Tasting menu for our one dinner in New York - that won't break the bank

I recommend Babbo. You can do either the regular tasting menu or the pasta tasting menu. Easily under $150/pp including wine and delicious.

Taste Pavilions

Otis,

Thanks so much for the ticket. We went today and had an enjoyable time. We got full before we were able to finish the "slow dough". One particular highlight was the coffee tasting. They were very knowledgeable and patient with our questions.

Also thanks for the recommendations on the pickles pavilion, they're amazing.

Thanks again.

New Clementine?

I would like to find out if anyone knows that the new Clementine offers prix-fixe like Chapeau or a la carte only?

I read SF eater's review but it doesn't specify there. Has anyone else been since the take over? How does the food compare to Chapeau?

Thanks.

Cyrus Alternatives

Not sure if you'll make the trek over to the Napa side, but sharing plates at Ad Hoc might be a good idea for family reunion. Although, it might beat the purpose of a full blown tasting menu. If the tasting menu is the main objective, Redd might be another option.

Cocktail "flight" at Bourbon & Branch?

Mine would be the - Old Fashioned, Black Manhattan, Sazerac

Waterfront Restaurant/reception venues

I had my wedding reception at the Waterfront. It was great! We took the whole upper floor and the patio for dancing afterwards. Talk to Cheryl, she's great.

Casual, but Memorable rec's for 1 night in S.F.?

As fun as Cha Cha Cha is, the 17 yo might feel left out as the Sangria is what makes the food better.

Some suggestions would be Thai House Express on Larking or Shalimar at Polk. Those will probably not break the bank but still offer delicious food options.

Chris Cosentino's Cooking at Incantato - anyone?

It's one of our favorite restaurants, esp. the Mrs. So far the more "adventurous" dishes turns out to be better than the "safer" ones.

Asanebo on a Sunday? Should we go?

I know that there are many warnings on not to go to sushi places on Sunday. Have anyone been to Asanebo on a Sunday night? What's the experience?

We'll be coming from the Bay area and would really love to try this highly recommended place, alas, Sunday is the only night that's available for us now.

Thanks for the feedback.

Is Yummy Yummy yummy yummy?

Their combination salad is yummy.

Is Yummy Yummy yummy yummy?

It's as yummy as Yummy Yummy can be.

Chris Cosentino's Cooking at Incantato - anyone?

Amuses? Really? We can't count ourselves as regulars, but we didn't get any amuses either. We sat at the bar that night and Cosentino was right next to us managing the kitchen.

Chris Cosentino's Cooking at Incantato - anyone?

The pig trotters with foei gras we had last week was decadent.

Vegas - Apps & Drinks for dinner

Thanks for all the recs. Mix is another options also. Just bought tickets for the Phantom at 9:30, so probably have to do all of these early. Or some of them closes late?

Great Coffee in LA?

Thanks! Great recommendations and explanations. Looks like LA Mill might be it.

Great Coffee in LA?

Arriving at 8am by plane and looking for a place anywhere between LAX and San Gabriel for great coffee where we can sit and enjoy great coffee.

Any recs?

Thanks

Report (day 4 and 5) of Van hound's April 2008 trip to SF

Somehow Thai House Express is good on some days and not on some. IIRC, Thursdays and Sundays have never been great, but still good. Other days they're excellent.

Vegas - Apps & Drinks for dinner

Hi hounds,

We'll be visiting Vegas from SF next week for 3 days. Have reservations for DB for Friday night. So for Saturday dinner, instead of a full dinner at one the restaurants, I was thinking of hitting up a couple of nice restaurants and go to the bar for apps and drinks. From my research so far, Bubble Bar and Aureole sounds like a good start. Does anyone have any other recs?

Thanks!

Oyster Pancake (Oh jian) in Singapore recs?

Thanks guys. That's great to know. I'm excited about my trip this time and would love to try many different things, old and new.

Newton is probably a good idea also for my Oh Jian craving. Also I remember there's a good "Chai Tow Kue" stall there, I wonder if it's still there. I think it's the white version rather than the dark version. If it's still there, any of you know what's the stall name and number?

I'd also probably be visiting Lavender Food Center for sentimental reasons, any recommendations on what's good there?

Thanks So much!

Oyster Pancake (Oh jian) in Singapore recs?

It's my first time being back in Singapore after 12 years, and looking for a great place for Oh Jian. I just can't find any good versions in the bay area, even Nyonya in NYC doesn't make it as good as I remember in Singapore.

Also, is Boon Tong Kee still the place to go for Hainan Chicken Rice?

Thanks

Carnitas in the East Bay?

My favorite is Axtlan Taqueria in Oakland. Good crisp. Best to order as a plate rather than in a burrito or taco.

Please critique my itinerary!!

Bodega Bistro is in a kindda sketchy area, just so the OP will be prepared.

Saving Wine?

What's the best, fastest way to rewarm a red after a day in the fridge?

Proper Etiquette?

When bringing a bottle of wine for dinner at the restaurant, should the person who brings the wine taste it, or should the guest of honor taste it?

Which is better?

Thanks

am i going to dumpling hell?! (long)

How long did you steam the XLB? I usually steam them for around 12 mins, works quite well.

Syrah for potential client?

I'm very happy to report back that the client was thrilled with the wine gift and recognizes it as an exceptional wine worthy of special occasions. We'll have to wait and see if the contract comes.

Thanks for all the responses.

Syrah for potential client?

Planning to gift it this week, will report back on the reaction. Whether or not I get the contract might take a little longer.

Syrah for potential client?

Thank you all for the excellent recs. I finally got a bottle of the Shafer Relentless. Actually the store owner recommends the Lewis Cellars Ethan's vineyard, he said it is as good and cost $30 less. However, he also said that the Shafer is harder to find and that sealed the deal.

Thanks again.

Fried Pork Chop in East Bay?

Fried pork chop over rice in Spices III in Oakland Chinatown is really good.
