Any great classic cocktail bars in Chicago?
Coming from New York and trying to see if your great city has any great bars serving old-school or exciting cocktails.
Places similar to Peju Club, Milk & Honey, Bemelman's, Flatiron Lounge here in NYC.
Also, any suggestions on where to see great live jazz appreciated.
Staying in South Loop if that helps (but we are certainly not confined to that area).
Thanks in advance.
Making liquor-soaked cherries for Manhattans
How do you do this? What's the best liquor to use? How long do they take to soak? How long do they last in the fridge? Can I make them without owning a glass jar (will tupperware work)?
Thanks to any and all help you can muster.
What great cocktails can be made with Hendrick's gin?
Just got a bottle and have only made very dry martinis with it using cucumber instead of an olive.
Any other suggestions greatly appreciated.
Stock the bar party
A Jack Rose is made with applejack, lime (or lemon) and a dash of grenadine.
Stock the bar party
Bring Pimm's and make some Pimm's cups. Big crowd pleaser.
Or cachaca for caiparinhas.
Or applejack for Jack Roses.
Lunch near the Flatiron building
I second Eisenberg's. Try the tuna salad...best in the city.
Best not crazy expensive sushi place in city?
Don't want to spend Sushi Yasuda, Gari or Nobu prices but looking for more of a Hatsuhana or Sushi Senin price range. Any suggestions? Are those two places great?
Don't want to go to UES or UWS and atmosphere is important.
Thanks.
Good indian food near times square?
Second Utsav. Good, albeit slightly pricey, for the area.
cocktails with maraschino liqueur?
Am I the only one who can't stand maraschino liqeur?
I make tons of classic cocktails and IMHO, it's completely ruined every drink I've ever had it in (i.e. Aviation, Brandy Crusta, Brooklyn, etc.). I just don't get it.
BTW, to the original poster, just type "maraschino liqeur" into this database and you'll find plenty of recipes:

best italian in little italy (the Bronx)?
Roberto's is the best by far but the prices may be a bit steeper then you're looking for. I've been to Dominics too which is a great red-sauce old-school, fun, very bright place but Roberto's is by far the class of the neighborhood.
Great post about Arthur Ave (the Little Italy section) here:

Why hasn't anyone mentioned the Dining Room at the Modern?
Tanqueray vs. Hendrick's Gin?
I know the obvious answer here is Hendricks. That said, I only use gin for mixing old school cocktails and gin and tonics.
So...is Hendricks too much gin for those purposes or would those things be that much better with the Hendricks?
Thanks.

Add Cafe Edison and Margon near Times Square...
Quickie: Are you supposed to refrigerate both dry and sweet vermouth?
And if I haven't and they've been sitiing out for 2 months do I need to throw them both away?

My informal taste test: Makers Mark vs. Old Overholt
For some reason last night I felt inclined to do a taste test between the two. Surprisingly, I preferred the Old Overholt rye over the Makers Mark bourbon. Although the Makers Mark had more obvious flavor, the rye was far smoother and I enjoyed its subtlety.
Anyone have any explanation/thoughts/other recommendations?
Any good cocktails I can make with Glen Moray scotch?
Got this as a gift and am not a big scotch drinker. Any suggestions?
What are your favorite bourbon/rye drinks to make at home?
Yeah, I'm with you both but I'm looking for other drinks since I already make and am a huge fan of the ones you've mentioned.
What are your favorite bourbon/rye drinks to make at home?
Looking to expand my horizons and get away from classic cocktails that involve lemon/lime/orange juice as I have been making a ton of those as of late (i.e. Ward Eights, Bourbon Squashes, Derby Cocktails, etc.)
Want to make/find more drinks in the vein of the Old Fashioned, Manhattan and Sazerac. I'm pretty well stocked bitters-wise if that helps.
Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Shawarma & Falafel Question
The best falafel in the city can be found at Azuri Cafe on the West Side.
