In Praise of Dives, or... Another One Bites the Dust

I would have to add The Dock to the list. With Brooks going in on that corner of Stone Way, I don't see the little strip mall across the street lasting much longer and with it I would say The Dock would go.

Ballard Grill?
Pacific Inn?

Best Lasagna in Seattle?

I had Cafe Lago's a few weeks ago. Delicious! And I love the fact they offer a 1/2 portion.

My Seattle Report

Rays is good when the weather is great, you can sit on the deck and it's happy hour. Kind of a trifecta. Otherwise I totally agree that it kinda sucks.

My Seattle Report

MKT in Tangeltown is super yummy (near Greenlake). Mussels and frites at Brouwers is also delightful.

Ballard Traffic--Can the Restos Survive?

Haha, sounds perfect. Although I have never stepped foot in Targy's...

For us, if we really want to hit our head on a wall we just try to eat in LQA...almost as bad as Ballard yet much closer to home. The other night for my birthday we were going to go to Ballard and decided to just walk up to Betty (and had a great meal) so we could drink and walk home. It was a great night and no headache.

My big issue is grocery shopping. We usually go to Freddies since Safeway sucks. Guess I'm totally converting to Met Mart and Trader Joes...

Ballard Traffic--Can the Restos Survive?

We live on QA and rarely go across the bridge(s) (Fremont too) for restaurants. Way too much work.

Need help for Seattle Thanksgiving itinerary

We just had a horrid meal at Chandlers a few months ago. I would not recommend going there at all. Daniels is a steakhouse, just like El Gaucho. Honestly nothing overtly special about either of them. El Gauch so so dark I usually fall almost asleep there. I've never been to Aqua.

Out of those choices they're all a little pedestrian.

Need help for Seattle Thanksgiving itinerary

First off, Elliott's closes on October 1st due to our seawall being rebuilt and should be closed for something like 9 months so you need to make other plans since that's no longer an option.

Opentable usually is your best bet, besides calling restaurants themselves, to find out what is actually open and if you come back with a couple of options I'm sure we can voice our opinions on what's your best bet.

Brunswick and Hunt

Per myballard.com:
"Brunswick & Hunt will feature a 49-seat restaurant with a large back bar manufactured by the Brunswick-Balke-Collender Co. A mural called “The Hunt”, which was found in a tavern in Winlock, will also play a key role in the design aesthetic."

We need 2 great dinners (and a breakfast)! Downtown/Belltown

I tried Ellenos at the Queen Anne Farmers Market (it's on Thursdays 3-7) last week and had the boysenberry "crumble". The berry portion was a little bland, the crumble was good and the plain yogurt that was blended into it was tart (I like tart so that was an OK surprise). I would be open to trying other flavors, especially to see if any of them has a sweetness to them a la dessert taste.

Kids and Allergies - long and a bit of a rant.

Our preschool, kids aged 3-5, has a blanket ban on nuts and has sent a letter home stating if your child has any allergy to food above and beyond nuts then you/they need to provided their own snacks and/or lunch (depending on the grade). I think this is reasonable. One girl has an allergy to strawberries and even at age 3 won't eat pink/red fruit. Knowing that, on our snack day I'm not going to send pink fruit, maybe blueberries instead but that's just being nice. At least I'm not being forced to.

Marination Ma Kai for a Sunday lunch?

It's a foot ferry and there isn't really anything else right around where the ferry lets out and Marination there. a 30 minute + walk around the tip of Alki will get you to the rest of the Alki area. The views are great.

Another option is to take the ferry to Bainbridge (great views of the skyline to and from) and eat at Hitchcock Deli or the like there in Bainbridge.

The best place to find... In Seattle

2. Does Kidd Valley still have the blackberry shake? They usually have seasonal ones.

3. Confectionery in U Village.

5. Krispy Kreme is gross. At least take it up a rung and go to Top Pot (downtown or Queen Anne)

6. What the eff is an icing shot?

Any recommendations to check out before dinner Lark at 5:30 pm on this Saturday

Honestly with 99 closed this weekend starting Friday at 10pm through the following Wednesday it's going to impact traffic coming and going through the city. Combine that with Mariner's traffic I would seriously consider sticking close to Lark and not killing time on the Eastside and having to deal with the traffic. One accident on I5 and you're going to be in some seriously tough traffic.

1st time in Seattle, need (mostly restaurant) suggestions that are in walking/easy public transit distance from our hotel

Read this thread. A TON of good information. It's easy to weed out the areas that would need a car.

"Downtown" is downtown to us. North of Downtown is Belltown & South Lake Union. South of Downtown is ID. East is Capitol Hill. West is water.

2 Day trip in Seattle (July 11-12)

It's a crab roll at Chippys and it's not overly great.
