What were your FIRST three cookbooks? -"Personalidades En La Cocina" Mexican celebrities wrote this cook to raise funds for the 1985 earthquake. This was my first cookbook when I was about 7 or 8, I liked it mostly because of the illustrations by Jose Luis Cuevas. I learned to make mole, and many other things from this book. :( and I had another one I used a lot when I was 10, I learned how to make leavened bread, spaghetti, and cauliflower with anchovies... but I dont remember the name... I think it was a 70's yellow color with semi-hippy drawings |

soliciting shopping recommendations for upcoming semester in Germany I am wishing to stock up on good cookware. I came back to Canada after a school year in Germany and was sad about the price of "nice" cookware in Canada. The Euro and the Canadian dollar are not as far in value as they used to be, yet a Le Creuset or Staub will cost three times more than in Europe or even the US. I am going back to school in Germany for a semester and want to stock up (maybe go to France, if the variety is better). I will have a budget of 450 euros to buy cookware (I am ok with paying for a little extra luggage, since I usually travel very light). Could people recommend some good European (preferably German or French) brands? I've been researching online Woll titanium cookware, Fissler pots, and Friedrich Dick knives. My wish-list is: |

Where to buy a Japanese or Chinese knife for under $100 Did you buy your Moritaka in Vancouver? I see I can order them through a Toronto retailer, but I prefer to not shop online. |

How to clean or resurface an enamel griddle Holisticlady, I was also considering taking off the chipping enamel from a set of 1960's Japanese pots and pans. It seems like a waste to not try to reuse them. But I guess the others are right, its cheaper to buy new bare cast-iron cookware. I think I will take the chipping enamel ones to the recycling plant. |
