that I looooove. Happy eating!

late night eats in el paso, tx?

Ususally when I fly into El Paso that late, I head over to Taco Cabana first thing. There is one right off of 10 heading downtown. Its not fine dining by any means, but the tortillas are made in house, its inexpensive, and they have a wonderful, fresh salsa bar.
I usually get the steak fajita tacos which come with chips and chile con queso. I add some of the green salsa to the queso, and then I use all the different salsa's + lime on the tacos. Delish!

If you are really adventurous you could hit up Chico's Tacos, which is a favorite to El Pasoens, but its the kind of place that you either loooove or HATE. I happen to fall into the loooove category, but fine dining it is not... most people would debate whether its even to be considered "good". Its known for rolled tacos, floating in a mystery tomato/watery concoction and topped with mounds of fine shredded cheese product. Dump in a few salsas, and add a side of fries and I am in heaven. But I am not fooled to think its something everyone likes. That being said it is an El Paso landmark, and worth the try if your adventurous.

Best Christmas Dinner in Santa Fe????

Thank you for the link! From the looks of it it seems as though we picked the right spot, my husband and father and the rest of our group will be very pleased. I just emailed the link to my DH who replied "nom nom nom"... which is a good thing in our world.

Best Christmas Dinner in Santa Fe????

Thank you both for your imput. We went ahead and made reservations for the Bishop's Lodge. I spoke to the staff at SantaCafe, and there wasn't anything that my world's pickiest dad would go for, perhaps if it were just my husband and I and my inlaws...but that will have to wait for another time. Thanks!

Best Christmas Dinner in Santa Fe????

We are going to be in Santa Fe for Christmas this year, and we are staying at a rental house on Canyon Rd, but we dont want to prepare xmas dinner. Where is the best place to get a semi-traditional Christmas dinner. By that I mean, we are not looking for Asian/Indian, no specifics as far as vegetarian or anything. We've made a few calls and a lot of places are either not open or they are serving their normal menu.

Has anyone had Christmas dinner at Bishop's Lodge or Amaya in the Hotel Santa Fe before? These look to be closest to what we are looking for.

Any help would be appreciated, or suggestions of other, better places as well.

Thanks!

OK, here goes nothing...best pizza in NM?

Oh my god I looooove the Rio! Their pizza is awesome, and I have never had any problems with their atmosphere. I would say its worth a trip to Ruidoso just for their pizza if nothing else.

Veggie-friendly recommendations in south New Mexico and El Paso

The Bistro and Winery you stopped in at in Las Cruces was most likey St. Clair Winery & Bistro. If thats where you stopped, its one of our favorite places in town.

Veggie-friendly recommendations in south New Mexico and El Paso

I'm sure your trip has passed, or you are on it now, but I can give you rec's for Las Cruces. La Posta does have vegetarian options, but so do most Mexican places. I love the red and green enchiladas at Andales, which is in the same vecinity as La Posta. Also, SI Italian Bistro, though not New Mexican, has one of the best selections of vegetarian options in town. Portobello & Blue Cheese sandwich=greatest thing ever! They are located on Idaho, behind the Albertsons.

Phoenix to Las Cruces, NM

The St. Clair Bistro is actually in Las Cruces, the location in Deming is only a winery/tasting room and doesnt serve food.

Also, the place bigshot is reffering too is La Fonda, and its alright, but buffet for the most part.

I would wait until you arrive in Las Cruces where there will be many more options available to you.

NEED ALBEQUERQUE DINNER SPOT FOR BUSINESS DINNER w/ 13pp

I'm not sure if you have already had the event or not, but I would reccomend St. Clair Winery & Bistro on Rio Grande BLVD. The atmosphere is great, and you should be able to stay within your budget, while still feeling like you are indulging.

OK, here goes nothing...best pizza in NM?

In Las Cruces we ( specifically my husband and I) have 2 favorite spots for pizza. Number 1 is SI Italian Bistro, its located on Idaho behind Albertsons, they have a traditional wood fired oven that was shipped over from Italy and rebuilt here. The crust is thin and crisp, the toppings are fresh and of good quality, and I love that they have more then just your basic pepperoni and limited veggies to choose from. Also, they make their dough, sauce, and sausage in house, which is always a plus.

Our second choice is Zeffiro's. Its new to LC, I'd say its been open about 6 months or so, located in the downtown on Water st. The city is really trying to revitalize our downtown area and I love the fact that Zeffiro went in there. The ambiance is great, and the pizza's are awesome. Again, the crust is thin, with just enough balance of chewy/crispy. They have a few sauce options, which is very nice, their pesto is some of the best I've ever had. They have probably the largest selection of toppings as well. They really make a stellar pie and they are in the process of opening a NYC style eatery near the university, which I cant wait to try out. Also, they make homemade baguettes and ciabatta that are to die for. mmmmm. Now I want something ooey, gooey and cheesy!

Cheese, Chocolate & Wine Stores in ABQ, SF & Taos?

You should also try St. Clair Winery and Bistro, near old town ABQ on Rio Grande BLVD. It has the largest selection of NM wines that you will find, reasonably priced, and good service as well if you decide to stay and check out an afternoon nosh or dinner.

Hofbrauhaus Las Vegas

We had lunch there on my birthday in January. Yes it was pricey, but the beer was good - (get the boot!) and the sausages I had were very tasty. I think one was pork and the other was veal- the veal was my favorite, it practically melted in my mouth. Also, I cant remember what the dip was called, but it was made with Brie and spices and cream cheese I believe- To Die For! The only things I would have done differently, are I would have liked my sausages to be grilled a little, so the casings get nice and crisp, and I would have preffered for my pretzel to be served hot.

Pecan Pie in New Mexico? Also, wine/alcohol question?

I may be wrong, but our more conservative laws regarding alcohol sales and consumption, are in part due to the high number of DWI accidents and deaths in the state. We dont have the best track record when it comes to keeping drunks off the streets, so they are a bit stricter with the alcohol liscencing and laws here.

Pecan Pie in New Mexico? Also, wine/alcohol question?

I can say for Cruces that though pecans are definitly in abundance here, I can only think of a few places that do a good pecan pie, but I dont know if any of them would be considered "great" SI Italian Bistro & Bakery on Idaho does a wonderful array of desserts, and with fall arriving they should start with pecan pies again soon, though it may not be until October. I'm having a hard time coming up with other local places, (I exclude Village Inn, because A. its not local, and B. no they dont have America's favorite pies thank you very much) that specialize in pies/desserts that havent recenlty closed. Though you could definitely check the Big Chair, on the corner of Picacho and Motel Blvd. Their dessert selections are quite lovely. Also Stahman farms, which I assume you are going to, does a pecan pie, but I havent had it in years.

I would like to quickly add, that since you are going to be in NM you should give New Mexico wines a try. While in Las Cruces treat yourself to a meal, or an afternoon nosh at St. Clair Winery and Bistro. Its on Avenida de Mesilla, on the way into Mesilla. You could have lunch their, and then continue on the same road all the way out to the Stahman Farms. St. Clair has quite a few lines of wine under their name, and are starting to get more and more national coverage. One of their wines just took the top award at the largest wine competition in the country. Its worth the experience at least to check them out.

As for bringing in your own wine, I don't belive its allowed in much, if not all of NM. Certainly not in Las Cruces.

Some Southern New Mexico Musings

Oh my... Pancake Alley?? Say it isn't so.... We live in Las Cruces and typically dont go to any of the places on that end of Picacho. The area is ridden with crack addicts and prostitutes, and the eateries are .... well... you found out for yourself I suppose! Just down the way on Valley Dr. is Ranchway, you should have headed straight there. Great green chile meat burritos, Mexican combination plates etc. For a breakfast in a 50's inspired place, we have a new place on Idaho, The Hot Rod Cafe, its where Tegmeyers used to be, for those that new that place. We had breakfast there a few weeks back, the prices were good, the servings were huge and the food was delicious. Diner food mind you, nothing fancy but well executed none the less.

Best selection of Arizona Wines in Phoenix

I believe that the grapes are grown in AZ, and then the wine intself is fermented and bottled in NM, so technically the appellation is still AZ.

Best selection of Arizona Wines in Phoenix

Has anyone seen that Kokopelli Winery has completely re-designed their labels? not sure if the wine has changed, but their look has just improved dramatically.

Food in Las Cruces, NM (long)

There are though 2 downfalls to the Adobe Deli. Their service is horrid, and you will be there for a 4 hour dinner, as it takes FOREVER.

Roque's Carnitas, Santa Fe

Big thumbs up on Los Potrillos for me... I Loooooooove that place. Anytime we're in SF we go there for at least one dinner, the chicken in pineapple sauce is to die for.

Santa Fe Help!

I've never been a fan of Maria's or Tia Sophia, but the rest of your list looks pretty good.

Albuquerque in review

I think what you have to realize about the Frontier is its more of an institution if you will... Its one of those places that has been around for forever, and that has a VERY loyal customer base. Can you get better food somewhere else? Probably, but not tortillas... they are the very best, hands down. Its hard for me to explain why I love that place so much, but I can understand why some people are put off by it.

Santa Fe: blue corn pancakes

My Fiance had them when we were there in March... maybe they just happened to be out one day?

Santa Fe: blue corn pancakes

The Tecolote Cafe on Cerriolos has the best, but be sure to ask for the real maple syrup (they charge a little extra) because fake syrup is....yuck. Also they are rather big, my dad has a hard time finishing 1, and they have pinons in them.

Hatch NM - Sparky's BBQ & Burgers

I know that this isnt exactly food related, but they have the most amazing B&B in Hatch, which is actually where I am getting married soon. Its a historic building just outside of town that used to be a convent, and is now a b&b, spa and sanctuary. It reminds me of some of the wonderful places in Santa Fe but on a Hatch budget... it is really worth a stay!

The Historic Pelham House Bed & Breakfast
575.267.5288

They dont really have a website, but give them a call, Robert & Cici the proprieters are wonderful hosts, you wont be dissapointed.

First visit to Albuquerque

Grab breakfast Saturday morning at the Frontier on Central- its an institution in ABQ, I cant imagine a trip without it. Its dirt cheap, and always busy, but you will get the most delicious freshly made flour tortillas (they pull them right off the stove and onto your plate) and I love their sweet rolls.

I have to agree with Debit, we checked out cake fetish and while their cupcake selection included a ton of fun ideas, the cakes themselves were rather... meh.... I'm on WW and after splurging and giving it a try I was left thinking "I wasted my points on that... dang it. "

Lunch en route from Albuquerque to Santa Fe?

Orchid Thai- I freakin loooove that place! Almost everyime I visit ABQ I have to stop in for chicken with pineapple curry for the fiance, and pad thai for myself...yum.

Birthday Lunch in Santa Fe

Los Potrillos on Cerrillos is a favorite of ours when we're in SF. Their chicken in pineapple sauce is insane.

Zia Diner- do their cooks ever have an ON day? I dont see what people see in that place, the meals I have had there have been bad at best.

Chopped Season 2

I think I will actually miss that one ridiculous item they would throw in ( like the powdered cheese fromthe kraft mac and cheese box, or gummy bears or whatever) because it gave the show a bit of playfullness and I loved seeing the creativity that it envoked.

Stupid easy recipes you really love

My super easy go to dinner is this
take chicken breasts, pound thin, add filler ( I like fresh spinach and feta but you could use anything you have around, season with s/p/garlic powder. Fold chicken breast in half, coat in bread crumbs, and saute in olive oil until the bread crumbs are browned and the chicken is cooked through. I usually serve it with a box of parmesaen flavor couscous and I steam sugar snap peas or green beans in the micro.. dinner in under 30 min...deeeelicious!
