I loved the old dons from Livingston; unfortunately this is not the same place. The burgers were small and nothing special, the menu was limited, and the broadway was not the same as it was from my youth. Overpriced and underwhelming.

I am looking for good fried chicken. I do not care if it comes from a gas station or a four star restaurant just really good fried chicken, anyone have any suggestions?

I have tried a few places in Newark which were good but far and hard to park. I have gone to Montclair’s Tapastry which was so oily it literally made me ill. I have gone to Bistro 18 in Montclair, which has specific tapas nights, the food was acceptable, but not worth another glance and limited.

I was very young when Don's closed, but still salivate when thinking of the Broadways, does anyone know if there is a connection, I would love to introduce it to my little nephew?

I am from NJ, I love the food, but there are some staples that it is hard to find.
During the summer, I live for LBIs Mustache Bills burgers; but when I am home and don't feel like cooking, it is actually quite difficult to find a decent burger. I am looking for greasy, gourmet, and just plain interesting. Any and all suggestions are welcomed!

I agree Lorena's is pretty good. I recently had a really good experience in Caldwell at Rose Mediterranean its BYOB and can get wine delivered from across the street, just please stay away from Montclair haunts Culinariane (which is not inventive) and Fascinos (which used to be good but went down hill). Scalini Fedeli in Chatham is BYOB during the week but will be rude if you are under 50 (they think anyone under 50 doesnt have money and doesnt know food)

I have tried a bunch of places in Montclair, the problem with those is that its often over-priced (like Culinariane), over-hyped (like Blu), or just bad (like Fascinos).

Tired of the same old mediocre and over-priced food, I tried Roses with my sister a couple of weeks ago. I got the Seared Quail with Chantrelles and Chorizo and the Steak Diane; both meats had a perfect char, flavorsome sauces, and flavors that built. My sister got the Moroccan Style Shrimp which finally was a break from the normal NJ foods; there was a smoky/sweet taste to the shrimp and the sauce was hot without being overpowering.

I'd suggest giving it one more shot, cant speak to your food, but mine was scrumptious

Angeloni's is hit or miss. There are certain peak times when they have people training; however, if the person taking your order (either on the phone or in person) knows what they are doing, the food is pretty spot-on. I have had two bad experiences and over a dozen good ones. If you are looking for good thin crust pizza and do not want to travel to Ah' Piz, then I recommend Angelonis
