Westside Indian Food
If you are willing to go a bit further west, Akbar on Washington Blvd in Marina Del Rey is fantastic. I drove by it for years (used to live in the neighborhood) and finally went once when our friends chose the dinner location. It was so good, we went back 4 weekends in a row.
looking for nice deli/sandwich restaurant
City Bakery Catering does a really nice job. I have used them a number of times and the quality was always very good.
Main Street Santa Monica
Via Veneto is fantastic and such a great intimate setting. Chaya is always consistent and will please just about an diner.
Sushi downtown?
R-23 is downtown and it is very good. I have not been in a while and it was always on a company credit card, so I did not pay attention to the prices and cannot give any input on whether it is "student price friendly."
It is located at 923 E. 2nd St.
Cupcakes :: the Good, the Bad, & the Ugly...
I put my vote in for Yummy's in Burbank. By far better than Sprinkles. The cake is much more moist than Sprinkles. Sprinkles is just alright, but always seem to be a bit dry.
Your picks for Friday night cocktails/snacks?
I might suggest Katana. It has great cocktails, very hip crowds and everything is in small portions. The robata grilled meats are fantastic. I am pretty sure they have some vegetarian items, but try the filet wrapped asparagus.
Sushi in the valley
I still really like the original Katsu-ya in Studio City. I am not as crazy about the one in Encino and have not tried the Brentwood location, but the original is great. Be prepared to wait a good 30-60 minutes for a table.
Has anyone tried the new Ludo Bites at Breadbar?
I have been reading about the new Ludo Bites dinner at Breadbar on 3rd, but have not found any comments about the food yet? Has anyone tried it?
