Update on Fuji Bakery

I just stopped by the ID outpost and got a chocolate croissant, just for research purposes, of course. I had never been to the original Fuji, so I can't compare, but the one I had was nothing special. There was nothing really wrong with it, but nothing really right with it, either.

I was actually hoping to find some good breads (my quest for walnut levain is what led me to this thread in the first place). Sadly, they only had two breads on hand--a white bread and a raisin bread (looked like white bread with raisins). I asked if they were going to have more and different breads, and the cashier said that she thought they'd have more at the end of the month.

Update on Fuji Bakery

I walked past Fuji in the ID today. There was much activity (sweeping, straightening, etc.) going on inside, and an "open" sign sitting on a table inside. Looks like it'll be soon. Of course, that doesn't say anything about the quality with a new baker.

Best Bread in Seattle?

Oops, I might have jumped the gun. Their website doesn't say anything about being closed (it has phone numbers, hours of operation, etc.,) but a colleague says they're not open yet. Stay tuned...

Randy, thanks! Since I posted this originally, I've switched jobs, and now work on the edge of the ID, 2 short blocks from Fuji. I'll be picking up some Walnut Levain today, and I'll try the croissants as well.

new Indian Restaurant coming soon to old Ezell's in Lynnwood

Rita, it was good. I love Indian food, but I don't consider myself an expert, so couldn't really say if it was good/excellent/outstanding. My wife and I ate off the buffet, and I was quite pleased with everything we ate. It seems pretty similar to Cafe India on 44th in Lynnwood, and much better than the Indian restaurant that used to be where Demetris is now by the ferry landing. (We haven't been to the new-ish Indian restaurant down by the water in Edmonds; friends of ours have said it's not good.)

We'll go back for dinner and order off the menu; that should give us a better picture of the food.

The place itself looks great, and it was packed at lunch time.

Jay, thanks for the suggestions. We took a family trip to Paris last spring and are on the hunt for the best croissant in Seattle. My wife and I tried to go to Besalu, but it was a Monday, and they were closed. The good news is we got to go to Tallgrass.

Thanks to everyone for the responses--I haven't actually followed up on many of these suggestions (though I did go to Tallgrass, and I agree--good, but not Acme good). Looking forward to continuing my exploration.

Excellent news!! I live close by as well, and as luck would have it I'm working from home today. I think my wife and I will go try it out for lunch.

I don't think that Ezell's used the space very well, so I'm hopeful that this place will do it better. The good news: I don't think there's room for the typical Indian lunch buffet, so they may have to rely on actually serving food off the menu! :)

I think I went there once, and it was fine. Nothing remarkable, but not awful either. It was owned by the same family that owns one in a food court in downtown Seattle (Columbia Tower, I think).

Best Bread in Seattle?

Christy, thanks... I'd love to find a good walnut levain, but any bread tips in general are much appreciated. Our other issue is that we lived in Oakland (plenty of access to bakeries, etc.) in CA, but we live in Edmonds now.

Best Bread in Seattle?

Hi all,

I moved here from Oakland CA several years ago and I have yet to find a bread as good as the walnut levain at Acme Bakery. Anyone have any suggestions? A quick search of the board didn't turn anything up.

Thanks!

I live about 1/2 mile away and can't wait till it opens, though I'm trying to temper my expectations.
