Empellon Cocina Review

Well, I think the portion sizes vary, so the value probably depends on what you order. I was pretty full after the masa crips ($3) and the lobster which comes with tortillas ($19) but the squid (I think this was $17) was not a very big portion. I was definitely full/satisfied after my meal though.

10 days of lunches and best "foodie places" this days

I agree with NoMad, Del Posto, The Modern, and Jean Georges. I'd also add Marea and Le Bernardin -- both have pretty good lunch deals.

Empellon Cocina Review

I ate here solo last night. Nice, casual space with good service. As for the food, I was pretty impressed. I started off with the masa crisps, which were fantastic -- perfectly crispy. I had them with the smoky and sweet salsa borracha.

As described above, the melted tetilla cheese with lobster and tomatoes was really memorable. It was a bit hard to eat because it oozed out of the tortilla, so I ate a lot with my spoon. It was also nice on the masa crisps. Anyway, everything married really well together and with the tortillas it became a somewhat filling dish.

Finally, I had the squid with mole. Like Kathryn, I found the squid to be perfectly cooked. Also, the potatoes were flavorful with a great texture. I found the mole to be subtle, so I liked the combination with the flavorful chorizo mayo very much.

I'll definitely be going back with friends soon -- there are quite a few other dishes I'd like to try.

NoMad vs EMP for 50th dinner

I've only been there once, but I thought it was up to snuff, especially the Egg and quinoa dish. It's definitely more casual than EMP, but the service is still very attentive and friendly. I don't think you can go wrong at either place.

Dinner at Jean Georges and Daniel!

At JG I'd recommend the tuna ribbons, suckling pig, and parmesan chicken.

I would definitely try to get into Le Bernadin and EMP. If you can't get a dinner reservation, try for lunch. I'd also recommend the Modern.

Humm and Guidara's Nomad

This is my first post. I ate at Nomad a few nights ago and was very impressed, so I thought I'd give my thoughts. I was all set to order the chicken for 2, but my friend had to cancel last minute, so I'll have to save that for another visit. The onion and potato flatbread was delicious, as advertised. A nice contrast in texture between the crispy exterior and the soft interior.

Next I had the Egg with toasted quinoa, brown butter sabayon, asparagus, and parmesan. Each bite was a bit different, but it was all delicious. I've eaten at EMP and was very impressed with my meal, but this dish beat anything I've had there.

My main was the suckling pig with apricots, onions, and mustard seeds. The skin was so crisp that it was difficult to cut (I mean this as a compliment), but the meat was so tender that it broke apart as soon as my fork hit it. My expectations were high after reading other people's reviews of the dish. It met my expectations, but didn't exceed them (if that makes any sense).

In sum, the decor, service, and food at Nomad were great.
