Pizzeria Bianco‎ - wait?

A friend and I tried to go last Saturday evening and were told there was a three hour wait. Another friend and I were able to walk in after the Diamondback's game Friday night and were seated immediately. I am a long-time fan of Bianco, and it's still very good, but the Rosa I had wasn't the to die for pie it was when Chris made it. I thought the Spedini was missing the magic too, but my friend absolutely loved it.

Phoenix Spring Restaurant Week - Where will you be eating?

Went with two friends last night and the included cocktail was a Mango Serrano Mojito. We all agreed it's excellent! The peach shortcake dessert stood out too, tasty, fresh and not overly sweet. The portions are generous and it's always a bonus to find a restaurant with patio seating that's far from a roadway.

Anise closed

Thanks ciaogal. Will see if I can find out for sure.

Anise closed

The owner posted on their Google listing:

"Dear customers, We are sad to cease our service to you all, as of 12/31/2010. Thank you for your supports. We could no longer sustain the high rent incurred. - From the owner"

Chandler / Vietnamese -- Hot Spots

Thanks hohokam. Unfortunately I just found out that Anise has closed. They left a message on their Google page.

Chandler / Vietnamese -- Hot Spots

I highly recommend Anise in general. It's one of the few restaurants of any kind where I have to close my eyes and blindly poke at the menu to decide what to order. It could be that it's too Americanized, I don't know enough to say but everything I've had there was a winner. The ingredients are so fresh I'd believe they have a greenhouse in the back.

Pitta Souvli - Chandler, AZ

Just tried Pitta Souvli today for a quick takeout lunch. Good rec on the black bean hummus. I definitely will go back.

Over Easy / Sack's

Just drove up to the Sack's location in Arcadia to discover it's gone and Over Easy has moved into it's spot.

I loved the Taco Bell renovation, not sure the new Over Easy will have that ambience.

As for Sack's, I called and was informed that they will reopen on a 42nd Street and Indian School location in December. They are making deliveries for the time being.

A lot of people slammed Sack's when I mentioned them before but I've only found a better egg salad at Liberty Market.

Glass-bottled milk?

Kinda off topic, but I just had a bad experience with Shamrock. A gallon of their whole milk went sour before the expiration and I had just opened it. I bought another size at a different store and it started to sour before the expiration as well. The expiration date was the same. A friend had the same experience. We both contacted Shamrock and they sent us coupons. Milk is expensive for people with low incomes and I thought they should have recalled the affected batches so I notified a local news station. That got me a call from Shamrock and the explanation that a machine they use to make the milk keep longer had malfunctioned. The shock to me is that they stated it was an "extra step" to make the milk have a 19 day shelf life rather than 10-12 that other dairies do.

One could argue that this is a good safety measure. I grew up in the Reno and Tahoe and never saw food go bad as quickly as it does here. One of the first things I noticed was how fast milk started to turn. One could also argue this is a bad thing, how does this step affect nutritional value? As for taste, I'm always throwing out milk because I don't like the taste of it but I've never stopped to pay attention to what brands taste better or worse.

All things being equal I'd love to buy from a local dairy and not get milk from one of the two national mega wholesalers who are both suspected of anti-competetive business practices. Shamrock though, has been in trouble before for recycling expired milk into their flavored milks.

Review: Lo-Lo's Chicken and Waffles - Phoenix, Arizona

Reminds me of how much was lost when Happy Bowl moved out of the University Avenue location. It wasn't the same after that.

On the other hand, much was gained when Pizzeria Bianco moved to Heritage Square from Town & Country Mall.

Pizzeria Bianco – Is Chris Bianco More Hands-Off These Days? (PHX)

Stay away, stay very, very far away from that place.

The Rosa is my favorite pizza. Ever.

Saturday LUNCH in Vegas - in the same vein as Raku

Went to Firefly last night. I so wanted to love it but nope.

There's a smell as you walk in, an old, rotten, industrial restaurant smell. Unappetizing.

The place is an attempt at swanky modern design but is noticeably on the cheap.

The menu lists a variety of appealing selections, but the food doesn't live up to it.

The service was nice but scattershot. We got most of our tapas before we got our pitcher of sangria.

The sangria was good.

Best Restaurants Close By Us? (Chandler, AZ)

Anise Vietnamese on the NW corner of Warner and Dobson. The Noodle Nest is my current favorite, but that changes every time I try something different there.

Recent experiences at Liberty Market? (Gilbert, AZ)

Had a lunch there with my IT staff today and even the grumpy guy thoroughly enjoyed it. The hip I'm-a-Mac guy is is bringing his wife back for dinner tonight. The I-don't-like-sandwiches guy devoured his Rancher. The redneck guy came close to licking his plate.

If you like egg salad, Liberty's is excellent, with big chunks of yolks along with the whites.

Crave Arizona - who's booth was that?

I've only been there twice for restaurant week and felt our meals were great values for the event, though the steaks were better last year.

Crave Arizona - who's booth was that?

That's it! Not a big fan of ceviche, let my friend have mine.

Crave Arizona - who's booth was that?

Thanks! I'm sure you have it right, now I remember the seared tuna and the shrimp and wonderful, yummilicious short ribs. The Four Seasons win me over again as Talavera has also been wonderful both this year and last during Restaurant Week. The food is very good, the service as friendly as can be and that patio view overlooking the property and northern Scottsdale is lovely. Crescent Moon just got bumped up to my short list.

So I wonder where the pork belly came from? There were small pieces in a little plastic cup with what looked to be home made corn nuts. Hmm...

Best Breakfast Buffets in Vegas?

I liked Spice Market better than Bellagio but both were over $20. The food seemed more fresh.

Crave Arizona - who's booth was that?

Does anyone who went to Crave Arizona remember who the restaurant was that served the Pork Belly with Mac 'n' Cheese? Was that Cooperstown or another restaurant that was next to it? They also had a mango cheesecake lollipop, it was all very good.

Thanks!

Best Things to Eat in Phoenix

Second the Spiedini! Bianco's Rosa is my all time favorite pizza.

Platano Frito con Crema and Frijoles at Eliana's. Try the pupusas too.

Favorite Central Phx hole in the wall Mexican?

More than a few years ago I lived in Coronado and dined at Hacienda regularly. They won Phoenix New Times Best (Chicken) Mole about a year after opening, it was my favorite dish there. Like Carolina's, I ignored the neighbors.

Downtown Phoenix lunch options

I was excused, so just today. Went to Hanny's and really liked it. Will have to find a way to go to The Breadfruit.

Jury duty has its perks, we reported in by 10:30, got out at 4:30 and had 90 minutes for lunch!

Downtown Phoenix lunch options

Thanks everyone for your replies. I tried Hero Factory for lunch and it was very good, and their staff was cordial. I was full on half a sub.

Due to a water main break, I get to go back at least one more day. Can't decide where yet.

BTW, the gnocchi at Pasta Bar is outstanding!

Downtown Phoenix lunch options

Need recs for a lunch, possibly several, preferably walking distance from 2nd Avenue and Jefferson. Will have an hour including walking time.

I like almost everything but don't have a big appetite.

If I get selected I could be going there for several days, I'll switch between taking the light rail and driving. Durant's, Lo-Lo's, Coronado Cafe and Carolina's are long time favorites, would like to find places I haven't been that are only open for lunch and/or weekdays.

Hanny's is on my radar so far. Seems to far to walk, is there better?

Thanks!

Fresh figs in Phoenix?

I don't have recipes but I'll trade for some pecans, they start dropping in late November.

Best Sandwich in Phx?

And the egg salad( the Dali), the BLAT (the Jazz) and the veggie (the Impressionist) are also very good.

I'm not sure there's one worthy of legend here yet, still I'm happy with Sacks, Dilly's and Uncle Sam's. Otherwise I'd rather forget the bread and have a split single Chicken Salad with pasta at In Season Deli.

PIZZERIA BIANCO

I'm not a vegetarian but don't have to have meat. The Rosa is my favorite pizza (or white pizza) of all time.

phx: are there any non-chain kitchen stores left?

So sad. i had thought about taking days off to take classes there, they looked fun.

Pie (Phx)

I tried Rock Springs about a year ago, wasn't blown away. But I had also heard that it had changed ownership and wasn't what it used to be. I didn't try the Jack Daniel's pecan though, I will give it another try.

Tempe hole-in-wall recs???

Had the same dilemma last Saturday. We settled on House of Tricks and while it wasn't quick, it was over the top delish! If you do have an hour and a half, you can make it, there's public parking right across the street from the restaurant and after dinner walk straight down Forrest through ASU's campus to Gammage.
