Stone Crabs on Hollywood Beach

Had stone crab at Kelly's Landing back in early Jan and it was fresh, delicious, and priced at $20 for a 1 lb appetiser.

I did AYCE medium stone crabs at Catfish Deweys last weekend for $69. Not a bad value but I'd say the quality wasn't as good as what I had at Kelly's.

I've been to Billy's as well. Quality is great, but you'd get more for your money ordering 3x app portions at Kelly's for the same $$. Nice atmosphere at Billy's, though.

AYCE Sushi Restaurant that is NOT a buffet?

I just moved to south FL (Boynton Beach) from Vegas. In Vegas, the majority of sushi places 1) are not combined with a Thai restaurant and 2) offer a made-to-order all you can eat option, where the entire menu is all you can eat, including rolls, nigiri, apps, and desserts, for about $25-30. Everything is made fresh to order, and is NOT on a buffet. Does any such place exist within a 90 minute radius?

Licence to Eat Review - Estiatorio Milos Lunch Special (with pics)

Thank you for the review, as well as the suggestions for many of the dishes with supplemental charges. I will make a point of trying the octopus and lobster pasta next time!!

If you're planning to visit Lotus of Siam this summer.......

Seems a bit daft to me to turn away customers who wish to book a table. Personally, I'm not going to risk going to Lotus of Siam with the prospect of a long wait for a table. Chada are still accepting bookings, and the food is just as good as it is at Lotus, if not better.

French and Italian Restaurant in Las Vegas.

French and Italian restaurant? I can think of lots of good French Restaurants, and lots of good Italian restaurants, but I can't think of any single restaurant that specialises in both.

SteakHouse in Las Vegas...

Mastro's is by far my favourite for food quality, flavour, and service.

Recs for Indian?

Stick with Mint. It's easily the best Indian food in town.

"Best of Las Vegas" - REALLY?!?!

You are probably right, Steve, on all counts. Even my favourite BBQ place in town is a chain (Lucille's). LOL. And, Famous Dave's is probably my 2nd favourite. Like I said, though...my point isn't that the chains aren't good. But, I think to imply that they are the "best" that Las Vegas has to offer is pretty sad.

"Best of Las Vegas" - REALLY?!?!

You are probably right and that has a bit to do with it. However, I still think it's rather small-minded.

I'm not saying that the named franchises are BAD...I just can't believe people would vote them EMBLEMATIC of the city's BEST. Why not choose one of the many local BBQ joints, which are at least as affordable and at least as good, instead of Famous Dave's? Why not choose one of our excellent local Italian restaurants (Nora's? Roma Deli? Marc's?) instead of Olive Garden?

A restaurant doesn't need to be "higher end" to be the best. But when you're going to bestow an award titled "Best of Las Vegas" onto an establishment, you'd think you'd at least want it to be not only quite good, but also the best of what is somewhat unique to Las Vegas. And to say that these mid-level chains are "best" and therefore imply that they are "better" than the local dining landscape takes a lot of credibility away from these awards, in my opinion.

"Best of Las Vegas" - REALLY?!?!

Here are the 2013 "Best of Las Vegas" award results:

http://mm.reviewjournal.com/media/mag...

However, considering the reader picks for "Best Italian Restaurant" (Olive Garden), "Best Seafood Restaurant" (Red Lobster), "Best Chinese Restaurant" (P.F. Chang's), "Best Steakhouse" (Outback Steakhouse), and "Best BBQ" (Famous Dave's), I'd take these awards with a grain of salt - AT BEST!!

To the Las Vegas locals who voted in these awards: come on, folks! You live in Las Vegas!! And, you think these mediocre chains are the best this city has to offer? Las Vegans ought to be ashamed of themselves!! Bloody hell!!

Best Indian restaurant?

My favourite is Mint Indian Bistro. Having been to India a few times, I can tell you that they do southern Indian dishes, such as dosa and their Andhra curry, exceptionally well, but I've yet to have a bad dish here.

Their lunch buffet is also above average.

On the other hand, I found Origin India to be the most overpriced, overrated Indian food I've ever had.

Sushi Mon - 2 Locations?

The Sushi Mon on Sahara is NOT related to the Sushi Mon in Henderson. The Sushi Mon in Henderson, in my opinion, is far superior. However, if you are on the west side, then try Sushi House Goyemon, which IS related to the Sushi Mon in Henderson. Sushi House Goyemon also offers some menu items not available at Sushi Mon in Henderson, like grilled pork belly, crispy rice tuna, and ramen (ramen only after 10 or 11pm). These "extra" menu items are included in the AYCE price. Goyemon also has a superior sake list, as well. Goyemon and Sushi Mon Henderson also use the same punch card, so your punches from both locations count towards your freebie.

Also, for what it's worth, Sushi House Goyemon and Sushi Mon in Henderson are also both related to Monta Ramen.

Northwest casual group get-together?

So you've obviously found your place, but in case of future needs, check out the Market Grille Cafe at N Durango/Elkhorn for greek food. They have a nice private party room and I'm sure would accommodate similar needs, in case you're looking for something different next time.

Bacchanal Buffet - CRAPPY CRAB

...or stay out until closing, for that matter.

I also don't buy the excuses mentioned above. Bellagio never seem to have a problem stocking their King Crab to sufficient levels...and they don't charge as much. ;-)

French Fries

Is there anywhere here in Vegas that double-fry their fries, i.e., Belgian/Dutch style frites, and serve them with mayo-based frite-saus? :)

Bacchanal Buffet - CRAPPY CRAB

Sorry, Mr Taster, but I disagree. People deserve to be aware that King Crab availability is inconsistent at best. They also deserve to be aware that quality, at least on my last visit, was in the toilet.

To say that "Bacchanal absolutely, positively, 100% offers king crab" is not true if you need to qualify it with "just not all the time", or "seasonally", etc.

What IS absolutely true is that King Crab may or may not be available when you go. Sometimes they have it, and other times they don't.

What is also absolutely true was that it was not present during the visit I reported.

If the reports on this board were to be "cleaned up" so it appeared that King Crab availability was a sure thing, now...that would be a lie, wouldn't it?

Bacchanal Buffet - CRAPPY CRAB

https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...

I will let these pictures and the descriptions speak for themselves. In short, however, the once mighty Bacchanal Buffet has quickly gone from "Best Buffet" to "Best Bust" for your money. There's no self-respect here anymore, and Caesars obviously doesn't care. Don't waste your $45 on this crap. Wynn, Bellagio...heck...even Main Street Station on Seafood Night is SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER. What a shame!! This was disgusting...and the rest of the buffet is quickly following suit. :(

Bank Atcharawan's Chada Thai To Open on October 12

Both are great in different ways. Chada is a different experience to LOS. Different dishes, different flavour profile. And, I'd say the portions are a little smaller at Chada, lending themselves well to ordering more dishes and sharing amongst the table. So, no...I wouldn't say that one is a slam dunk over the other. However, at the moment, Chada gets the edge from me because the flavours were so bold, and whilst LOS was fully booked last Saturday night, I was able to get a table at Chada with ease.

Bank Atcharawan's Chada Thai To Open on October 12

O.M.G.!! If you like Thai food, or just well prepared food in general, then get ye to Chada Thai & Wine, and make haste!! I just had dinner here tonight, and the food just had flavour!! Some of the dishes had so many layers and layers of different sensations that it really made my taste buds dance. Chada is now one of my favourites in Vegas, and maybe anywhere.

Standouts:

MIANG POU
Lettuce wrap, crab meat, ginger, roasted coconut, peanut, lime and onion

PANANG CURRY
Slow cook beef in Panang curry
^ Not your typical rendition of this dish. This one actually had depth to it beyond coconut milk and dried chilis. Sweet, savoury, hot, and just wonderful.

SEABASS TOD KRUENG
Pan fried and glazed with chili paste
^ Chili paste was hot, but not overwhelming. Seabass was very fresh, cooked perfectly, with it's butteryness a perfect counterpart to the slightly sweet/hot chili.

SEN MEE KANG POU
Crab curry served with thin rice noodle
^ Lots of crab meat, and the shellfish flavour really came through. Very well-balanced.

There was also a ribeye steak salad that I don't see on their web site menu (it's not any of the ones on there). It was 2nd or 3rd item from the bottom, far left hand column of their menu in the restaurant, and absolutely fabulous!!

MOO HONG
Braised pork belly, black soy sauce, palm sugar, black pepper
^ Probably the weakest dish of the bunch. Not bad by any means...but just not quite at the same level as the rest.

The place was nearly empty when we were there (Saturday night, 8pm). There is no excuse for this. With the quality they're putting on the plate, it should be booked solid.

Scarpetta anyone?

Ha! Yup, that was probably me, then. Our booking was at 12:30.

The made-to-order items were fantastic...probably the best french toast rendition I've ever had. The eggs benedict was brilliant with the truffle. And the creamy polenta egg made me like polenta, which I normally do not.

Scarpetta anyone?

What time were you there? Did you see an Asian guy waiting for plates at the same time? Might have been me. :)

I thought the brunch was quite good and worth the price of the voucher. Not sure I would've been quite as happy paying full price. However, I ate mostly seafood, leg of lamb, spaghetti, seafood, dessert, cheese, the made to order items from the menu, and seafood. So...

Indonesian Rijstafel in Los Angeles?

So, $70-80 total for two?

Indonesian Rijstafel in Los Angeles?

Any idea re: prices here?

Scarpetta anyone?

Yes, I did. The voucher, itself, says to mention it when booking.

Indonesian Rijstafel in Los Angeles?

Are there any places in the LA area that serve an Indonesian Rijstafel (Rice Table)?

Scarpetta anyone?

P.S. Can anyone who has been here before enlighten me as to the parking situation? We Las Vegans don't like to pay for parking. :-P
