2014 Food Truck Schedule for Boston released

SImilar to my feelings about the pulled pork slider I had. And they were also out of ribs 2 days ago, by 12:30. Interestingly, based on what you posted they dropped their prices from 2 days ago. Sammies were 8.99 and a meal 10.49 . I'll give it another shot, because I don't want to base anything from one try. Redbones truck does a much better job.

Hey OIive, thanks for the nice words on hubfoodtrucks.com . Now that I've switched over to Wordpress, the content should be a lot cleaner and lots of new goodies. Ideas always welcomed from the community.

"No seating incomplete parties" rule [moved from Boston board]

I think one of the issues is that restaurants handle this differently, some seat, some do not. If a restaurant does not seat until a full party is there, that should be known and made clear ahead of time.

Food trucks in the hinterlands

If anyone knows some reliable schedules for trucks outside the Boston area, please email them to me steve at hubfoodtrucks.com, so I can add that to the master schedule I "try" and maintain. The more the merrier!

You know these things are edited heavily, all reality shows actually, so don't go by what you see.

Food Truck Throwdown

I had the tacos from Big D's... 3 for $8 and was fine with them. I had one of each - bulgogi, ginger chicken, spicy chicken. I'd like spicy to kick my ass, but that's me. Perfectly fine. The chicken leg over rice didn't appeal to me much, so I moved along. Plenty of other more interesting eats to be found.

Hey Joe, what did you eat that you thought was disgusting? Just curious. I had plenty of things I liked lots - waffle, empanada, Roxy's, Cookie Monster, tacos from Big D's.

My daughter has had Wafel & Dinges also, and raved about it. Can't wait to get there.

Food Truck Festivals do the ticket selling. This idea came from, I believe Sara Ross of Kickass Cupcakes and the Boston Food Truck Alliance. Should be regular menus for all. I'm already hungry :)

Yes you can. There will be a judging panel, but we get to eat. They don't make money if we only stare :)

I'm with you on this. Great idea to promote food trucks and have a chance to sample trucks from the Evil Empire ;) . In food we unite though.

Channel 5 News: Dave Andelman complains about food trucks hurting brick-and-mortar restaurant business

I have an email i to Edith Murnane, Director of Food Initiative for the city to ask if there has been any verified violations by licensed food trucks. In addition to MC's challenge for any photo evidence of trucks going gypsy, I think it will slam the door shut on this contention. When the Dave Andelman says something ridiculous like this 1000 ft protection, which would eliminate the program in Boston, you know he's jumped the shark. I'm behind innovative, creative small businesses.

If you accept that the food trucks have no competitive advantage overall, versus a B&M, the the discussion ends. It then becomes one of a myriad of factors that determines whether your business, stationary or mobile, survives.

That's very cool about Vegas strEATs. San Fran has a similar thing called Off the Grid. It's important for people to push back against the Andelmans. I think the Boston Food Truck Association needs to lead that charge. I think from the city of Boston's perspective, there is zero chance of scaling back the program. PG can take their "festivals" elsewhere.

Channel 5 News: Dave Andelman complains about food trucks hurting brick-and-mortar restaurant business

Thanks to MC for referring to this thread, I don't get here as often as I should. In the spirit of full disclosure, I maintain hubfoodtrucks.com , so you know where my sympathies are. Economies are always developing, new innovations always occuring. If you buy something online to avoid paying taxes on something you could buy local, especially at a mom and pop, thank you for conceding the moral high ground :). I'm not really dissing you, but rather, providing an example.

Food trucks are part of a new economy, and one of the reasons I support them is that I'm supporting small business. And a number of trucks have grown and provided jobs. I decide on a number of basis whether I am going to eat at a truck, factoring in many of the same things I do if another B&M was there. Do I like the food? Can I get it quick at lunchtime? Price? Line? Would I rather eat at a local biz versus the abundance of chains?

I have also felt that if a full service restaurant cannot compete with a truck that has about 6 menu items, they couldn't be that good in the first place. Food trucks are showing you can have quality food, often locally sourced, at competitive prices. Maybe the trucks believe in their product more than the B&M's? Would Al want to put his $6 sammie up against Bon Me?

I will almost guarantee no licensed truck in Boston goes rogue on where they are parked. No one is going to take the chance of being fined or having licenses pulled.

Innovation. Creativity. Economic opportunity. Good eats. The food truck culture is here and you can expect it to expand further, not get boxed in.

Worst of the Cape?

If there was a like button to your response, Cape Cod Guy, I would have. And one should remember you can get a clunker for even the best place and a pleasant surprise from something divey looking. We'll just report the news :)

Cape Cod 2010 - where to eat?

Sir Cricket's is much better than Cooke's. I had too many bad experiences at Cooke's to go back. And if you are in Orleans, see my post about BBQ, if you like that sort of thing.

Emack and Bolio's is also good ice cream in Orleans.

The Land Ho... pub food. I think the Chatham Squire is better for that sort of thing.

I like Grumpy's on 6A in Dennis for breakfasts.

BBQ in Orleans?

Well got my answer. Today and tomorrow they are out by the American Legion on Main St. in Orleans, where there is some sort of flea market going on also. They won't be around the next 2 weekends. Back at Eastham Town Commons on Father's Day weekend, then pretty much alternating between Eastham and the Masonic Lodge in Orleans. Eastham offered them free space, the Lodge raised their rental. Modified menu this weekend, no brisket. Nice lunch plate of 3 ribs, beans and cornbread for $6. Pulled pork and chicken is also available. You folks down on the Cape this weekend, check it out!

BBQ in Orleans?

I'm hoping that Surfin' Swine BBQ on Main St. in front of the Masonic Temple in Orleans is firing up their smokers again this season. If no one has heard anything either way, I'll follow up. Here's a review from Pigtrip- http://www.pigtrip.net/review-DrFrank... and their menu- http://www.pigtrip.net/Surfing_swine_... . Fingers crossed.

Northeastern U

Welcome to you all, from someone that works at NU. Charlie's Sandwich Shop down on Columbus Ave is not too far from campus, and is a great breakfast spot. I also second lunch @ Symphony Sushi.

New York Foodie Family in the Cape

You need to go to Sir Cricket's on Rt 6A for seafood, mostly take out, a few small tables. It's a little before you get to the Stop and Shop, coming from the center of Orleans. I second the Hole in One, a real donut place, and my daughter adores their home fries. And Friday-Sundays, you have to try this- http://www.pigtrip.net/review-DrFrank... , an oasis of good bbq on the Cape.

Suggestions for eating around Northeastern

While staying away from pasta, Woody's over on Hemenway has great pizza and some sammiches - http://www.menutopia.com/GetMenu.m?ve... . If you cross the Fenway, over to Boylston St., you have a few options also- Baseball Tavern, Burton's Grill off the top of my head.

Anyone try Quic Pic on Beach St yet?

I haven't seen many people when I have walked by there, but am always curious to know where good bbq can be found. Anyone try it yet? Thanks!

ISO Woodchips

Damn right ;). My daughter was just commenting to me how when it snows, the first path shoveled is to the grill. I've actually got wood chips at TJ Maxx in the past.

First Cape Cod Vacation Ever...And I'm Hungry!

Someone asked where Young's Fish Market is in Orleans and it is located right in Rock Harbor.

Challah from Savenor's

The Shaw's Supermarket in the Back Bay carries Cheryl Ann's also, for $4+, that's awful if anyone is charging $7. I've seen loaves and the challah rolls there.

Breakfast on the Cape with kids?

I second that emotion.

Cape Cod especially Chatham food recommendations (moved from Boston)

Saturday mornings on Old Colony Way, between Chocolate Sparrow and Willy's Gym, same side of the road.
