Best Hot Chicken in Nashville
Are any of these places near the tourist district, or is there a reasonable place for hot chicken in that area? I am coming to Nashville this week, but I am staying at the Hilton and I won't have a car, so my dining options are limited. I'd love to try hot chicken if possible. My only plan is downstairs at Merchants, so any other recs would be fine too.
Thanks.

fish taco [Long Island]
Recently Lola in Great Neck was serving a fantastic fish taco. Their menu changes, though, so I don't know how long it will be there. 516 American Bistro used to have a good fish taco as well, but I'm not sure if the new restaurant in the same spot still has them either.
Peking Duck in Beijing
I second your experience. i dined solo at Da Dong (also the Doncheng branch) and found it to be incredibly welcoming. I ordered a half duck and a veggie dish, and would eat there again in a heartbeat. The presentation of the duck is part of the experience. I've also eaten at Quanjude (the Wangfujiang branch) and found the duck very good, but the experience was not as good as Da Dong.
One night layover at Narita airport hotel
Thanks for the great recs! Unfortunately, they came a bit late for this trip (I was there the night of the 16th and ended up eating at the airport because my hotel didn't have wireless internet and I had some work to do). However, I am going back in May and I intend to spend a few days in Tokyo so I will definitely take a look at the places that you mentioned, Ninisix.
Dustin, I am from NYC and only familiar with the basis of Japanese cuisine (sushi, curry, ramen). My price range would probably be up to about $60-$70 for a meal, although some cheaper options mixed in would help.
One night layover at Narita airport hotel
I am flying through Narita in a few weeks and I have a one night layover. I am staying at the airport Hilton but I'd love to travel to Tokyo for dinner. Can anyone recommend a good place where I can spend a few hours eating and then walking around a bit. I realize I'll have to take some type of transportation into the city, so anything near whatever train station I will be arriving at will be a plus.
If there are any don't miss places please let me know, as I will be returning later this spring for a slightly longer vist.
Thanks.

Anything new in Hanoi
I am heading back to Hanoi in a few weeks and I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for good dinners. I usually eat at least one meal at Green Tangerine and one at Hanoi Hanoi (located neare Hao Kiem lake) because it is close to my hotel. I've had many meals at Brothers and I have also eaten at the street food restaurant (can't remember the name) and the green fish restaurant. 'd love to try some new places if anyone has any recs.
Thanks.

Sirtaj is gone
I posted on this too - had the same experience - went for lunch and suddenly they're closed. Are there any other good places in the area? I've been going to Curry Leaf but I miss Sirtaj. I also like the man who worked the counter - maybe he'll turn up somehwere nearby soon.
Homemade hot sauces in Chelsea/Flatiron
This week I've been sampling some homemade hot sauces with lunch, and it occurred to me that this might be a good thread for a CH discussion. I'll divide the hot sauces into two categories - Spanish and Asian, although there may be more. Here's what I have so far in the neighborhood.
Spanish:
Sophie's (23rd east of B'way) - you have to start here, with the green hot sauce that they give you by request with any takeout order. If you eat in, they have a bottle of it on the table, which is always a bonus. It is spicy with a nice flavor, although I can't identify it.
Milanes (6th and 25th) - They have a good house-made sauce that is light bronw in color and not quite as spicy as Sophie's.
Super Taco Express (7th and 23rd) - you wouldn't think one of the fast food taco places would make the cut, but the pico de gallo here is fresh and spicy.
Asian:
I haven't explored these as much yet.
The Chinese takeout place on 7th and 23rd - their hot oil is disappointing, with no real flavor.
Pongsrii (23rd just east of 7th) - good red chili sauce, but pretty basic. I liked their pickled peppers better.
Sirtaj (now closed, but was on 26th btwn 6ht and Bway) - they had the best red onions I've tasted anywhere. I can't find anything comparable and have not idea how to make them at home. I missed the boat by not asking for the recipe, and now the place is closed. I won't make that mistake again.
Feel free to add any other recommendations you have. I'd be happy to sample hot sauces all winter.

Takeout Indian lunch in Curry Hill
Does anyone have a recommendation for a good takeout lunch from an Indian restaurant in Curry Hill? Curry Leaf has been my go to place for a while now (I love their tandoori vegetable platter) but I'm looking for a little variety. Since Sirtaj (which was close to my office) closed, I've been a little lost.
Thanks.

Bagel Hut is very good, but I would say they are second best. In my opinion, the best bagels in GN are at Bagel Man, which is located in the HMART plaza on Great Neck Rd just off Northern Blvd. Their egg onion bagels are sublime.

Kid friendly in Union Square Area?
The kids will probably love Max Brener (B'way and 13th), which is a chocolate shop and restaurant. I find the food to be fine, and the tuna salad sandwich and caesar salad are actually pretty good. I think Heartland Brewery is probably fairly kid friendly and has some vegetarian options as well.

I've only been to Kritzia once, and that was once too many. That's been my experience at all of the kosher places except for Tel Aviv, which lost its certification (because the owner also owns Lola, a non-kosher restaurant) and went out of business.
I agree that Lola is special - without a doubt the best restaurant in Great Neck. I agree that Bruce's is overpriced, but it fills a certain niche.

Turquoise serves very good fish, and you could also try the Turkish place on Welwyn Rd (Tulip?). I'm not sure either of these places serve lunch. If not, maybe Bruce's on Middle Neck Road.
Sirtaj is gone - where should I get lunch?
This afternoon, I strolled out of my office anticipating a nice plate of fish curry for lunch. However, when I got to Sirtaj (on 26th btwn 6th and Bway) it was closed with a "for rent" sign on the door. I work three blocks away, on 23rd and 6th. Can anyone recommend another Indian place for lunch? I do regularly walk over to Curry Hill, but it takes a while so I'd love a closer place if there is one.
Thanks.

Dinner with tweens in DC
Thanks for the recs.
We ended up at Central one night and Matchbox the next, both of which we all really enjoyed.
Dinner with tweens in DC
We'll be making a family pilgrimage to DC next weekend. I could use some recommendations for dinner places downtown or near the mall that would be good for pre-teens. A good burger or pizza place would work, but we can be a little more adventurous if something is highly recommended.
Thanks in advance.

One solo dinner and one lunch in Orlando
I don't know the area, but I'll check it out.
Favorite Takeout Food from Hole In the Wall/Chinese Takeout Places NOT in Chinatown
I used to love the General Tso's chicken at Dinersty (yes, this was how they spelled it) on 8th btwn 30th and 31st, but they moved a few months ago and I can't figure out where they are now. As with all General Tso's, this was basically fried chicken candy, but it always hit the spot.

Balthazar?
I went back in April, and it was as good as I remembered. The atmosphere is wonderful as well, which just adds to the experience. I'm sure you need a reservation - I went on a Wednesday night and it was packed.
One solo dinner and one lunch in Orlando
Hi everyone.
I'll be in Orlando next week and I have one dinner on my own and one lunch on the way to the airport.
I'm staying at the Hilton Bonnett Creek and I have a car.
Does anyone have any recs for good bbq that is nearby, or any other recs for great food that is good for a solo diner?
Thanks in advance.

Where to Find Whole Roast Pig?
I'm pretty sure Corner 28 in Flushing does a whole roast suckling pig. They have a sign for it in their window.

Good Burger at a Sit Down on LI?
My kids love Bobby's Burger Palace in Lake Grove (south side of the mall). It's quasi sit-down (you order and they bring it to your table). The burgers are very good, and you can get a beer for the grownups and shakes for the kids, plus they have good fries and a good salad, so it can feel more like a regular meal than a drive-thru.

dinner in northern/central nj near a train station
Can anyone make a recommendation for a good restaurant that is walking distance from a train, somewhere near Morristown or along route 80 (I'm meeting someone who is driving on 287 and 80). Any cuisine is fine.
Thanks.

Falafel - Long Island
It was gone for a while, but I just saw that it was back on the menu.
Bacon Cupcakes
Not a cupcake, but RUB serves bacon chocolate chip cookies. I bought them to a few Seders this year (the tongue-in-cheek kind, not the serious kind). They're good, but a whole cookie is a bit much.
Saigon Grill - is the coast clear?
I disagree about the food. I like Saigon Grill, but I would never describe it as authentic Vietnamese. I think of it as lighter, better Americanized Chinese food. I always make the analogy to steak - i find that Lugers is best, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy a steak somwhere else. I just think of it as a completely different thing.

One chance for dinner in Albuquerque or Santa Fe
Thanks for all the recs.
We ended up at The Range Cafe in Bernalillo because a cab to Albuqurque would have been over $200 - evidently there are no cab companies in Santa Ana Pueblo (where our hotel was located) and the hotel shuttle wouldn't go to Albuquerque. We liked the range - good margaritas and I enjoyed the green chile cheeseburger. I also thought the guacomole was very good, as was the local draft beer.
Next time I'll rent a car and convince someone else to be the driver so we can enjoy the margaritas - it'll be much cheaper than hiring a car.
