The Prince and The Pauper, Woodstock, VT

My husband and I visited The Prince and The Pauper last night for my birthday dinner. We had high hopes, as the reviews are all generally good, and some of the locals told us it was supposed to be the best in the Upper Valley. Boy were we disappointed...

The best way to describe this place is so-so country club-type food. The lamb entree that is supposed to be supreme, was heavy, a bit chewy and generally not that good. The appetizers were generic - the duck spring roll was hardly better than anything from Not Your Average Joe's. The ravioli appetizer was dull and basically uneventful.

Finally, the service was so-so at best. It took a while to get a menu, to get from salad to entree and to get a second glass of wine.

I am not sure what people see in this place. It is a quaint setting in a beautiful little town, but a bust by almost ever measure.

Looking for best food in Portsmouth, NH for "special occasion" dinner

My husband and I are heading to Portsmouth in mid-August and are looking for a great restaurant at which to celebrate our 5th anniversary. We generally like all types of food, but prefer fresh, local ingredients, want an attractive setting, and are ok splurging a bit. Please let me know your recommendations. We will be staying at Wentworth-by-the-Sea, so if the recommended spot is not exactly in downtown Portsmouth, we'd be ok with that too since we'll have to drive no matter what.

Thanks for your recommendations!

Swanky NYC eatery for bachelorette party

I am looking for something kind of newer and cooler - a festive atmosphere, where the food is actually decent. We have a relatively large party, so the locale would have to be big enough to accommodate a large table. The bride's request was somewhere you have to get decked out and the food is tasty....

Thanks for everyone's recommendations.

Swanky NYC eatery for bachelorette party

I'm in search of a swanky/chic restaurant in nyc for a group of 13 30-somethings hoping to enjoy a night out in celebration of a dear friend's upcoming nuptials. We want a festive atmosphere but good food too - nothing over-the-top bacheloretty. We had been recommended stanton social, mr. chow, and buddakan, but can't get into the first option with a party of 13, have already been to buddakan and have some people who don't love Chinese food in our party, so mr. chow is out. So, we're back to the drawing board. Can anyone please direct us to a few good options? We would ideally love to stay in the Meat Packing District, Tribeca, Chelsea area (or thereabouts) but can go further.

Thanks so much for your advice/suggestions!!

Best foodie places in Providence RI, looking

I recently went to Farmstead in Wayland Square and it was DELICIOUS! What a cute little spot with all organic food and a VERY wide array of cheeses. You may need to wait is the only thing...but it was worth the wait. I also highly recommend Al Forno (http://www.alforno.com/) - call ahead for a reservation now, but you won't beat the food in Providence or really anywhere to be honest. Also, for a fun, easy dinner, try Vendi Ravioli on Federal Hill. It has a great selection of Italian food and you can either eat there or get to go for a picnic somewhere else...

Retaurant in Wickford, RI / East Greenwich, RI

Anyone been to the Seaport Tavern in Wickford? My sister-in-law got a recommendation for this place.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. We are thinking of going to Table 28. Is this a good choice?

Retaurant in Wickford, RI / East Greenwich, RI

I am looking for a "special occasion" restaurant in the Wickford / East Greenwich, RI area. We will be celebrating my father-in-law's retirement and have people coming from Providence and from Charlestown, RI. Does anyone have any recommendations? Most of the posts on here seem to be somewhat dated for that area, so I can't seem to get much information. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!!
