Your Thanksgiving Menu for 2014

Brown sugar glazed ham
Baked potato bar
Park House rolls
Brussels Sprout thingy
Marie Calendar Razzelberry Pie (clutch...)

Pretty simple. Low clean up. I've got a 3 year old and 10 people coming over. Pretty sure we'll end up with a salad also.

A Walrus and the Carpenter sanity check

Queen Anne Hill is about a 10.5% grade and close to 300 feet of elevation gain. Nothing to snarf at.

I run the West Ewing Park to Lake Union Park along Westlake all the time. It's scenic...when it's not blowing sideways rain :)

A Walrus and the Carpenter sanity check

The walk wouldn't be bad if you walked up the water and then took a cab from somewhere like the sculpture garden to Ballard. And then walked again. Interbay is not the most appealing walk (it's a 5+ lane road). And it may be rainy and cold.

Crab . Your favorite ways to prepare ?

I'm a big fan of steamed crab, homemade mayo and a bottle of good champagne.

Ballard Traffic--Can the Restos Survive?

Fully agree taking an Uber is easy...unless you have a kid who needs a car seat. And there we have a hassle.

Ballard Traffic--Can the Restos Survive?

Such good visual images!!!

Honestly we've started walking to QA Ave from our QA home and having dinner/drinks there. Let's us both drink and not have to have worry about getting home and our preschooler thinks it's fun walking to dinner. Leaving our hood has become a complete hassle most nights.

A & J Meats Closing

Luckily they own the building...so a little less likely it would become a bank.

Tacoma decent eats?

Fujiya has been excellent since I was tiny. And that's going on 30 years or more. Yum yum yum!

Trader Joe's YAY/MEH/NAY - November 2014 [Old]

I can't figure out if I like the Salted Caramel gelato. The Haagen dazs one is exceptionally good...and has carmel swirl in it. Granted you only get a pint though...

What bygone food fad do you still enjoy? [NYC]

Procuitto and melon
Beets and goat cheese salad
Fully loaded baked potato (foil wrapped with whipped butter)

Jason Franey to Leave Canlis as Owners Launch National Chef Search

As astute as the observation is (and I agree with it) honestly how do you get/find/retain a chef for a long duration? And what's long? 10 years? Inventive chefs who can execute quality "modern" food along with the classics that a place like Canlis deserves to serve must be few and far between. I feel like either you get progressive food or you get classic food. It's hard to do both.

Do you really eat less food if it’s higher quality?

And as much as I would like to down more stinky cheese I can totally pack away medium cheddar slices till the cows come home.

If they tear down Bleachers I'd have a cow!

I would have to add The Dock to the list. With Brooks going in on that corner of Stone Way, I don't see the little strip mall across the street lasting much longer and with it I would say The Dock would go.

Ballard Grill?
Pacific Inn?

Best Lasagna in Seattle?

I had Cafe Lago's a few weeks ago. Delicious! And I love the fact they offer a 1/2 portion.

Search for greyelf's thread from a few months ago. A lot of great information.

My Seattle Report

Rays is good when the weather is great, you can sit on the deck and it's happy hour. Kind of a trifecta. Otherwise I totally agree that it kinda sucks.

My Seattle Report

MKT in Tangeltown is super yummy (near Greenlake). Mussels and frites at Brouwers is also delightful.

Ballard Traffic--Can the Restos Survive?

Haha, sounds perfect. Although I have never stepped foot in Targy's...

For us, if we really want to hit our head on a wall we just try to eat in LQA...almost as bad as Ballard yet much closer to home. The other night for my birthday we were going to go to Ballard and decided to just walk up to Betty (and had a great meal) so we could drink and walk home. It was a great night and no headache.

My big issue is grocery shopping. We usually go to Freddies since Safeway sucks. Guess I'm totally converting to Met Mart and Trader Joes...

Ballard Traffic--Can the Restos Survive?

We live on QA and rarely go across the bridge(s) (Fremont too) for restaurants. Way too much work.

Need help for Seattle Thanksgiving itinerary

We just had a horrid meal at Chandlers a few months ago. I would not recommend going there at all. Daniels is a steakhouse, just like El Gaucho. Honestly nothing overtly special about either of them. El Gauch so so dark I usually fall almost asleep there. I've never been to Aqua.

Out of those choices they're all a little pedestrian.

Need help for Seattle Thanksgiving itinerary

First off, Elliott's closes on October 1st due to our seawall being rebuilt and should be closed for something like 9 months so you need to make other plans since that's no longer an option.

Opentable usually is your best bet, besides calling restaurants themselves, to find out what is actually open and if you come back with a couple of options I'm sure we can voice our opinions on what's your best bet.

Brunswick and Hunt

Per myballard.com:
"Brunswick & Hunt will feature a 49-seat restaurant with a large back bar manufactured by the Brunswick-Balke-Collender Co. A mural called “The Hunt”, which was found in a tavern in Winlock, will also play a key role in the design aesthetic."
