What to do with a big ham?

I make ham and bean soup. a bag of 16 bean soup mix with ham flavoring. The ham on the bone, a can of stewed tomatoes, couple cans of chicken broth (or home made) some onion, salt and pepper and a bay leaf. Throw it all in the slowcooker and walk away. Simple and yet delicious :)

Are you a better cook than your Mother?

You have just described me...If I have to measure you can forget me making it, I don't think I even own a full set of measuring spoons and cups. My mom however is nit picky and anal retentive about EXACT measurements in EVERYTHING.

Superbowl

Porker IMO crab boils are NEVER too much of an event. Boil it all up spread newspaper on the dining room table dump the mess on provide napkins, crackers and small plates. Besides the set up in my house is very open therefor no one will miss the game for extracting crab. I love your ideas though. Keep 'em coming as my crab boil idea may be just a pipe dream LOL

Superbowl

I'm having a party for Superbowl and expect a pretty fair turn out. I plan on having traditional fare such as hot wings, queso dips etc...but I'd like to throw a twist in as well or maybe a couple non traditional dishes...any ideas or recipes?

Out of town family, HELP....

So I have ultimately decided to go with a chicken soup made in the slowcooker, the weather here is just right and I can make it with my eyes closed. Along side that I'll get a loaf of GOOD bread and make a simple salad. Also thought I would buy maybe a cheesecake, I realize the soup will be the ONLY home made component but I think it should work out fine, what do you all think? Any other suggestions?

Out of town family, HELP....

She's from Pittsburgh, and yes I did notice that they tend to (IMO) underseason food quite a bit. So I am a bit concerned with that because I have a tendency to make my food very spicy as well as well seasoned. I'm debating wether I want to stick more in her comfort zone or if I want to really "shine' by preparing something she may not have had before. So far all your ideas are great though, thanks everyone!!

Out of town family, HELP....

My DH's Aunt is coming in from PA next week and every time we visit her she's kind enough to make a spread of food for us so I'd like to return the favor....I am, while not Michelin Star caliber in the cooking department a pretty decent cook. What I need to know is what would any other chowhounds suggest for a dinner? She will probably only eat at my house one night as she has other family to visit...and if there is a recipe I haven't made yet I'm not afraid to try it out. I'm not looking so much to impress as I am to "pay it forward" as this is the first time she will be coming to MY house instead. Thank you!!!

Tilapia Heads

I ultimately went with bacardi1's suggestion simply because it dawned on me that 2 heads weren't enough to get worked up over throwing away. ips...next time I have more I will try that, sounds delicious.

Tilapia Heads

So the other day I bought two whole tilapia and cooked them (oven style, stuffed in case any one wants to know) I've got two heads left and I hate to waste them....the major issue I'm having is the amount of little pin bones in the fish. What would y'all reccomend I do with these heads. Also, on another side note please no recipes for fish stock as I do not cook fish often enough to make it of any use and already have enough home made chicken broth in my freezer to cover an apocolypse. Thanks in advance for any and all ideas.

What Food Thing Are You Currently Craving--Like Right Now!

Velveeta shells and cheese, smoked oysters on crackers, chili flavored ramen. a cornish game hen with super crispy skin. The last is really more of a desire to try a new "crisping method" I found here on CH then any real craving for the hen.

Your Favorite EASY Recipes

One of my favorites is to put some ribs in the slowcooker, smother in onion and pour a bottle of bbq sauce over the whole thing......I get so many compliments on a dish that basically took me three minutes to make.
