Korean Tofu Soup (soon dubu) in Chicago?
Thanks! I guess I'll wait until I'm willing to brave the drive up to Mitsuwa (it's a bit of a schlep for me).
Korean Tofu Soup (soon dubu) in Chicago?
As a note, I saw this earlier posting just now (due to spelling mismatch I didn't see it before posting).

Korean Tofu Soup (soon dubu) in Chicago?
I just moved here and was wondering if there were good places to get soon dubu, which is a Korean tofu soup. Where I lived before (Bay Area, San Diego), the BBQ-focused places often didn't have as good soup as the more soup-oriented places.
I read some good thing about Solga but it seems more BBQ-oriented. Any places specialize in soup? Is Cho Sun Ok good?
Bigos (Hunter's Stew) in Chicago?
Oh it wasn't a request, I just happened to notice more Polish places farther up Milwaukee. I've been to Podhalanka once and it was good but didn't see the Bigos on the menu (it wasn't quite cold yet though).
Thanks for the recs! (Just moved here so am still learning the lay of the land).
Bigos (Hunter's Stew) in Chicago?
A Chicago expat friend of mine posted pictures of his bigos on facebook and now I want to try it:

Now that it's winter, is there a restaurant serving good bigos? I saw some recipes on the boards and an old discussion (pretty sparse) from 2007, but perhaps there are more suggestions now. Some place farther NW on Milwaukee perhaps?
Best mul naeng myun in San Diego?
I tried Dae Jang Keum and it was not that great, to be honest. I don't think I will try it again. Noodle Town has been replaced by Mapo BBQ Korean Cuisine. Next time I'll try Convoy Tofu House.

Best mul naeng myun in San Diego?
What with the hot summer days, I found myself craving mul naeng myun (cold buckwheat noodles in broth). However, a bit of searching has me puzzled as to where the best naeng myun might be found.
Dae Jang Keum and Noodle Town came up, but KirkK said DJK was only "ok" -- does anyone have any suggestions?

Where to find specialty dates / nuts?
I was wondering where to find specialty dates and nuts in SD. In particular, I was wondering about different pistachios. Another thing is non-medjool dates, and in particular Mazafati dates.
North Park Produce doesn't seem to have them, but I wasn't sure if there were other good places to look. Thanks!
Cocktail supplies in San Diego : bitters, liqueurs, etc
Thanks -- I can get some things from BevMo (and I do) but I was looking for something maybe smaller or more specialty.
Also, it's nice to have a conversation with the owner, which is sometimes hit (with great results) or miss (with much confusion).
Cocktail supplies in San Diego : bitters, liqueurs, etc
Where is your go-to place in San Diego where I can get interesting liqueurs, bitters, and other ingredients for classic and experimental cocktails? As an example, I recently had a cocktail with Cocchi Americano in it and would love to try making that at home.
Bitters I can order online I suppose, but it's always fun to browse in person or have a knowledgeable store owner or staff person to talk to about these things.
Halal Turkey for Thanksgiving?
For future reference, I assume this is the place you are talking about?

Halal Turkey for Thanksgiving?
Hi -- my family is cooking a Thanksgiving dinner and some of the guests only eat halal meat. Is there a good place in Chicago to buy a halal turkey? I assume somewhere on Devon would have it but good recommendations would be welcome. Thanks!
Dinner In Alameda
My research group is planning on going to dinner + bowling in Alameda (the bowling is cheaper there). I'm looking for recommendations on where to get dinner. We have one vegetarian and would prefer something not too pricey.
I've heard Bagan is good, but it would be nice to have a few options. Any recommendations?
Cevapi on International Blvd.
I've heard that there is a store/butcher on International Blvd. in Oakland that sells cevapi (Balkan mini-sausages) somewhere "near the Coliseum." Has anyone else been to this place or know its name?
Are there other groceries in the Bay Area where you can get 'em?
seattle: lunch near the westin + dinner recs
I'm at a conference at the Westin this week and was looking for some good lunch recs under $15 that are within walking distance. Local places are better -- I had an abysmal Cheesecake Factory experience last night that I'd rather not repeat.
For dinner I can go a bit farther afield, and spend more too. Are there good places to go with a group (tapas maybe?).
Thanks so much in advance!
Fried Chicken in San Francisco
I can't believe nobody has mentioned Powell's! It used to be on Hayes and Octavia but moved to a nicer (but less convenient) location on Eddy near Fillmore, I think. Service is a little slow, but the chicken is fantastic.
