College visit...first time in Seattle!

Hotel Murano is nice. There is also a Silver Cloud down on Ruston Way (aka the waterfront).

College visit...first time in Seattle!

I'd head to the Museum of Flight on Friday instead of wasting time on our freeway battling traffic up to Everett and back.

You're still spending A LOT of time on the freeway positing yourself in Seattle instead of the Tacoma area. There's a lot to do down there and you could even take the train up to Seattle if you absolutely must on Friday.

Local knowledge needed: beer near University of Puget Sound, Tacoma

There's a Safeway on Proctor. Only like 6ish blocks away.

Coyle's Bakeshop

I hope it's just they don't have their stuff quite together. I would be hard pressed to make any bake shop a destination unless they can pretty much guarantee that certain things (or at least more than 3 things) be available.

Grocery Store Roasted Chicken - Who has the best?

I like the QFC chickens a lot better than the Fred Meyer chickens and they're both Kroger stores. I will not buy chickens from Safeway due to their texture and the last few I have gotten from Freddies (their Wholesome brand and their "normal" ones) have both had a really weird texture to them.

aloha all- specific happy hour request

Betty has a great happy hour but do get there on their early side. We tried to show up at about 5:30 the other day and the place was already packed.

La Carta de Oaxaca - good?

You should be able to find a cab easily in either Ballard or Capitol Hill. If not there's always Uber.

La Carta de Oaxaca - good?

Not a fan and we live on Queen Anne and it's very very easy for us to patronize them. We do eat often at Laredos though.

Skillet Ballard

I avoid them at all costs and their Armory location always is busy when the kid and I are looking for lunch after the museum or PacSci.

Trader Joe's YAY/MEH/NAY - February 2015 [old]

Omg. Going today to look for the cookies. Next to shortbread linzers are my fave.

What's your regional fry sauce and what do you like?

Curry ketchup or mayo for me. Sometimes tartar but rarely.

Salmon without breaking the bank

Here in Seattle, our local Costco has the Trident brand of frozen fish items (Trident is a local company). Along with Salmon Patties, there are a few other types of flash frozen cuts of different fish. Frozen wild fish is always a better value than the fresh stuff.

Seattle-Portland lunch recs

Bar the logistical nightmare and the excessive amount of needless driving I also question whether or not there is a significant enough of a price difference to offset a car rental and AT LEAST 6 hours (+) of driving (3 hrs each way from the airport). I'd suggest flying from another LA area airport direct into PDX.

Retire where?

Coastal Oregon towns tend to be a little isolated from any larger city and can have some pretty dismal late fall-early summers. Unless you're looking for rain and wind.

Homegrown Sustainable Sandwich Shop - woohoo or wah wah?

Also not a fan and there's one near my home. I think my issue is something about their bread. Or something...I've never tried their breakfast offerings though.

cooked burgers, in and out of fridge twice, still safe?

I would have tossed them after reheating the first time.

Mandatory municipal composting: how do you handle your food scraps?

I swear the flyer we got had NONE of that info. Honestly though I will admit I didn't read it very closely...

Mandatory municipal composting: how do you handle your food scraps?

The under sink container seems like a great option, alas we have a heat vent that runs under our kitchen cabinet that is below our sink. Pretty sure that would get nasty rather quickly.

I'd like to point out that the "fine" is $1. ONE FREAKING DOLLAR. (yes, I hate sorting my composting...)

North American destination city for culinary vacation with young kids?

I was going to suggest Vancouver also. Chicago could be fun as could Charleston. And yes, I have a three year old.

Ethan Stowell Restaurants, Seattle, thoughts?

I really liked MKT when we went there. The rest are ok.

A & J Meats Closed--Who's Picking Up the Slack?

Owens meats has some good options, their teriyaki chicken is tasty, but I'm not a huge fan of their other stuff. My family buys from them on our way to the cabin though.

I'd love to know. I ran out of bacon last weekend. Apparently my stash wasn't large enough!

What do you not order in restaurants...

I find my omelettes pale in comparison to a nice greasy one off of a griddle. It could be the hashbrowns that come with it :)

Trader Joe's YAY/MEH/NAY - December 2014 [OLD]

Sad. I bought two more tins on Thursday at our TJ and hid them downstairs. I intend on not sharing and sneaking one when I do the laundry!
