Actually, the last time I took my Mom, (a long time ago) the one in Glendale at least served chicken in the pot which wasn't bad. When I called the one in Torrance, they didn't even know what it was. And when I looked on the menu they had CHEESE BREAD!! And they served fried chicken with BUTTERMILK Batter!!!! OY.
I read some comments on New York Deli. It seems the best choice without traveling 20 miles. I never heard of Billys (except the awful one in Glendale). My Mom doesn't care about pastrami, so if New York Deli doesn't work, I'll make the drive to Canters. She loves the chicken/beef in a pot. And, whenever I go there I order their broiled salmon, which is superior. (surprising for a deli). Although it doesn't have fancy sauce or prep; it is fresh tasting and delicious. (It's as good as the salmon steak was at Musso and Frank's before they changed to filet of salmon). So, we always leave happy.
My Mom is moving from Florida and the only place she ever wants to eat is at Canters. She is 87 and no matter where I take her she never likes the food (although she did like the rack of lamb at Musso and Franks).
She will be moving near my sister in Torrance (PCH) near Palos Verdes. The only place I heard of that was passable was the New York(er?) Deli on Sepulveda.
Is there any other? Must have good chicken in the pot/matzoa ball soup, and good corn rye.
