Some people find the mild brinyness off putting as well as the color. I found the presentation interesting and enjoyed the flavor.... But palates vary in personal preferences.... As with Uni.... Some people love it and others hate it!

Parker's Lighthouse is passable for solid food.... Kind of like going to the Cheesecake Factory with similar pricing. Skyroom is definitely more $$$ and upscale... They also have a new steakhouse on the upper floor of the restaurant at Parker's Lighthouse. There are a ton of restaurants on Shoreline now! The Queen Mary as well!

If you can get a reservation... The Skyroom in Long Beach is an amazing place to watch the fireworks over Long Beach Harbor. You can actually go on the rooftop during the firework display and get great view of the harbor. You feel like being transported in time to the 1930's with the doorman and elevator operator.... Just to correct you, GD is not a French restaurant, although he incorporates some classical French technique in his cooking. He has been described as a true Californian Chef, utilizing many local and seasonal ingredients indigenous to California. There is a global fusion in his cooking as well as in his technique. in addition, he has an amazing wine list which includes many small California winemakers that do very limited production... A great opportunity to try some obscure, but amazing wines as well. So.... I politely agree to disagree with you and reiterate my opinion to ranh to definitely consider Gary Danko for an example of great California cuisine...... Check some of the Yelp reviews as reference 3,008 reviews and an average of 4.5 stars and 2 Michelin Stars speak for themselves!

When in San Francisco... dine at Gary Danko in the Financial District... there's no substitute!

I agree in what you are saying and not debating the importance of lawyers and doctors. Just pointing out that all the dedicated sushi chefs that take the pride and integrity in serving us exceptional food work very hard and long hours... And I'm sure sacrifice much of their free time to do so. Most do it because they have a passion for their craft so they do not necessary see it as a sacrifice, but a necessity to accomplish their goals and luckily we get to benefit from their commitment.

I enjoy trying hard to find premium sakes, but most Japanese restaurants have the usual Otokoyama or higher end Kubota, Ken.... The usual suspects! Do any restaurants in Los Angeles have sushi/sashimi pairings with great sake? Thanks Hounds!

Went last night to Red Medicine and had dinner and dessert... great meal! Get the Birch Ice dessert...so good! I asked the server after, and she told me Chef Kahn does do a tasting menu... I believe she said a 6 or 7 course menu... so it might be worth a call to confirm with the restaurant!

Looking for something different than your typical buffet brunch for Easter Weekend, but still a good value and price. Any ideas?
