Kids and Allergies - long and a bit of a rant.

Our preschool, kids aged 3-5, has a blanket ban on nuts and has sent a letter home stating if your child has any allergy to food above and beyond nuts then you/they need to provided their own snacks and/or lunch (depending on the grade). I think this is reasonable. One girl has an allergy to strawberries and even at age 3 won't eat pink/red fruit. Knowing that, on our snack day I'm not going to send pink fruit, maybe blueberries instead but that's just being nice. At least I'm not being forced to.

Marination Ma Kai for a Sunday lunch?

It's a foot ferry and there isn't really anything else right around where the ferry lets out and Marination there. a 30 minute + walk around the tip of Alki will get you to the rest of the Alki area. The views are great.

Another option is to take the ferry to Bainbridge (great views of the skyline to and from) and eat at Hitchcock Deli or the like there in Bainbridge.

The best place to find... In Seattle

2. Does Kidd Valley still have the blackberry shake? They usually have seasonal ones.

3. Confectionery in U Village.

5. Krispy Kreme is gross. At least take it up a rung and go to Top Pot (downtown or Queen Anne)

6. What the eff is an icing shot?

Honestly with 99 closed this weekend starting Friday at 10pm through the following Wednesday it's going to impact traffic coming and going through the city. Combine that with Mariner's traffic I would seriously consider sticking close to Lark and not killing time on the Eastside and having to deal with the traffic. One accident on I5 and you're going to be in some seriously tough traffic.

I love happy hour at Daniels and I don't think that's a popular answer either ;)

1st time in Seattle, need (mostly restaurant) suggestions that are in walking/easy public transit distance from our hotel

Read this thread. A TON of good information. It's easy to weed out the areas that would need a car.

"Downtown" is downtown to us. North of Downtown is Belltown & South Lake Union. South of Downtown is ID. East is Capitol Hill. West is water.

It's a crab roll at Chippys and it's not overly great.

Not surprised. Lloyd Martin here on Queen Anne has done the market dinner also and the time we went it wasn't so hot.

3 days in Seattle, first time, need help to please foodie husband!

Try a dinner at RockCreek (Fremont) or Westward (Northlake) for really good seafood. Daniels on Lake Union also has a good happy hour if you wanted to do a light dinner or a late dinner after HH one night.

What are the must-have desserts in the Seattle area?

I like the Panna Cotta at the Fremont Via Tribunali. It's consistently good.

Molly Moon's #6 in the WORLD

Molly Moon's uses a prefabricated base. I think it's from Snoqualmie Ice Cream. Makes sense since I'm not a fan of Snoqualmie or MM and to me they taste a lot alike.

Chicago Foodies in Seattle--Bday Dinner?

If you did a late dinner to watch the fireworks I'd say call up Westward and see if you can get a reservation.

Toulouse, Laredo or maybe Crow?

If you want to come to the top of Queen Anne Hill (steep, but you could take a cab one way) there's How to Cook a Wolf or Via Tribunali.

Seattle Trip Recommendations

Or Hitchcock Deli. We had some of their sandwiches last time we were over on the Island and they were yummy. Outdoor seating with overhead heaters were nice also.

Well we went last night and walked away a little disappointed. We ordered the crab louie, and order of fries and a "flight" of their dipping sauces.

Both of our crab louie's had a lot of cartilage left on the meat as though it was (obviously) not cleaned well. For $17 the salad was on the small(er) side and 1/4 of the plate was tomatoes. Overall good flavor though.

Fries were good. Thicker cut.

The flight of sauces were all fine, 5 in all (remoulade, spicy mayo, tartar, cocktail and malt vinegar mayo) but besides the 4 non-cocktail ones honestly all tasted VERY similar and none of them had a kick or any real standout flavors. Remoulade was our favorite though.

Glad we tried it out but doubt we'll be back.

Good to know! We're heading there tomorrow night just because of the crab roll. Did you just find the roll falling apart or too hard?
