Thoughts? Last minute but we're looking for a great place to eat. We don't care so much about ambience, etc. just looking for a great wine list and (really) good food. Thank you!

Farmhouse Cafe

Hi - looking for a place to get a Farmhouse Cafe experience on a Monday night (they're closed). By "experience" I mean intimate restaurant, great food, laid-back vibe. Any last-minute suggestions? Thanks.

Dim Sum Suggestions

Hi all,

We're celebrating 4th of July with a little dim sum (always traditional) and wanted some suggestions. We've tried China Maxx, Emerald, Pearl and Jasmine, any others anyone would suggest? If not, which of these is a favorite? Thank you.

Birthday Dinner (Friday Night, Great Wine List)

Has the food at Market gotten a lot worse recently? It's been a while but we have always had a good experience in the past.

Birthday Dinner (Friday Night, Great Wine List)

Thanks very much for the recommendations - I could downgrade from "great" wine list to just a good one...we're generally very happy at Market but wanted to try something different.

Birthday Dinner (Friday Night, Great Wine List)

Any suggestions on where to take a wine director for a great birthday dinner? Was debating between Whisk & Ladle and Wine Vault, very open to any other suggestions. Thank you!

Champagne and Oysters Midweek and Midday in North County?

Thanks Beach Chick, didn't even think about the caviar, but that's a great mid-day addition!

Any suggestions on a place to get Champagne and oysters on a Tuesday around 3 or 4pm? North County preferred. Thank you!

Best Farmer's Markets in SD County

Was wondering which Farmer's Markets are considered the "best" to try in San Diego. Heard great things about Hillcrest, was disappointed by Del Mar...any thoughts?

New or Still Good Restaurants to Try in San Diego

Just wanted to thank everyone for the great suggestions. We will definitely try Wine Vault, although it seems to be closed for Memorial Day weekend (?) so won't work for our next night out.

We tried Kaito because of the great reviews on this site and loved it. Had incredible omakase there, definitely a more personal experience than Sushi Ota and the quality was amazing. Did they move away from Encinitas?

Last question - any comments about Paon Restaurant in Carlsbad Village?

Tamarind Paste/Sauce in San Diego

They do have at Ranch 99 - definitely hidden and not always in English, if you ask for help they can point you in the right direction.

New or Still Good Restaurants to Try in San Diego

Hi all, We're transplants from NY and SF that used to be pretty avid local restaurant-goers (Laja, the "old" Arterra, Sushi Ota) until we had a baby. Now that our heads are above water a bit we'd like to get back into the eating out thing and would love a few suggestions. Distance is not an issue (downtown, North County, whatever), we're just looking for really high-quality food, and probably since we're only going out when we have a babysitter we'd prefer "upscale" (if we're out we really want to enjoy it).

Especially important to us are a great wine list, ideally something like some ice cold Kumamoto oysters on the half-shell followed by a really memorable meal, roll us out the door afterwards. Any suggestions would be really appreciated. Thank you!

Squill? [Moved from Food Media & News]

Not sure if this is the right place for this question, but can anyone please tell me what squill is? Jeffrey Steingarten referred to it in "The Man Who Ate Everything", but we aren't sure exactly what it is. Mediterranean crustacean? Thank you.

Nobu in San Diego?

Can anyone confirm the rumor that the "real" Nobu is coming to the House of Blues downtown? Is it open already?

Guinness in San Diego??

Is it possible? We moved from NYC not too long ago and miss being able to go to a great place and have a serious Guinness (nice frothy head, good flavor, perfect temperature). Since we've been in California - both Northern and Southern - the only option seems to be a cheesy "Irish pub" and mediocre Guinness (we feel like we're the only ones ordering it, it tastes so old and flat and is usually served way too cold).

I'm embarrassed to even venture this, but any chance of finding a good Guinness in San Diego?

Guild San Diego

We loved Arterra and like Market, Cafe Chloe was fun and 910 is always pretty good. Where is Bite? Haven't heard of it.

Guild San Diego

I know, I know, thought I'd try it out and see what happened.

Have you tried the Guild or heard anything about it? I've been to George's and enjoyed it, but not recently - have they changed the menu?

Guild San Diego

Trying to figure out if this is a worthwhile place to try. We're serious food people, and all I keep reading about this place is that it's an interesting "experience". How's the food? Any other places we need to try in San Diego? Love Laja, Sushi Ota, Addison, Mille Fleurs, but haven't found many other places that seem worth mentioning.

The Guild

Is this restaurant worth a visit for serious eaters? I've heard a lot about it, but only based on it being an "interesting experience". We're most interested in great food, wherever we can find it in San Diego. Any thoughts?

Encinitas - New To The Area and Eating Great!

Pablo, just wanted to thank you for post you did a while back about Kaito - pictures and all. Also the advice about being respectful when ordering at the sushi bar. We love Ota and always ask for omakase, but never know if the chef will give us the really unbelievable experience or not. One week live sea snail, the next week standard fare.

Anyway, we went to Kaito the other night and had a fantastic experience. We're in F&B and came here by way of New York and San Francisco thinking the San Diego restaurant scene was just about to "happen". Sort of disappointing, but worth it when you search out gems like Kaito. Morita-san was great and once he began to trust us and experiement a little we had some unbelievably fresh and interesting fish.

Thanks again for the recommendation.
