Your best reccomendation in Toronto

I would recommend Jacob and Co. and Richmond Station - my favourite meals in Toronto. I have also enjoyed Buca, Campagnolo, Ascari Enoteca, and Queen Margherita Pizza (my favourite pizza in the city).

Trader Joe's YAY/NAY - April 2014

YAY - Cilantro salad dressing (was with the lettuce at the Amerst, NY location) - was okay on salad, then my husband made a roasted corn and bean salad and put some on that and it was amazing!

MEH - TJs Chocolate Almond Granola - I had it like cereal, with milk, and maybe that was a mistake. Next time I'll try it in some vanilla yogourt.

Also tried the Spinach and Kale dip and thought it was pretty good. I really liked it with carrot sticks and TJs pita chips.

August Visit to Chicago - Itinerary and questions

We went for late-night pizza one night at Lou Malnati's (late-night for us was at 9:30)! We had their chocolate chip cookie for dessert and it was decent.

There isn't too much right in the area. Whatever you do, don't waste a meal at Hash House a GoGo. It's mainly breakfast I believe, but I think it's just one of those over-rated places. We did go to that bar that lets you see the city from a really high floor which was probably a ten minute walk from the hotel. Best views there were from the women's washroom!

Do-rite donuts were only okay - Glazed and Confused were the bomb! Had twice from there. OMG they were so delicious. I had creme brulee and the second time a maple bacon long john. Must get! Also ended up grabbing chicago mix from the airport and it was really good.

Hope you have a great trip. We enjoyed the hotel. We had to be shown how to turn on the shower if I remember properly!

Trader Joe's YAY/NAY - April 2014

Yay - bacon cheddar - had it on a burger and it was great.

Yay - almost croissants (freezer section) - took them out the night before and baked up nicely, although some of the filling oozed out on the pan (thank goodness it was on parchment paper)

Meh - chocolate croissant (really a "pain au chocolat") - not as flaky as the almond and flavour was not as good either.

Trader Joe's YAY/NAY - April 2014

Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups - there should be a category "above" YAY! They are so good. Perfect amount of both flavors, creamy inside... I know I can't get a new bag of them for a long time so they are being kept in the basement and that way they will last longer!

Trader Joe's Opening in Amherst - 2013

I am hoping to make it back before baby arrives but that's probably not realistic so not sure when I'll get there again. Last night I tried a dark chocolate peanut butter cup from the package I got at Trader Joe's. They are in my pantry cupboard in the basement and if I want them to last they will have to stay there. So, so good!

Trader Joe's Opening in Amherst - 2013

I checked out the Trader Joe's a few weeks ago when I was in the Buffalo area. I actually made two visits. I was very impressed with selection, price and service.

Some things we tried and loved:

Caramelized Onion Dip
Truffle-Mushroom Triangoli
Speculoos Cookie butter (original and the one with chocolate)
Cowboy Bark
Santa Fe Salad (prepared foods section)
Thai peanut salad with chicken (prepared foods)
Habenero hot sauce (hubby tried and loved)
Trader Joe's Root Beer
Cilantro Salad Dressing

We still have more things to try. Will report later.

Which is the LOUDEST restaurant in TORONTO??

Thought the same thing about Grand Electric. I joked to my DCs that the waiters had to be trained in lip-reading!

Heading to Ottawa

For a really cool breakfast try Art Is In Bakery ( 250 City Centre Ave #112, Ottawa). Really great place with awesome food and definitely kid friendly.

Murray Street is a great restaurant but I cannot comment on the kid-friendly part - perhaps if you eat early it might be okay.

I don't even know where to start! 2 nights in Toronto

If you like Mexican, El Catrin in the distillery district has a really cool patio and pretty good food. Just don't order all the food at once because it comes out so fast.

Please help with my list!

Hi karendor!

Sorry for the late reply. Yes I follow the NOLA board as well and was there two Decembers ago.

I would recommend Mon Ami Gabi as you can eat on the patio and see the fountains of Bellagio across the street.

Also, my husband recommends:
1) Lotus of Siam - off the strip, amazing Thai food at decent prices.
2) Bouchon for breakfast/lunch - not cheap but really awesome food.
3) Earl of Sandwich - decent prices, not necessarily a foodie destination but good food can be found here.

Have fun!

Buffalo Area Restaurants - help me decide!

Quick report: We were in Buffalo during the crazy snowstorm so one of the three days was spent in the hotel.

What we did accomplish:

Shango (lunch) - shrimp po' boy and fried chicken sandwich. Both were delicious. Definitely recommend Shango for lunch.

Dinosaur BBQ - I had a pulled pork sandwich and he tried the three item platter of pulled pork, ribs and brisket. The sandwich was great and on the platter he liked the ribs the best. We had mac 'n cheese and corn for sides. I liked the corn better. He enjoyed both. The mac 'n cheese had a bit of a kick.

Trader Joe's (no it's not a restaurant but we picked up salads here the day before the storm to eat in the hotel room during the blizzard) - I had a Thai peanut slaw with chicken which was totally awesome and he had a Santa Fe which he really enjoyed. We also had some homemade salsa, nacho chips, spinach and kale dip, pita chips and Cowboy Bark from Trader Joe's. Everything was very good - the Cowboy Bark was so good that I bought two more bags of it the next day.

Wegman's Market Cafe (Amherst) - had lunch here on the last day - I had a fish fry and he had a muffaletta from the sandwich shop. It was great. What a great place to grab lunch! So much choice.

Also had a couple milkshakes from Anderson's - YUM!

I loved shopping at Trader Joe's - the store is not very big but it is packed with great items. I really liked that it had a neighborhood feel to it. Wegmans was also great for grocery items but the store is enormous! The donuts there did look good but I didn't end up getting any... next trip I guess.

Get your Burmese fix - Sun Restaurant in Buffalo

That would be so great to have the actual fermented tea leaves instead of having to make a version yourself! In San Francisco they would kill for those tea leaves!
