Some dinner suggestions please!

We'll be in SF (Nob Hill area) for three nights in mid-October.
We'd love some suggestions for three dinners - prefer contemporary new California cuisine (lots of great ethnic here in NYC) Exception would be terrific Vietnamese (which we CAN'T find here) Not "fancy" as we won't have dressy clothes. Thanks!

Dinner in the Polanco neighborhood of Mexico City

We are staying at Las Alcobas. I heard they have an excellent restaurant but we would like some more casual places as well.

Dinner in the Polanco neighborhood of Mexico City

We'll be spending five nights in the Polenco neighborhood - first visit to Mexico City. We would love suggestions for DINNERS that are WALKING DISTANCE - i.e. neighborhood spots. We don't eat huge meals and we don't eat late - we eat just about everything so they don't have to be all Mexican cuisine....we are not bringing any really fancy clothes (no sport jacket for my husband) .....THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!

Single Serving Coffee Pot??

I've got an espresso machine but what I really crave is a Keurig-type machine for a single serve regular coffee. Right now I'm supporting my neighborhood coffee shop which is nice....but sometimes it's pouring.......
VERY CONFUSED by all the different choices and models. Is Breville the same as Keurig? What about Cuisinart? Which is best? Read lots of poor ratings but personal experience might be more helpful....WHICH ONE SHOULD I BUY? (not much room left on my counter so small is good)

D.C. this coming weekend - looking for cool breakfast and lunch spots!

I'll be in D.C. this weekend for Saturday night affair but looking for a great place for LUNCH on Sat. and Sun. as well as a fun foodie breakfast place Sunday. (prefer contemporary American/farm-to-table type food) Thanks for suggestions!

SICILIAN RESTAURANTS PLEASE!

Thanks to all who replied - but to clarify - NOT looking for Italian-American cuisine....rather true Sicilian, like I'm eating in Sicily! Italian-American cuisine just won't do it for me!
Granduca di Sicilia sounds promising.......will try that first!

Looking for suggestions for really great Sicilian restaurants in NYC -
AUTHENTIC SICILIAN COOKING A MUST! Surely there must be a couple but I have read over menus and found nothing that compares with the real thing! Help appreciated!

GELATO PLEASE!

FYI, the West side Grom (Broadway) recently closed.
I wish they would open a branch on the East side - I happen to think it was quite good, albeit overpriced.

GELATO PLEASE!

Is there any place on the upper east side with good gelato? (If not, perhaps a smart venture capitalist looking for a great opportunity!)
I thought Maison Kayser would sell it but it never happened.

French or Italian on UES or UWS, where we can talk

On Second Ave. between 70th and 71st are two good choices - a small French Bistro (JEAN CLAUDE) where the food is consistently good and it's never noisy. A few doors away is BOTTEGA - excellent Italian and, by the way, great soups made without any cream or butter! Good luck!

Bakery suggestions for NYC trip?

DO have a chocolate chip cookie (or anything else!) at LEVAIN on (West 74th St), the multi-grain (or cereal bread) at MAISON KAYSER (Third Ave/74th) and an Almond Croissant at CECI-CELA in Soho! And forget about Magnolia!

Suggestions for great Mexican food (not Tacos) in Manhattan, please!

Are there any really good places for serious Mexican food - in Manhattan!
There's much more to mexican food than tacos although most NY'ers don't seem to know this! Help appreciated!

What cookbooks have you bought recently, or are you lusting after? November 2012 edition [OLD]

Yes, that's next on my list! I have ALL of Ina's books and love them.

Just got Deb's "Smitten Kitchen" and have been enjoying it...although I must say that I love the recipes on her blog just as well if not better! (but still happy she did the book because she's great!)

Any new (Good) South African restaurants?

Thanks. I"ll check it out.( I thought it would probably be impossible to have the more exotic game here but I did get to try wildebeest, warthog, impala, springbok, kudu and oryx on my recent trip and though it would be great to have a chance again now that I'm home!) But good bobotie sounds great!

Some good ways to use frozen strawberries?

Picked WAY too many strawberries last weekend and threw bunches on cookies sheets and froze them to throw into baggies. Can I bake with them after I defrost them or will they be too mushy?
Any baking suggestions are welcome - (besides making smoothies) I have to start using some!
THANKS.

Craving a lobster roll uptown to mark the beginning of being stuck in the city for the summer!

That's good to know! Had a yummy one at the Plaza food hall but the old fashioned icebox cake at Billie's Bakery brought make so many memories of my Mom's same treat that I am hoofing it back to the Plaza to have icebox cake for lunch!

Craving a lobster roll uptown to mark the beginning of being stuck in the city for the summer!

Perfect - and even more perfect, since I'm going to catch a movie at the PARIS, is that they just opened one across the street in the Plaza Food Hall! Now I got my lobster practically with my popcorn!

Craving a lobster roll uptown to mark the beginning of being stuck in the city for the summer!

Near Hunter College. One year I saw a diner on 2nd Ave. advertising lobster rolls on Memorial Day - I guess they were trying to grab everyone who hasn't left town! But now the subway construction has wiped out the place anyway!

I'd settle for a diner? Has anybody spied a lobster roll sign in a window somewhere uptown?

Thanks in advance for suggestions.

Off the Beaten Track Restaurant Finds for Our (Slightly) Off the Beaten Track Sicily Itinerary?

I checked out Gangiavecchio and I may see if, just for fun, we can take a cooking class/lunch there. I have to see what time we will arrive in that area from the previous night's location and how far it is from Villa Raino. I'm planning this trip by myself so I get a little intimidated by details at times...but I'll keep going! In any event, I will certainly report back and thanks again.
Any hints on great "little finds" (needn't/shouldn't be fancy) for our last night in Palermo - as I said, even great pizza will be marvelous! I'm already salivating on reports of cannolis in Erice!

Off the Beaten Track Restaurant Finds for Our (Slightly) Off the Beaten Track Sicily Itinerary?

Thanks for all the posting links/suggestions Jen! We are staying at Villa Raino (Gangi) for two nights. Didn't realize they served meals. What is Gangivecchio? I think we looked at it for lodging but perhaps we can eat one night there. Have you been?
