Delray Beach and area restaurants

Quick report:

Farmer's Table - had brunch here and really liked it a lot. Great service and excellent food.

Park Tavern - had dinner here with the hubby. It was delicious. Highly recommend the beet salad, short-rib ravioli and Southern Godfather burger - all delicious. Do not recommend the fish tacos (neither did the server so I should have known better)!

Lemongrass - had take-out from the Boynton location. Very good.

Burger-Fi - great spot and so close to the beach. Good burgers and huge onion rings!

JB's on the beach - decent food here and a great location.

Deck 84 - nice view of the Intracoastal and pretty good food. Had the fish tacos, mahi mahi with lime, calamari, and lettuce wraps. All were great.

Scuola Vecchia - decent Neapolitan pizza but have had better in Toronto. Would rather go to Anthony's.

Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza - delicous pizza. I ate the equivalent of a whole small pie by myself. Yum! We tried the eggplant marino, the paul and young ron and the classic pepperoni and green pepper!

Sloan's ice-cream - had the banana, cookie dough cookie, and chocolate peanut-butter cup. So, so good! I wish we would have gone more than once!

Also, picked up some desserts at Flakowitz in Boynton... unfortunately they were out of their famous babka. Busy, busy spot!

Hope to get back to this area one day and try the tacos at El Camino and some other places.

"Farmer's Table is safe and I've had some good meals there, but it's about 15 minutes away in Boca and not really anything you can't get in downtown Delray."

What would you suggest as a kid friendly replacement?

Is Farmer's Table worth the drive? I thought people rave about the place?

Going to be in Delray beach for a week and wondering how my list is? Please let me know if I should take anything off the list, or add anything to it. We like Mexican, Thai, Sushi, new and trendy, tacos, seafood, steak, etc. Prefer reasonable prices (will probably have one or two meals with entrees around the $25 mark). Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks for the idea Charles!

Birthday dinner - help!

Thanks! Have you eaten at CF? What did you have? Looks interesting. Is it a new restaurant?

Patria might be a better choice when there are more than 2 of us for sharing purposes?

Birthday dinner - help!

Do you mean d bar? I don't see a charcuterie platter on the menu for CB?

It doesn't have to be that quiet I guess - just not a place with really loud music. Richmond Station noise level would be acceptable.

Birthday dinner - help!

Hello hounds!

I have been busy with baby and feel totally out of the loop with respect to the Toronto food scene! My birthday is coming up in a few months and I'd like some advice on where to go (it will likely be a Saturday night that we go out). I was originally thinking Jacob, but would rather go somewhere that has a great charcuterie platter. Looking for a restaurant with a nice atmosphere, not too busy, for a quiet dinner with the hubby. Keep in mind that I rarely get out for nice dinners now and want to be impressed by the food! Please help!

Thanks,

TF

Looking for a odd restaurant in Nova Scotia

It's not in the campground, but it is owned by the same people.

Looking for a odd restaurant in Nova Scotia

I think you are talking about the gift shop at the Look Off campgroud. It is on the other side of the street from where you stop to enjoy the view - http://www.valleytourism.ca/travel-di...

If that was the view, then that's the place!

Trip to Niagara Falls/Buffalo N.Y. what grocery items would you bring back?

Definitely go to Trader Joe's - everything is great! Coconut cookies (box is green), chocolate peanut-butter cups - AMAZING!, almond croissants (frozen section), bacon cheddar, carmelized onion dip... prepared salads - don't forget your cooler and get some ice!

Wegmans sodas are good - cherry grapefruit. Wegmans prepared foods section is also great. The store in Amherst - you'll be in Amherst for TJs anyways. You can also grab some horseradish cheddar at Wegmans. I forget the brand name - sorry!

Make sure to go with a list to TJs and an employee will be happy to help you find the items!

Make sure to eat a meal at Dinosaur BBQ downtown Buffalo - delicious! Bistro Europa is also GREAT!

Enjoy!

Trader Joe's YAY/NAY - May 2014 [old]

We got a cheap Black and Decker Rice cooker and it is amazing. Before that we could never get it right. Totally worth the money!

Your best reccomendation in Toronto

I was just saying that I wasn't that impressed considering the price. I wasn't recommending that the OP should replace it with a steakhouse.

Grocery items that you can't find in Toronto (but you can in the states)

California is great! Glad to hear you are able to get to TJ's sometimes!

Thanks prima - I will have to check it out next time I go. Have you seen the Trader Joe's threads in "chains"? Lots of suggestions there.

Your best reccomendation in Toronto

I ate at Scaramouche for the first and only time in February and was not that impressed. At that price point I would far prefer Jacob and Co.

I know lots of people who have enjoyed the pasta bar, though.

For anyone who does cross the border into the Buffalo area you should definitely make a trip to the Trader Joe's store in Amherst. I ended up going twice on my recent visit and they have many wonderful items at great prices!

Some great finds were: Cilantro Salad Dressing, Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups, Bacon Cheddar (with real bacon), Habanero sauce (my husband says it's great), Cowboy Bark, Caramelized Onion Dip, Spinach and Kale dip, almond croissants (freezer section), Root Beer (made with sugar cane) and also their prepared salads. All were TJ's own brand and prices were extremely reasonable. Staff in store were very helpful.

Your best reccomendation in Toronto

I would recommend Jacob and Co. and Richmond Station - my favourite meals in Toronto. I have also enjoyed Buca, Campagnolo, Ascari Enoteca, and Queen Margherita Pizza (my favourite pizza in the city).

Trader Joe's YAY/NAY - April 2014 [OLD]

YAY - Cilantro salad dressing (was with the lettuce at the Amerst, NY location) - was okay on salad, then my husband made a roasted corn and bean salad and put some on that and it was amazing!

MEH - TJs Chocolate Almond Granola - I had it like cereal, with milk, and maybe that was a mistake. Next time I'll try it in some vanilla yogourt.

Also tried the Spinach and Kale dip and thought it was pretty good. I really liked it with carrot sticks and TJs pita chips.

August Visit to Chicago - Itinerary and questions

We went for late-night pizza one night at Lou Malnati's (late-night for us was at 9:30)! We had their chocolate chip cookie for dessert and it was decent.

There isn't too much right in the area. Whatever you do, don't waste a meal at Hash House a GoGo. It's mainly breakfast I believe, but I think it's just one of those over-rated places. We did go to that bar that lets you see the city from a really high floor which was probably a ten minute walk from the hotel. Best views there were from the women's washroom!

Do-rite donuts were only okay - Glazed and Confused were the bomb! Had twice from there. OMG they were so delicious. I had creme brulee and the second time a maple bacon long john. Must get! Also ended up grabbing chicago mix from the airport and it was really good.

Hope you have a great trip. We enjoyed the hotel. We had to be shown how to turn on the shower if I remember properly!

Trader Joe's YAY/NAY - April 2014 [OLD]

Yay - bacon cheddar - had it on a burger and it was great.

Yay - almost croissants (freezer section) - took them out the night before and baked up nicely, although some of the filling oozed out on the pan (thank goodness it was on parchment paper)

Meh - chocolate croissant (really a "pain au chocolat") - not as flaky as the almond and flavour was not as good either.

Trader Joe's Opening in Amherst - 2013

Thanks magic!

Trader Joe's YAY/NAY - April 2014 [OLD]

Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups - there should be a category "above" YAY! They are so good. Perfect amount of both flavors, creamy inside... I know I can't get a new bag of them for a long time so they are being kept in the basement and that way they will last longer!
